I have to agree with this. I've always disliked the mount casting time. Inconvenient, at best.
so you have to wake a couple seconds at best... how inconvenient
Likely to give it a chance to load so that all your mount's geometry data doesn't need to be constantly cached at all times. Same reason we have the Chocobo saddle bag, really: easy, non-intrusive way to keep server load that much lower.
When on a combat job the mount cast time is one the last thing that ask you to be a bit aware of your surroudings in the overworld or in Eureka, to not be interrupted in the middle of it by a mob aggroing you at the same time. Do you want to make these maps even more of a snore-fest ?
People are not complaining enough of bots crashing the market, let's make the prices drop even more by making gathering more efficient XD
The only game I played that has instant mount time is ESO and it has a very, very common glitch where players will run on the top on their mounts' back. Yeah, no thanks.
I think it's more the fact that you have to stand still first then press the button. Rather than just start moving and simply transition into a speed up, you stop dead, press button then move again. It can get particularly frustrating if you have a bit of lag, where sometimes you start moving too soon and it cancels your mount cast.
I don't mind it, what I do mind is that you have to dismount for every little thing.
I loved the instant mount cast option when it was added to their legacy system in SWTOR. The flow of movement from exiting combat is wonderful. Its like leaping on to your steed like some kind of boss whilst moving. Destiny 2 has it also and that is a must to get to the next open world target as the maps are large and if hunt trains are present you need to get their asap to get credit.
The flow is so nice that once experienced you wish it was a thing across all games where you can use a vehicle/creature to traverse maps without having to come to a complete stop before getting on.
Which games? Because all the serious games have cast time on mounts.
By serious I mean games that are not F2P P2W, and have paid subscriptions.

The two games mentioned prior in this thread are both Pay to Win games, sadly both started out as good MMOs but became Pay to Win trash. No, I do not want pay to win trash to hit FFXIV.
Assuming it's not another spaghetti code issue, I'd certainly appreciate if they made it like SWTOR where there's still a cast timer, but you can move while doing it.
If they do end up taking it out, I hope they still leave it in for PVP.
Being able to mount/dismount in an instant would make invalidate sprint and make chasing people much less fun.
I don't mind that calling your mount isn't instant, but I do think it could be just a little bit faster, like half a second or so. The cast time for mounts is a bit too long, but fine otherwise.
I also have mount and sprint together in a macro on R3, and if mount didn't have to cast time, I probably couldn't choose to sprint anymore when both are available.
I wish we could talk to NPCs without dismounting more than it being instant, but both would be nice.

You just have a bag of whistles to call them. They can't just appear instantaneously. That would break causality!
As many have said, way too much confirmation. What I'd do is slice off much of the "are you sure, that you're sure, really really sure??? stuff as suggested. The agony of dispatching retainers is one place where more clicks can be eliminated that need to be used to dispatch. The solution is a single special window - "Undo previous transaction," valid for all but MB interactions, for a minute or so. MB is trickier if the seller pounces on his proceeds instantly, but likely could be done with a delay or two... or maybe just left as is. By and large, however, just letting us undo the unfortunate mindless click would take care of most exhausted driver flubs. It is there now in crafting, in a way, with "trial synthesis." However it is fixed, getting rid of many of the useless clicks in the game gets my click.

I don’t really notice the cast time. I mean, have you seen combat? Compared to that, mounts are near-instant.
I'm pretty okay with the mount cast time.
Not automatically dismounting when I attack drives me nuts.

Unless I am missing something in ESO, which I also play, it's not p2w, unless of course you are one of those that are of that camp that having to purchase the dlc to get access to the gear that drops from the content of said dlc makes it p2w, but if that's the case, so is xiv since you need to buy ShB to get items from ShB content.
That's probably more to do with how NPC interactions work. So many conversations are basically mini-cutscenes, with gestures and emotes and stuff, that it's easier and less confusing to disallow mounted conversations altogether than to let you stay mounted for some but not others (probably can't talk to NPCs while sitting for the same reason.)
This has to do with the fact that most any interaction will dismount you or require you to dismount first. Talk to an NPC? dismount. Click on the 'wait here' action on the ground or try to perform an action such as using a dye or craft an item? It'll tell you 'can't perform that action now'. Until you dismount.
Only two things I remember that won't dismount you. Change jobs and eat food.
It used to be you had to manually dismount before you were able to talk to an npc or zone into an area were mounts were not allowed, like cities. The cast time for mounts, however, is so minor it doesn't really interfere with anything, including gathering, unless you are just super impatient and likely has to do the way the server handles the fact we can summon 1 of over 100 mounts at will, sometimes randomized by the system. That would be a lot of information to store. Most games with instant cast mounts that do not slow you down, only let you have one selected as your mount at a time.
The one mount animation I wish they would bring back, is the small cutscene we got in version 1 when we finally got our chocobo license, which took quite a long time, we had to slow run everywhere for about half that versions life cycle iirc since they were so slow to add mounts. It was short but cute.
