The Developers have already given us fewer and fewer dungeons in each expansion.
If in an expansion or two, they announced they were reducing the extra jobs added to 1 or ultimately zero, would you keep playing?
Why or why not?

Why or why not?
I only main 1 or two jobs anyways and only care about the raids
Yes.
Why?
Cuz I don't have a lot going on in my life.
Sure, that means their efforts would go towards other things that would also be interesting right? Maybe I'd be put off if they said they weren't adding jobs to cut budget for things that have no relationship to FFXIV. I think FFXIV is underfunded and deserves more love from Square.
I actually have talked about this before, I would PREFER it and have them focus on existing jobs and features honestly
We don't need new jobs, we need the ones we have balanced and made into their own things instead of homogenized. New jobs are nice but not necessary if they would put some effort into fixing what is broke about the current ones.
As long as the writing's still good, sure.
Still dont understand why 1 less dungeon is such a big deal. Frankly I think we have been getting better dungeons because of it, also better loot.
Now...
Q---Would I keep playing if they stop adding new Jobs?
A---Yes.
Because maybe they might have an easier time balancing and making older jobs more fun if they stop making new ones after a while. Improve what we already have, people like to talk about improving and making older stuff like the Open World or past dungeons better, I want the same for our Jobs.
I still wanna see 1 or 2 new healers and maybe 1 more tank before they stop.
Yes. I see the bigger picture from the developer side and what they have to go through to make this game work.
Realistically, I am expecting it to happen eventually, sooner or later. Not only do they have to build an entirely new job to work up to the current level cap, they have to build new stuff for the already existing jobs as well when the level cap is raised.
Definitely not, it wouldn't bother me much at all.
However, I would expect the resources to go elsewhere. So far the scrapped dungeon and deep dungeon haven't actually been replaced with anything (Bozja is this expansions Eureka, not HoH) and if they added jobs to that list too I'd be rather unhappy if they didn't improve the current jobs in return. ShB feels like the devs have been working hard, but low budget and poor resource allocation has hit the amount and quality of content hard moving into the expansion.
I'm not sure why more jobs (or a lack thereof) would be a deal-breaker. The game is playable with the current jobs so we don't need more of them.
The overall content of the game will be the same whether we have 10 jobs or 50.
I will keep playing as long as the experience is good. Mainly the combination of great story, story presentation, content, and the awesome soundtrack.
The actual combat gameplay is decent, but not the reason why I play.
I'd keep playing as long as there was great story (I really love some of the open ended writing in FFXIV), good glamours to obtain, fun dungeons, positive & needed updates to character creator in the future & updates to current jobs, but there doesn't have to be updates to adding new jobs for me to keep playing. I only play AST & BLM as it is
It's less of a problem that there are (or not) new jobs. Having new ones is a nice gimmick for a bit, maybe even change your main, but you are still playing the same content. Rather, If they did decide to stop releasing jobs, I would expect them to start releasing more content - especially substantial content - in general to actually play and use the (then) completed roster. This is in a perfect world mind you. It would be a high expectation to have.
To answer the question, would I stop playing? Not necessarily.
I doubt not releasing more jobs would lead to more content. Rather, they'd most likely put the freed up resource into more work on the design of existing jobs and/or gears.
A big problem with this game is while this game has many things to play as, they all effectively do the same thing in relation to their role. Add some depth to our existing jobs, once they have rounded out the roster to their liking. Though, even that I think is wishful thinking. I wouldn't mind this route though either.
In general, whether they are releasing new jobs or not I still would like to see more content added more often either way.
To add, I fear we are losing more depth as we go, and I wouldn't be surprised that's what happens during the next expansion.
Yes if they manage to justify the loss. Just doing less and less is not going to win any awards from me though. Like if they decide no new jobs and one less dungeon and overall no greater / more intricate additions in its stead I wouldn't be particularly impressed. Can't say if that means I'd buy the expansion or not, I tend to like to try things and give benefit of the doubt but if SE repeatedly confirmed "we are going to try and find the bare minimum" in the end I'd certainly take steps away from the game and the company. To be clear I'm not accusing them of that- we are speaking hypothetically.
However there are still a few job concepts I'd like to see SE try.
As long as each job is fun, I don't really care.
Would depend on When they would stop. I would prefer if they make sure there are as equal amount of jobs per role as possible, (meaning at least 1 more healer) and I expect that if they do only 1 or tow more job there there might be other changes as a result.
With that said if IR is gonna be the end of new dyes then I'd like to see the end of new jobs before I run out of good colors to use :P
- Role itemization going forward might be simplified for Melee jobs as Maiming and Scouting still have one each. As such I cans ee them being folded into Slaying or Scouting be folded into Aiming and the other two melees be Slaying, with some homogenization considering that DRG's niche is higher resistance and a more knightly aesthetic compared to the other melees. That would leave a 4 Job split for Slaying if all melee were folded in, or a 3/4 split with Slaying and Aiming if NIN folds into the latter. The devs tend to intoduce new jobs in pairs so if the next pair is the last, then Healing/Slaying Melee would be the likeliest to synergize with this change (Counting BLU, Casting has 4, Fending already has 4)
- I kinda think that capping Jobs as more likely as a generic budget cut rather than reallocation, in contrast the dungeon cuts. But it will be the most evident symptom.
- However I do see some room being filled up for making the jobs feel more different from each other within the role, a possibility of there being no level cap increases (if slim) and likewise the now 5 Gearsets per tier possibly being seemingly more unique (though Casting/Healing would still likely share models)
Of course, considering most of the jobs need some serious work I’d welcome the change if they focus their efforts on fine tuning what’s available
Yeah. As a few others have said, if less or no new jobs meant more attention given to the jobs and content we already have, sure. I've already largely found a ranged, melee and healer class that I quite enjoy with a few others I don't mind playing occasionally. I don't personally need them to add new jobs to keep my interest up.
Honestly one of the main issue with the game is lack of content. With the number of jobs we have I think we have enough to level each expansion to satisfy the leveling itch.
I would prefer them focus more on additional content for all jobs to play instead of a single new job. Get us back to the quantity of content we had in the past at the min.
Wouldn't bother me at all. I mainly play for the story anyway.
I've accepted that they will eventually have to stop with adding new jobs and plan on playing as long as new raids, dungeons, and xpacs keep coming. FF has all sorts of great and fantastic jobs across all the games and the various universes, but I'm sure that many of them are so close to one another that it would not translate well into an MMO.
One thing I would personally like to see if they decide to adding entirely new jobs, is advancement of already established jobs. Kinda like what we have at level 30 for many of our current jobs. Some ideas would be to see our Mages become Wizards, PLD becoming Knight/Templar/Holy PLD. Not complete overhauls, but perhaps some aesthetic changes combined with stronger and more flashy moves.
There's already more jobs in the game than I realistically have time to play, so I won't mind at all if they stop adding them at some point. If I had to choose, I'd rather take more dungeons and other content to play with my existing jobs.
I wouldn't mind it at all, and even prefer it. I feel we are already at that point, and not adding new jobs would give them a lot more time and resources to use towards existing jobs. The reworks shouldn't stop with MNK in 5.4. many others deserve and need the treatment that MCH, NIN, and SMN have received. I will definitely be looking forward to seeing what they do with existing jobs in 6.0 more so than any new jobs that are added.
If they stopped adding jobs and actually fixed what we had then I'd be more than happy to keep on playing.
It depends when they announce it.
I expect at least 3 more jobs in the games lifetime. So if say 7.0 comes out with 1 job, and 8.0 has none, that's fine with me.
I would indeed stop playing then and there.
The reason is: with the content(or lack thereof) weve been getting lately, seeing how they implement new jobs and what said jobs can do, is the only thing that is exciting to me as of now. Seems like here lately, their idea of content revolves around tons of grinding. I just really do not want to see more of the same.
I would. I never really switch Jobs. I have my single Main Job and thats it. I dont really care so much for new Jobs now that they released Dancer. Dancer was the only time I switched Jobs because I was a Dancer Main in FFXI and now that its in XIV Im a Dancer Main again and dont intend to switch ever again.
Yes, scholar was the perfect match for me from the start (although it's been destroyed with ShB). I would get much less excited about a new expansion though.
New jobs is always more excitement and diversity, but they seem not have enough time to think well to how rework the others (and why rework them), so I'm fine with one new job only by expansion now.
Of course, a new healer job is the next on the list.
For me it really depends.
If I see the time spent on new jobs be used for new and interesting activities instead, then yes, I would keep playing.
If the expansion would just feel like our standard amount of content but without new jobs, then I would really consider if it's something I want to continue with.
Yes, I'd keep playing definitely. I don't care for more jobs, I care for the world and the story I adore. Give me more of that and I'm happy.
I would go even further and say that I wouldn't mind to be without a contents for 6+ months if that means we finally get rid of "legacy code" and server overhaul
No
but if they did stop adding jobs, they should go back and correct all the mistakes they have made this and last expansion dumbing things down, breaking the levelling experience, ruining playstyles etc so all jobs are fun and unique again with their own strengths, weaknesses, playstyles and identities.
Yeah, this really is an important addendum. As I said earlier, I wouldn't have personal issue with there never being another new job BUT I would want/need to see that resource investment put somewhere else. Maybe in improvement/refinement of existing jobs, maybe in entirely new different content, who knows. If it's just "Hey here's the same amount/type of content except you're not getting any new jobs" then I would waver. We've already seen that with dungeons where a dungeon (and Deep Dungeon) being removed hasn't really felt like we've received commensurate content in other areas to make up for what they've "taken away." Of course, that wouldn't really be about the lack of a new job but would instead be more about another red flag on the development of FF14 as a whole.
I just want class design to get better and BLU to be a real boy.
