Please make seasonal events more fun/engaging

Most of the seasonal events so far have involved wandering to some random location and killing "special monsters", trying to herd said monsters, or, you know, talking to an NPC and just straight getting your reward. I was especially annoyed by the Valentione's Day one where you had to get into a PT with a specific kind of person and just talk to the NPC. What?

None of these are particularly challenging, or interesting.

So, some ideas:

1) When making events that involve killing special monsters, can these monsters be interesting on some way? At least marginally difficult to defeat? It's pretty trivial to run all over the world and blow apart monsters with your level 50. Maybe something at least a little challenging? Especially good would be something with a special attack you have to circumvent somehow. Or something you have to do something specific to find/spawn besides just walk around. I think this kind of event should be used extremely sparingly, however.

For example, bring back those crazy frog beastmen from XI, and make the player square off against it 1 on 1. You can have the monster's level scale to the player. Whatever.

2) If you're going to make us PT with someone to do something, make it something more than just gab with an NPC. Remember the event in Final Fantasy XI where you got teleported to a super dangerous area, forced down to a level 1, and had to hunt for a chest or whatever while dodging extremely dangerous monsters? Stuff like that is cool.

For example, teleport 2 players to an area where they have to work as a team, one player drawing the attention of dangerous monsters while the other person opens the chest, or something like that. Make it where the player that opens the chest (or whatever) has to do some kind of minigame to make it work, so the other player has to kite the monsters for at least a little while to give them time to do it. (This is after they had to dodge monsters just to get there.)

3) Bring back something like goldfish scooping from XI. It'll be even better in XIV, since you have a more interesting system for fishing. I really loved the atmosphere of the Sunbreeze Festival (though having a full outfit into of just the yukata top would have been... better...).

4) Have random events where players, you know, do something with each other. Like, they play some kind of game. One where anyone can join up, and doesn't require you to figure out some kind of PT beforehand.

For example, some form of dodgeball using goblin bombs. Players are only able to attack with goblin bombs, and have to avoid them to stay in the game.

Granted, these aren't necessarily the best ideas in the world, and all would need to be further developed before it was something you could actually use, but believe me when I say you guys really need to step it up a bit with the seasonal events. If you're going to go through all the effort of making them, they should be much more engaging and compel players to do them for some reason other than the sake of "completion".

I want atmosphere!

I want challenge!

I want interesting!

I want fun!

Please don't just "tack these things on". Make events everyone can be proud of! :)

I hope they do something like goldfish scooping. It was a really fun event i thought, the yukatas made it even more awesome.

They are fine for what they are, fluff.

I understand the difficulty of designing good seasonal events. They are one of the few things that I believe need to be accessible to all players whether you are a brand new player with only a level 2 Alchemy or someone with all 50's.

However if there were recurring yearly events that if I was a newbie this year I could level up to participate in next year then yeah, lets make the seasonal event have activities span many levels.

Heck, we could have a Christmastime event that required a DoH to make an U/U item and turn it in to a NPC and that would be fine with me as long as if I missed it this year I knew I could level up DoH in the next year and do it then.

Last thing I want is someone sad because they couldn't complete seasonal event content because they were new or had the wrong job leveled....

Remember that EVERYONE (Even level 1 players fresh on day 1) need to be able to complete the event.

This is what I think people are forgetting when they say the events "aren't engaging". How many times gave someone joined an MMO and an event happens...oh opps, you're not level 140 or able to stay alive long enough to enjoy the event?

They are getting better...at least those bells are gone.

not going to happen, ff11 events stayed the same from day one till when i quit in 08.

Seasonal events in FFXIV are of quite a good standard, comparatively speaking. I thought Firefall Faire (or whatever) was quite good, even if it was just a beta test for the chocobo escort quests. Everything comes down to resource management though. Spending more resources on these events might be a waste of resources. And so, I suppose instead of releasing one every other week, they could release fewer events with more effort put into them.

but i agree needs to be more fun, even if it's pre 2.0 ...even in ffxi only a few were fun and only fun 1 time at best.

but the jest of my thread is this

change around witch mobs give bonus exp in the game world during events ...so that we are all fighting mobs usually not fighting. like in ffxi so many zones died out, reborn them by giving exp bonus on mobs you kill during these events.

maybe have to be wearign the events close for this bonus on mobs.

and also zones that you can only enter during event seasons. like a instanced dungeon or something where everyone can go and exp together in santa suits, kill mobs, get rewards, exp and have fun.

I think quite a view were very fun and engaging :o
Summer event was a lot of fun with /pose-ing and /wave-ing those bombs around,
Halloween actually made me think a bit with those questions,
Christmas was not a lot to do but had a really beautiful story even with cutscenes :)
Gathering eggs and finding out all the combinations for easter was also a lot of fun^^
I'm totally fine with events like these. Everyone can participate and have a bit of fun without too much effort.
Also, really great atmosphere with snowflakes, flower petals, fireworks and creepy violet fog in town :o

What I really hate are those events in which you do nothing but walk to the NPC and get the reward.
For example the spring event this year. Talk to the girl, get the earring, done.
I was really, really disappointed :(

IMO i wish the items are more useful. like in 11 the Christmas sneak boots that was a 2hr recast THAT was awesome cause oh hell i ran out of sneak oils aand i only needed 1 more. or the Treat staff2 with warp. always had those 2 items on me at all times. I just home they do it good on this game and not make seasonal items have a god damn 5 recast when they release charged items.

I miss goldfish scooping. That was the one event that I could do every year when summer time came around because it was simple yet time consuming to collect enough goldfish to get the rewards. Another thing they could do would be to implement a level cap to level 1 and implement event mobs that you have to fight at level 1 if people want to fight challenging mobs.

I miss those belts in FFXI that turned you into worms.

lol i loved my mandorian belt used to run around city all the time in it emote attacking people. also they need to add stuff like the chocobo scarfs that ported you to the city choco stables, make the rewards usefull. or at least very saute after like those transformation belts, they are fun for awhile and always kinda fun to pull out to use once in while waiting to enter events and stuff.
