I know you can have lots of jobs but what are you playing the most/what one is getting the best gear first etc?
You will 90 percent find me as MCH or BTN :)

BRD for life here. Started as an archer and will remain a BRD for as long as I shall play the game. I've stuck with the class through thick and thin and will continue to do so no matter what. I'm also probably among the minority who actually liked HW's bowmage :P BRD is the class that I enjoy the most and play the best. I don't think I'll ever find another class in an MMO that I'll like more than FF14's BRD. I really like not being a pure DPS and being a bit of a support class too (though the class' utility isn't as big as it once was).
White mage main since 2.0, got to live through the glory days, then being overshadowed for 2 expacs to B L O O D F O R T H E B L O O D L I L Y. Dislike the healing changes and having my skills ripped from me for role actions but I still like my job.
Current plan for gearing priority: healer (first pass mostly done) > tank > caster > ranged physical > melee
What I play most depends on what I'm doing. For DF I'm almost always a healer, sometimes a tank for dungeons. For one-healer duties or if I have a friend as co-healer I play WHM, but if I have an unknown co-healer I pick AST because I can then choose shields or hots depending on what my co-healer is. Sometimes, if I'm playing with a healer friend and it looks like the queue for double heals is too slow, I go RDM or SMN. I don't trust randoms to not be idiots so having a backup raise is good.
For soloing things like treasure maps, hunts or fates I pick a dps class based on my mood and how fast I expect things to die. SMN and MCH have fairly long rotations so they can feel unsatisfying for maps or hunts. RDM and BLM are sort of middle ground, with some charge-up required for the big attacks but usually able to pull them off. DNC and NIN are good if I just want to kill something really quickly thanks to most big things being available off the bat.
If I want to gather and craft something I obviously use the classes required by the recipes. I mostly do that when myself or a friend has need for a piece of gear or furniture. The MB is unstable enough that I usually don't bother outside of special circumstance like just after the release of a new set of crafted gear.
For now pally but im boored of it so im upping sch/smn and war to switch to to see if they can get me more focused while i think of the theme for gnb on my character before i go to it.
I'm a BRD main, and have been since I started the game, though I ran through all of ShB as DNC. I really enjoy the utility of being both offense and support as a ranged physical, and DNC allowed me incredible mobility while I was getting the hang of all those crazy mechanics in ShB LOL (this being my first mmo and my first PC game with mouse/keyboard combined to create a steep learning curve). I recently switched back to BRD as my main because I've always loved archer aesthetic and the rotation for BRD is a little more complex than DNC, which makes it more fun for me. That's not to say I don't still love DNC and still play it, but you know what they say about your first love lol. So for story, I always go through as my main, and for that reason it always gets my highest priority gear-wise.
Group play content, I alternate between playing as main, healing as AST, and tanking as GNB or occasionally DRK, depending on what my group wants to run as. I tend to gear them up as simultaneously as I can. Then casters, so that I can be a rez mage if needed. I've got all my crafters and gatherers at 80 and max level gear for the moment, so I can pretty much make myself whatever gear or furniture I want or my FC mates want or need.
I don't play melee, period. I've been working on leveling them up through beast tribes and WT so that I can get the achievements and the Amaro mount, but that's it. I don't play them at all in group play, because I really dislike the playstyle and the aesthetic. It's just not for me.
RDM for me. I like casters. I like how it has multiple utilities: Emergency Raise, emergency heal, as well as dps. And out of all the casters it actually has alot of mobility, double that of other casters basically. Still like the rdm of ffxi better. Had the ability to enfeeble, buff, and tank as well. But that game design actually supported that.
Was main healer at the start of this expansion but I really hate the healer changes and the healer DPS > Everything mentality that fflogs and the balance discord has pushed on the endgame community has made party finder toxic to coheal in. It has devolved into only using off cast time heals, keeping up 1 dot, and 1 button spam. Just not fun at all. And I love party finder when your co-healer does not heal because they have no insta cast left and casting a normal heal is a dps loss. Healers just need a complete redesign, and the community needs to shut off the parsers in prog groups.... (Or SE needs to actually find a way to stop ppl from using them). They are actually making progression slower.
Tanks I mess around on, enjoy playing them. Just too many people in my group that main tank.
Once upon a time, back in HW, BRD received a blessing and a curse known as The Wanderer's Minuet (the old version, not the one we know now). This skill allowed BRDs around Eorzea to increase their damage, but they had to sacrifice their mobility for it. Our kind came to be known as bowmages since we turned into casters, though our cast time wasn't as long as magic casters. I personally liked this phase of the class' evolution. It added an extra layer of challenge that I enjoyed. We could get our mobility back by dropping Wanderer's Minuet, and this allowed for some interesting stance dancing.
Oh, and I remember we had some skills that could only be used when Wanderer's Minuet was up.
WHM since 2014 and BRD secondary. I didn't care for the bowmage but since I had the casting habits from WHM it also didn't affect me too much. I was happy to see it go back to the original, though.
I'm a weirdo. My true main job is neither the best geared, or the most played. There is a reason for that though. It's SCH, and because it's a healer I don't prioritize gear upgrades over my SAM. They're always close in ilv, but SAM will edge it out when it comes to prioritizing who gets BiS and melds because I like to cause as much damage as possible with the blade. It could be flawed thinking, but the way I see things is that is stronger heals doesn't equate to faster kills. While I still do want my broils to do maximum damage, the nature of healing has me contribute a certain portion of the encounter to heals and shields; while on SAM it's is just go damage go, and that is why it takes priority despite being a job I picked up late in SB.
Relevant EX is the most difficult content I will step into, and I will always go as SCH first for these encounters as it is and always will be the job I am the most comfortable and confident playing. That is why it is my main, but it would also be wrong for me to say that SAM is not my main.
RDM for me. It's not complicated but it has such a nice tactile flow and a run risk/reward with the balance of when to use ranged/melee/buffs/resources. I also love the class gear esthetic. It's also a great rush to be that clutch emergency healer when everything starts to fall apart and you alone bring things back from a guaranteed wipe.
SAM is a close second but it's a job I really need to feel into while playing and stay practiced on. Coming back to SAM after even a short time away feels terrible but when I'm in the flow of it, it's amazing.
Gunbreaker, because I waited since ARR launch for a gunblade job. We were told back then that it would probably become a thing once we got closer to the Empire. So...Gunbreaker for life now.
Warrior now and foreva'!
99% of the time as Paladin...prior to that Paladin in WOW...prior to that Paladin in Rift...prior to that Templar in Aion....you get the drift?
I'm a sucker for doing the story as trailer jobs and Dark Knight is no exception. Good thing, too, because hot damn is DRK a fun tank to play around with.
I don't know why, but I can't get into any other tanking class. Maybe it has to do with DRK's mana & resource bar management, even if it is pretty straightforward. I realise Paladin has those elements too, but Paladin was the worst thing to play at low levels and that turned me off the job entirely. DRK, meanwhile, clicked with me right as I picked it up. Secondarily I like to dabble in a bit of freestyle SAM. The masterless frog must find his own way.
Oh and a major part of why DRK clicked is also its job story being hella great. That level 80 catch-up quest hit me right where it needed to, alright.
SMN main since 2.4, even though I started as a CNJ/WHM back in 2.0/2/1 or so.
And that won't ever change, that's how committed I am to it.
On a side, I really, really wish for more (proper) Egis to be implemented in the near future...
Ninja. The job that attracted me to this game in the first place, and the only job that I need.
I call my self DRK main since the job was added and being first sight love from HW to SB but since in SHB decided to delete the job and give us Dark Warrior instead and no longer being able to play my fav job i guess im a GNB main since is the least boring tank for me right now but i preffer say i don't main anything anymore and im just GNB bcs my raid friends needs a tank.
Supposed to be Dancer, but with the amount of time I spend on tanks doing the achievements(only 142 left on Gunbreaker, then all of them are done...for now) it might as well be a tank.
Though, if I had to decide on a main for each role:
Gunbreaker
White Mage
Dancer
BLM for life. Always BLM. no other class, (Ice) BLM For life!
I switch every so often to help keep the game fresh. Lately, I've been going between summoner, monk, and gunbreaker, depending on my mood.
Each expac I'm trying to focus on a different role.
Right now I'm tanking, and my faves are by far DRK and PLD... though I've also been learning and loving BLM so we'll see where that goes haha.
For this expansion, WHM and thats only because I find the job cute lol
DRK, because I enjoy tanking and the Job's aesthetics, with a side of SAM and DNC due to enjoying their combat loops more than any other Job.
It was white mage; but, after several expansions of playing, I was bored with the job.
Plus, it seems the player base has gotten nastier toward healers in general. ((I blame refugees from WoW for this.))
Now, I'm focusing on red mage.
1. Bicyclist.
2. Track Star
3. Dorito Baiter
My mains change with each expac it seems...
1.x brd
2.x blm
3.x smn
4.x rdm
5.x dnc
Astro is my main hands down, it's the class I'm most comfortable with and the one I've spent the most time on by a mile.
I started playing when shadowbringers was already a few months old so I have next to no idea what it was like before, but in its current state I just find it so engaging to play.
The class massively rewards foresight while still having ways to fix your mistakes, the whole stars and space theme is right up my alley, and the sheer power and versatility it brings to the table is truly remarkable with its shields, regen and dmg boosts.
I've mained MCH since HW. I do wish I had Lead Shot back and that Wildfire packed a bigger punch then it does, but overall I enjoy it. The other roles, I play mostly DRK and AST.
RDM.
I'm thinking of shifting over to DRK, though. I really like that 'Dark Souls' armour added recently...
I wish I could say that I truly have a main. For now, it's Summoner, because I wanted to get back into Savage this tier for the two part fight and the glams. I'm one of those weirdos that picks up jobs easily, and I can perform them at a high degree.
2.0: I started as MRD, but picked up LNC. At 50 I raided for the first time in this game on DRG. I cleared Twintania for the first time as DRG. I also raided regularly on WAR though, and did do Twintania clears on it after 2.1. Bouncing between these two jobs a lot, but over time I picked up SCH, PLD, MNK, SMN, WHM, and NIN, taking them all to raid at some point. The only jobs in 2.0 that I did not take to 50 were BRD and BLM.
3.0: I got locked in pretty hard as a WAR main in my more dedicated raid static, and we went as far as beating Gordias Savage 3 - Arm of the Father, while it was current. I still raided on DRG in a less dedicated static on a second character, so that I could keep it as geared as my WAR. But I was still desperately in love with everything else I deigned to play. By the end of Heavensward I had leveled everything to 60, and though I was very tsundere towards them, I even loved BRD and BLM. I started PUGing extremes on Healers during this time too. Also started falling madly in love with DRK, despite its deficiencies compared to WAR.
4.0: I went DRK main for my raid static, due to the 4.0 WAR changes. My other character had no static, so at first I PUG'd Savage on SAM. I went as far as getting i340 SAM from PUGs, and then my friend asked me to join his morning static as a NIN, since I had it leveled. I told him I'd prefer to stay SAM, but they already had a SAM, so I relented and went NIN. I got to go SAM a few times when they were out, and I'd usually perform better than them. Which kinda made me salty in way, since they were a major parse hound. I also raided on MCH some. I also did a crap load of POTD solo attempts on RDM, getting as deep as floor 176, but just never lucking out with floor arrangement/pomander stock/mimics etc. Also took up SCH and AST on another data center and did Savage raiding on them during all three tiers.
5.0: My main stayed DRK for one character, and I had my other character gravitate towards SMN after seeing the Phoenix in the job trailers prior to Shadowbringers launch. I did the story on these jobs, and I wanted to raid on SMN, but my static leader shut me down again, insisting that I play melee. So I took Monk up to 80 really quick, and got to experience learning the Anatman opener. I raided up to Titan Savage with both DRK and MNK, and after 10 or so clears on each character, went on a raiding hiatus for my GF. Since then, the only thing I haven't gotten to 80 on, on at least one character, is Dancer.
I guess at the heart of things though, I always gear a Tank at least as a secondary, because my friends expect me to, and I wind up in the role of tank more often than not. Tanks aren't so different now though, so they're all pretty cheesey easy. I prefer PLD for the first time ever, due to the Requiescat phase usually lining(or me forcing it to line up) with portions of fights where I have to disengage. I still love WAR, and I still love DRK, and GNB is really fun, but PLD feels the best to me.
Samurai for me yes yes.
For me its Dancer. I was a Main Dancer in Final Fantasy XI and was just waiting for it to be released in XIV to finally get back to it. Eben when its nothing like its XI Version.
BRD due to being familiar(thanks to other mmorpgs) with classes that use a priority system for rotation.
Machinist. All through Stormblood I dreamt about MCH being revamped to look like Edgar from FF6 - an actual machinist - and less like an over-the-top gunner. I jawdropped when I actually saw the ShB job preview and my wish was granted! I hope we get to see more tools like the Noise Blaster in the future.
The job is still flawed, mechanically, though. Wildfire still punishes people without perfect latency, Flamethrower being nearly useless due to its usability. Other than that, I'm fine with the rotational 1-2-3 combos being more focused on the gunner aspect BUT I wish the animations could be toned down because they are way too flashy and busy for rotational skills. How exactly acrobatics help with anything regarding aiming a shot lol.
I play WHM and AST equally, with a bit of DNC and PLD when I'm bored.
I've been a Paladin main since I started, and I always will be. I feel lucky that I happened to find a job that clicked with me perfectly on the first try.
