Unlocking oddly specific materials.

A FC member who is fascinated by crafting but WAY behind on the MSQ can't buy oddly specific materials from the usual vendors.

There has to be an unlock involved but I have no idea where. MSQ? Crafting quests? (She is behind on those too due to MSQ unlocks.)

Any clues? Thanks.

i know at a minimum they're locked behind having access to Ishgard Restoration

That involves finishing 3.0. Once she learned about the restoration she did manage to finish that ....

But she can't buy the oddly mats.

I know for certain you need to have picked up the second Skysteel tool quest before the materials will appear on the vendor. You can't buy the materials with scrip in advance to have them ready before starting the quest.

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is maybe House of Splendors must also be unlocked since that's the other source besides the Restoration to buy the materials. Might want to check with her to see if she's done that if she rushed through the rest trying to get the Restoration unlocked.

Does she actually have at least one crafting class at Lv80 while not having access to any content beyond Lv60? That's fairly impressive. Not impossible by any means since you can buy mats from the MB and level using just the normal recipes, but takes a lot of gil and patience since you can't gather your own materials or get EXP rewards from quests of leves.

It's much easier than it should be, to be honest.

Prices for most crafting materials have crashed on the MB thanks to gathering bots and desynth changes. There are also all the ARR vendors that sell materials cheap (occasionally MB is cheaper) plus the Salvager in Idyllshire for HW materials (MB is usually though not always cheaper).

GC supply turn ins are 1-3 levels a day for HQ (depending on if you get an item in demand). ARR and HW leves. House of Splendors collectables. Restoration collectables if you've completed 3.3 MSQ. Not to mention the XP for simply crafting the items you're turning in.

All you need to do is craft extra items on the side to sell on the MB to cover the costs of the materials you're buying for leves and collectables. Going 70 to 80 will be a bit steep because those were the priciest Skybuilder materials last I checked but if you're turning in max tier items it's not that bad. Just craft some extra items on the side to sell to cover costs and make some profit.

She probably got all 80s crafting today but its even worse. She has a healer and a tank at 80 ...

It gets even worse. She didn't know about GC turnins until she was mostly 60s....

But she did push storyline to get into Diadem and the restoration. What hoop does she need to jump through to buy those materials? She can buy the base tools, its odd that she can't buy the materials.

Hard to say. Can she see all the scrip shop categories, up to Lv80? The materials don't seem to be untradeable, so maybe they might be found on the MB?

Answer: You have to start the quest that actually requires those DoH materials in order to be able to see them from the yellow-script vendors. There are 2 tiers, and both require that you start their respective quests to be able to see them.

I think I might have figured it out. It's going to be another issue of MSQ progression.

The items are listed under Yellow Crafter's Scrip Exchange (Lv. 70 Items) but I don't think that section of the vendors will unlock until she talks to Galiena in Rhalgr's Reach. She would need to continue doing the MSQ to that point, or rely on someone else to buy and trade the materials to her. They can be sold on the MB but I imagine if any are listed they are way overpriced. At least the materials for the Skysung stages can be purchased from Enie for Skybuilder Scrip. It's a shame they didn't do the same with the Dragonsung stage materials.

I understand how frustrating this is probably getting for her when all she wants to do is craft but then I think of how bad the crafting bot problem would be if they didn't also have to navigate through the MSQ hurdles to get access to the scrip rewards.
