Is Crystal Data Center bad?

So I often see people making fun of Crystal and saying it's bad and calling people who transferred from Crystal to another datacenter "refugees". What's wrong with that Data Center? Is it a bad joke or did something happen?

It can't be worse than the degeneracy that is Primal where you can see countless Party Finders advertising their ERPing, ERPing FCs, ERPing Extreme, ERPing Savage, feet pics, and escort services.

Idk I'm from crystal, Diabolos, and I like it but what do I know I've never been on the other data centers.

This happens on Crystal and Aether too, and happens first and foremost on them too lol.

I think the only reason it really came to primal is that when they did the great swap, some of the servers exchanged between data centers, and this landed Primal a few of the servers that innately RP from old Aether. Course, Leviathan's always had some ERP shenanigans going on. It was in that brothel article some game journo wrote on like 2 or 3 years ago.

While we all know Balmung is gonna Balmung, this is still weak bait. 1/10, not even fit for squirrels.

I'm genuinely curious, actually. From what I gather it's the least popular of the data centers but it can't be just because the raiding population is [allegedly?] smaller

It's largely because it has Balmung and isn't a "raiding" datacenter like Aether is, though you can still do savage on it like anywhere else.

Balmung used to be a very heavy raiding center. At least, back in the 2.0 days.

It's because people think that roleplay is the boogeyman. Plain and simple.

The people you hear these things from are the people that can't separate legitimate roleplayer's from the one's that actually break the rules.

I have an alt on Crystal (and a few friends who transfered over there during the Great Divide) and while I notice that the instanced content can be...an adventure over there moreso than it is on Aether (where my main is), the attitude on Crystal is way more chill.

So yes, you can wipe a few times but on Aether where it would devolve to salt and rage-quitting and vote kicks/disbands, on Crystal you just knock the dust off and try again. It's a trade-off but the relaxed attitude makes up for any gaps in aptitude IMO. Haven't tried Primal but a friend of mine moved there so I might make another alt. (Honestly it sounds like a more RP friendly Aether though).

It goes both ways. For every shortsighted opinion that pops up about Crystal, I too wonder how you can suffer such an environment in your datacenter's as well. You are all one collective unhappy group and it shows in these replies.

I don't think my experience of PF in EX would have been too different on another DC.

No, he doesn't. He shows there are players clearing Savage on Crystal just as there are players clearing it on other data centers.

Don't confuse the percentage of players with a clear as being the same as the percentage of players attempting to clear.

It wouldn't have been. All joking aside, people think of Crystal as non-raiders when the more accurate way of thinking about it is that people who are MOSTLY interested in raiding congregated around Gilgamesh to find each other. Crystal raids, we just RP as well and thus congregated around Balmung to find each other.

I used to be on Gilgamesh and now I'm on Balmung.

The difference is people being slightly less hardcore and sometimes in character when hanging around the overworld.

I wouldn't call people from other Data centers an unhappy lot. Just one's more focused on content. Just like I wouldn't call everyone on Crystal RPers or worse ERPers. Each datacenter has their pros and cons which general happiness may or may not factor into.

I meant general instanced duties. The only raiding I do is Alliance raids and the normal version of the 8 man raids. It is a tooth and claw battle for those two sometimes, but at least on Crystal everyone sticks it out until the duty is done.

I don't do Savage or Extremes or Ultimates but even so, Crystals is like a vacation for me sometimes XD.

They hate us cause they ain't us.

As someone that plays on the Crystal DC, here is my opinion:

It freaking sucks. I wish I knew how bad it was before making a character here. If you're someone that doesnt understand the appeal of RP, you will have a bad time. I almost never see a PF for anything other than selling content and stupid RP junk. I have found ut extremely difficult to find help for anything, because my posts are so far down the PD list that its tough to find. Ive contemplated quitting the game because of this DC, but decided I'm just going to transfer once my Road to 70 buff wears off.

You're not exactly at endgame so I don't see how this is a problem with Crystal specifically. Leveling and duty finder content is basically solo stuff. But if you think the grass is greener on the other side, then by all means.

I had a character at endgame on the Crystal DC, but took a long break from the game and decided to delete it and start fresh so I could see how the ARR revamp was. Also, I have a character in the Aether DC, so I know the grass is greener.

I'm leveling an alt on Marlboro and it's like night and day coming from aether.

I dont know crystal seem laden with a crap ton oob bots in town crafting. Think last night there were anywhere from 10 - 15 at goldsmith guild sitting under counter area there. The same at the arm and bsm guild in limsa. There are freaking everywhere. Fing ridiculous.


However each city state on crystal seems to be populated with players unlike aether where everyone hangs out in limsa regardless of the world you are in.

Honestly I have mixed feelings bit I would lean towards aether over crystal.

I'm from Byrnhildr, and I can tell you all ever since Server Merge that the quality of the raids have gone downhill.

and the number of raid parties on PF have gone downhill too.

Punishment served as of 10 mins ago. Whats fair is fair. In my defense, rating the poor quality bait in a titanmen thread is an insult to the concept of numbers in general so no offense was meant to the number 1. Hopefully it forgive me.

Well I left my old server shortly after the formation of Crystal. I think if you are into the more role play aspects of the game then Crystal is for you. If not, you probably don't want to be there. There's also a large amount of illegal RP there, which is why it gets such a bad reputation.

Yes, Crystal is horrible, OP should stay far away.

It's because of Balmung mostly. Before we even had the Crystal datacenter, Balmung was on Aether with us.

Just google: "What's wrong with Balmung?" or "What type of server is Balmung?"
