Is there any word of 14 getting or having content tied to this game? An old favorite of mine from the PS1 days and I wish it got a little more love.
Edit: The only thing I know of is the Tantalus garb but is there anything beyond this?

There is an Ozma mount. I'm not sure of others. (Perhaps a minion that is a semi-reference to Vivi, or to classic BLM)
I forgot about Ozma as well lol
Thanks for reminding me, but even with that, given 9's whole look is giving it an Alliance Raid or a fight in a normal Raid too much to ask?
Well, FFXIV isn't over yet, so there's still time if they want to.
Oh, and there's been some FFIX music, like the one used for Dancer. There's probably been orchestrion rolls for those.
Blue Mages should get Quina’s fork as a Rod...
We've had FF9 references quite a bit. Ozma, his mount, the Prima Vista as part of the 4.x Alliance Raids, I Want to be Your Canary listed as a well known play, etc. But I admit as much as I dislike FF9 (design choices mostly), I wouldn't mind seeing more references to it. Or maybe even the Chocobo Hot and Cold minigame?
Cruise Chaser from Alexander: Heart of the Creator is basically an updated version of FF9's Ark summon. Which was itself an homage to an old Square game named Cruise Chaser Blassty.
Zidane outfit.
Ozma mount.
Cruise chaser.
Vivi minion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYFm...ature=youtu.be - This will have other stuff too, but they have a series for all the references/easter eggs to past FF games.
I want some FF4 stuff before any others. One of my favorites, and FF14 is severely lacking in content pulled from it. I hope we'll get something with the next expansion at least, since we're getting closer to going after the Ascian home base. Fights against the elemental lords especially could be really amazing.
Really, FFXIV itself is just like FFIX in that both were specifically developed to be fond call-backs to the rest of the FF series, which is ironically probably why there are much fewer actual FFIX references in FFXIV - the game is already drawing on the same shared history as IX did.
As for a FFIX reference no one has mentioned yet, the Zaghnol that Zidane faced during the Festival of the Hunt in FFIX shows up as a possible Wanted target during Temple Battlecraft levequests in Coerthas Western Highlands as well.
I'm still hoping for Garnet's princess gown as glamour in the future though. :D
Zodiark is basically Necron, from what we've seen of his statues, so that would be a FFIX reference too. (although Necron himself was based off the Necrophobe boss from FFV).
Also, the entire HW Hildebrand storylne featuring Gigi is basically a retelling of Vivi's story in the FFXIV world, complete with characters named after Quan and Quale.
The main theme to Weeping City is actually a low key version of the FFIX battle theme as well.
Oh, and Alexander's angel wings are a reference to his appearance in FFIX too.
Yeah IX is one of the best. Wouldn’t mind a crossover but they only seem to do for that for currentish games.
Also we have music in the Dnc questline that is from FFIX.
Surprisingly FFIX has more representation than both FFIV and FFX (I say this due to popularity and sales figures)in this game at this point of posting.
5.4 spoiler you are warned
Though with newest MSQ looking to be a few FFIV re-releases entities showing up in name, making FFII as the least represented numbered final fantasy in FFXIV having only 1 outfit and a password used in ARR msq.
And FFII's normal battle theme Battle I by Nobuo Uematsu remixed (called 'Battle 1.X' by Masayoshi Soken on the FFXIV ARR OST album) that shows up during numerous times throughout the game.
I like to think of the Garlean Empire's Agrius-class airships as references to the Dreadnought as well (especially as the Agrius and it's ilk like the Gration are called 'dreadnoughts'), and thus another FFII reference.
Story spoilers?
The main theme of Shb so far have been about memories, which was also the concluding theme of FFIX
If Final Fantasy XIV will be getting Final Fantasy IX content in a similar scale to the Final Fantasy XII content then it would be great to have its writer join in as a guest creator.
Since Yasumi Matsuno joined as the guest scenario writer for "Return to Ivalice" and Yoko Taro joined as the guest scenario writer for "YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse" then it'd be amazing if Yoshi-P can somehow get Hironobu Sakaguchi as the guest scenario writer for a Final Fantasy IX collaboration.
Hironobu Sakaguchi was the creator of the Final Fantasy series and Final Fantasy IX was the closest to his ideal view of what Final Fantasy should be, as well as his swan song Final Fantasy game before passing the torch to the next generation. It would be interesting to see how a Final Fantasy IX collab would be with Sakaguchi involved.
There's also a few locales that could be considered as references to areas in IX. Snowcloak could be considered a loose reference to the Ice Caves at the beginning of IX.
Spoiler:
The beginning area to Matoya's Relict; the first chamber you load into, can also be a reference to Daguerreo, the library type city late into the game.
The Mhachi raid series has quite a lot from IX.
Firstly the whole weaponising an army of black mages is an allusion to the black mage army in IX, with several parallels between Mhach and Terra.
The whole airship/sky-pirate thing, although similar to XII, is actually more closely related to Tantalus.
Void Ark's design is quite similar to Pandemonium on Terra.
The Mhachi's teleport pads are similar to the Terran teleports.
The theme for Weeping City includes part of the IX battle theme.
The 'Weeping City' itself being an allusion to Burmecia.
You fight Ozma near the end.
And then the Nullstone that the raid is based around with you obtaining it inadvertently for Diablos, is similar in concept to the Gulug Stone that Kuja tasks you with finding in Oeilvert. Both magically sealed away by the former civilisation.
Dun Scaith features Deathgaze which featured in IX and the 3rd to last boss.
Again, an airship assault in the same style as the airships from IX.
The city of Dun Scaith itself draws some design parallels with Kuja's desert palace.
None of it is too direct, but it's kinda similar to the Eden raids and VIII, with how Fatebreaker is a parallel to Griever, with the theme of Gaia losing her memories, etc.
I want to say during the 1st year of ARR they had Shantotto (sp) pop a visit in an event. That was a fun event. Too bad they didn't bring that one back this year but I suspect they did not because they made the reward available on mog station.
But they also did have the maiden of rhapsody event again this past summer as well which brought Iroha from FFXI as well. I like that one because they had the battle music from FFXI.
Shadows of Mhach alliance raid series contains nods to IX. Sky Pirates, Ozma as a boss, the first boss of the last raid takes place on an airship. The music for Weeping City and Dun Scaith use the FFIX battle theme as the main melody in their songs.
Hildibrand's HW storyline is all about him working with a mammet named Gigi who he considers his son, similar to Vivi from IX.
Cruise Chaser is a big one too with the same model as Arc, and is usually seen very often in TEA due to Limit Cut prog lmao.
I'd personally love to see more tied into IV, IX, and XIII raidwise as I think there could be some very cool ideas from each of them.
I noticed that no one has mentioned the Prima Vista from the Ivalice Raids. And what about the NPC Mikoto from the Ivalice Raids and Bozja. She's a reference to Zidane and Kuja's sister.
As others mentioned, the HW Hildebrand story is retelling Vivi's personal story in IX as a mammet named Vivi created by a Sharlayan named Quan, complete with bittersweet resolution. Hildebrand adopts him as his "son" and names him Gigi because Vivi has forgotten his past.
Each expansion has its themes if noone has figured this out and especially lately. All the weapons from FF7, Eden raid literally is based on FF8 and then the last expansion had all FF6 content even fighting Kefka.
The entire job and class system is from FF5 so it makes since that when they go FF9 they are going to go in pretty hard. My guess is they are waiting for some summoning based expansion since FF9 was really big on that or maybe next expansion they might go full FF10
Aren't the jesters in Eulmore basically Zorn and Thorn from IX?
That's what I assumed - they wear similar attire, speak in rhyme and finish each other's sentences, and work for an equally morbidly obese, decadently corrupt monarch (and look like twins but actually aren't).
And yet they're first introduced with a music track from FFIV (Dancing Doll Calcabrina). But they're still clearly based on Zorn and Thorn.
I guess it all depends on what you consider "content". This game is sprinkled throughout with references to the entire FF series. But no there has been no crossover/collaboration event, nor something on the level of the return to ivalice stuff.
I would love to see some though.
Weeping City of Mhach has ff9 battle leitmotifs
Id rather have more ff10 stuff.. like blitzball and lulus/riku,Seyemore outfits... and a Anima primal fight' the magus sisters and Sin
Also shadowbringers has ff9 content. Zorn and thorn basicly exist lol
As long as they implement additional FF9 content like they did with the Weapons and the FF8 references in Eden, I'd be all for it.
If they just add an Omega-ish storyline to justify FF9 cameos....I'd rather not have it to be honest...
Also, they said that new content is coming to the Gold Saucer soon. A lot of us are still expecting Blitzball, but I am actually down for Tetra Master, even though I always preferred Triple triad! They could have the cards work in both games (just need each cards to have two sets of values, of course), and they could eventually make the 4 star cards useful for TM if they don't want us to use them in TT...
Honestly though, the thing I want the most from FF9 : the jump rope challenge! (that's a joke, this would be atrocious)
FFXI had Tetra Master. It wasn't popular.

So long as Kuja becomes a boss and is somehow connected to FFXIV Alexander. And we also get his hairstyle as a reward.
I guess they could reference/have yet to reference Conde Petit or however it was spelled. Not with Rally-Ho/Lali-Ho, but with the green people, and with having to get married to enter. This could satisfy some of the playerbase's urges to marry NPCs, by having a sham marriage of choice for entry.
I’m always disappointed with crossovers. Asides from the music, the ghost train, the FFXI quest, the painting boss and seeing Exdeath and Omega I’ve rarely thought ‘wow this is amazing’.
They don’t seem to ever go far enough for me and it just often seems like they do it purely for easy content. The Eden raid was billed as a FF8 raid but it felt like FF8 was an inconvenience for them and they wanted to tell their own story. No Squall, no ballroom, no Libere Fatale, No Ultimecia, no doomtrain or brothers, no SEED. Just the music and the Eden GF.
For instance if they did a FF7 one, they’d probably give you vs Sephiroth and have one place like a reactor core or something. But I’d want to see Barret and Yuffie and Vincent and save the planet.
Genome playable race? Genome playable race.
Midlanders with Viera faces and long tails.
I think OP what you are looking for are not references. But what you want is a Cross over event, something at the level of Lightning returns cross over or FF15 cross over, with events, cutscenes, fates, at the minimum. At the maximum, a raid like Ivalice.
Yes i totally support. FF 9 is one of my beloved FF series. I hope they can implement a dungeon that is FF9 inspired, something like Qu’s Marsh, complete with the song you know.
ozma fight gigi etc
would love to see some more ff vi and IX content myself. a raid a hairstyle clothes... oh god clothes. and hair.
Would be interesting if the capital of Garlemald resembled Lindblum, with all of the airships flying around, and central towers with airship docks inside them.
