Yeah, I wish the Devs would say, "Oh yeah, we're gonna make you some open world Dungeons.", and I hope Content Finder doesn't teleport people. But I look at where we started, I look at what we have, and I look at what is announced to 1.22 and.. I think I'm satisfied...

I'm am actually confident in the Direction that this game is going. I believe we are on a direct path to a real AAA MMORPG. Sure, there are things I would do different, but there is no longer any game breaking mechanics on the Horizon that make me second guess this game.

The game is actually at a point to where I can recommend it to other people. A year ago today, I couldn't be bothered to log in at all.

Until the server lag is fixed for good, It's hard to say.

Still, I agree that the direction the game is headed is generally good. We'll just have to see.

If you actually pay close attention to the forums, it's usually a handful of people bringing up their grievances. At the moment, the majority of people are actually playing/enjoying the game. That's a good thing.

I love the Combat.

There are inefficiencies within the system. Black Mage is boring and needs more skills with unique mechanics, or at least the illusion of a decision to make to be engaging. Bard has awkward moments of "lull combat", where they basically don't have a lot of things to do, but overall feels decent.

All fights are currently limited to the terrible server response, so the introduction of fast-paced mechanics is very difficult for them to do.

How will crafting look when all the animations are shortened? Will it look as ridiculous as when they are repaired? I'm personally not convinced that the form of crafting we have now is the best and most engaging solution that can be developed.

There's a lot of storylines.

This is something that can only be determined after 2.0, but there are huge quality control issues with the main scenario campaigns. The quality isn't consistent, and it doesn't always feel like it was worth your time or advanced the story. Hopefully these are being completely overhauled. There are also countless default quests that rely on a dragon being present in the story, but you never get to see the dragon because the model wasn't created. Examples I can think of off the top of my head are quests involving Brother Telyn and Damieliot. There's also big issues with the over-use or complete misuse of certain music tracks within the quest presentations. Mechanics and battles within the vast majority of these quests themselves are utter rubbish. The best example would be the obvious parlay mechanics, but extends to "run 30 minutes to kill a wolf" or "pretend you have these magical sylph abilities that you don't actually have".

There obviously aren't any real engaging storylines below lv 30, and I think that's a major problem too. They don't have to be world-shattering, but they need to exist.

There is plenty left to be critical of, even within the things you have no complaints of, and hopefully they've addressed these issues for 2.0.

the world still blows. ive been looking forward to map remake the most.

I quit this game almost immediately after it came out. I played the Beta, bought a Collector's Edition, jumped in the game right at launch... needless to say, I was super disappointed. Cataclysm hit shelves... I quit FFXIV... That was 2010.

March 2012 - I read Massively all of the time. They've covered every update this game has had w/o bias, and it intrigued me enough to give it another chance (that + SWTOR was a bust).

I regret nothing in my decision to return. Very, very impressed with the changes. They've done a fantastic job so far and I now recommend this game to friends.

Great job taking a seemingly lost cause and making a complete 180. I thought this game was headed for the trash. Now, I genuinely believe it's a top 5 contender.

Yeah I would definitely recommend this game now. For some people their glass is just half empty.

I have to assume that was in reference to me, but I don't view this half empty because the game is making significant improvements. I wouldn't be subscribed right now if it wasn't. The problem is whether or not it can take that level of polish to where it's something everyone wants to do, and that's likely what they want to shoot for. They haven't met that goal yet, but hopefully they will.

I agree that the game has come a decent way since Yoshida became producer, there are still some glaring issues.

Animation lock.
Server lag.
Primal Loot distribution.
Leves need to be spiced up.
Marketwards need better functionality.
Base stats could be lower/ gear stats could be higher.
Evasion, block and parry should be more effective in boss fights.

If 2.0 is as good as it appears then we are in for a treat though.

I think that alot of what's on these forums lately is more people asking for things they'd like to see, where back in beta & at release up until not all that long ago the majority of what you would see were, "X is f'in broke fix it." or "X sucks make it go away." or "X was a bad idea bring back Y." posts. The fact that the overall tone has changed was what brought me back after I left, a month or 2 after CE launch, without seeing that I wouldn't have reactivated my acct and been willing to pay. The fact that it was free and people dropped it like a steaming pile of [expletive deleted] and are returning now when they have to pay also says alot. If SE continues to listen to players and builds a game that we all mostly agree on I won't complain. I'll give this as much time as I gave to XI. Most importantly I'll enjoy it, because if the people around me are happy and in good spirits chances are I'm going to be as well, and at the end of the day isn't that why most of us play MMOs?

I will always make suggestions though ^^

There's still bugs here and there and obviously lag. Ifrit battle being the most noticeable lag.

It is a good sign that more of the threads are about "OMG I'm worried how _____ will work in 1.22" vs "OMG I hate how _____ works and the game sucks".

Also, I am seeing lots of brand new people as well as people returning from quitting right after release.

Biggest complaint I have is the instances, I hate just repeating em over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. I know there isn't much to do, that's why I get on a few times a week to do stuff so I don't tire myself out.

Yep yep, people think I'm a hater of the game, if I hated the game I wouldn't play it. Right now it's the best err tied with mabinogi(it's dated though).

Agree OP, the game is actually enjoyable now, so much that I find myself getting an hour early to sneak some leves before having to go to school/work. I'm still liking swtor too but I think after I finish my smuggler's story I'll be back here forever. Don't need another MMO when this one will have all I need, hopefully. ^^

I, like many on the forums and in my LS as well, am recently returned to the game (post 1.21). I am having such a blast playing, and I'm blown away by the improvements since I originally quit shortly after launch. I have not felt so involved and interested in an MMO since like 1999 Asheron's Call and ~2005 FFXI. I can't stop slacking off at work reading these forums, if that says anything!

MMO combined with classic iconic FF stuff is really pure win in my mind. I think that's what was so hard to swallow about the initial launch...If it was laggy and buggy but it was Final Fantasy, I probably would have stayed. But the inclusion of jobs, Primals, Chocobos, airships, all of that...that is what sealed the deal for me.

I also can't say enough for how impressed I am towards Yoshi-P. I get the feeling that he really cares about the game, and about making it fun for the players. The team stays involved with us on a level that is lacking in a lot of other MMOs these days.


There are DEFINITELY some rough edges, like what I think is the awkwardness of the class/job system. It reeks of growing pains, but hey at least it's growing right? And of course I have concerns with the future path of development, but I certainly have faith in the team and I hope for the best. :)

But to me one of the most important gaming experiences is plot and storyline, and this MMO delivers better than any other MMO except probably FFXI. But the difference here is the story content is accessible to all players. Let's be honest, FFXI had a great plot but it was a long journey to even really begin getting into it.

So anyway, yea, FFXIV you rock.

Of course there will always be things that are not working the way I want them to. This game is far from Polished. More of what I was getting at is the feeling of impending Doom that lurked with every Patch. Since the day Yoshida took over, every single patch has brought with it a palpable sense of foreboding. Each contained a massive system overhaul that, if not executed with extreme precision, could have easily been the last straw. The Job System, The Recipe Overhauls, Dark Matter, the Combo System, The Grand Companies. Each and every one of these was a one shot deal. There was no room for a second try. Of course, I don't personally like all of the changes that went in, but the fine line was walked successfully. Nearly every major system in this game has been overhauled and each and everyone of them is good enough to only need minor adjustments over time.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it's nice..

Game is good as is, well except the lag and sluggish response time.

The final AF/body quests are a step in the right direction. Was a blast going everywhere and helping people/getting helped with AF.

the only 3 (lag/copypaste/linkshells) things that drive me nuts will be gone in 2.0

Everything else is golden

Once we jump to the new, better running servers, I'll be happy.

If Yoshi-P pulls of an epic E3 presentation, I foresee great things this year.

Yeah a bit of dyna/limbus style(not the same just the style) where it's 2hr farming in a dungeon once every couple days so as to not burn out on the 500000000 runs in the same dungeon for that one piece of gear would be nice.

I too am satisfied with how things have developed since this games rocky beginnings. I not only recommend it to friends but finally introduced two of my buddies just a few weeks ago. I can say it has been quite enjoyable going through the leveling process with them and showing them the world.

I only wish they would seriously step back and consider how the flaws that are currently in the system will affect the community in the long term. The unbridled PLing is going to lead to a lot of people capping out early with no real experience on how to play said classes. Then all they will have is end game and while it is an important part of any MMO. I feel you cannotand should not sustain the player base on it entirely. Changed the mechanic to render PLing past level 10 useeless. Extend the leveling time just a hair. Add limit breaks along the way so they can direct people to parts of the world they rarely wander.

Other then that I can't complain.

Unless you count the complete and utter alienation to my race a complaint. In which case they also need to add tails in character creation for Roegadyn. THEN I ain't got nothing else to complain about.

I believe that PLing, at least in it's current insane form is going to go away.
There's also been alot of talk about slow the overall pace of things, helping ensure we stay on the hook for the long haul.
I'm willing to bet there will be various limit breaks but not before they begin raising the level cap, so probably not for a year or 2 from 2.0 release.

I saw male Mithra, I can't wait to stop being a Manthra that carried over from my time in FFXI.

Im almost to the point where I would try to get friends to play. The only reason why I don't is I don't want them to murder me when they find out they have a ton of Ifrit and Moogle to do. :(

I'm very happy with what we have gotten and im excited to see what's coming in 1.22, 1.23, 2.0 and beyond

I will agree, there are still a couple of rough edges to be smoothed down but over all xiv has come so far.

I am Proud to count my self in the number of eorzea's adventuring rabble. I can't wait to see the next turn in this truly one of a kind experience.

I love the game. Have yet to get Complete Mnk quests but just yesterday did first Darkhold run. Love the combat and really enjoyed the dungeon. But what I have been really addicted to is the crafting and gathering. The changes to the crafting system, making each type of action useful (careful actually does something now!) has been great and makes you watch your numbers (must... get... extra... 30... quality...) giving a great risk/reward system that I love.

I am still hoping not all dungons will be instanced as I like open world areas, and while I do see the appeal of a party finder (took about an hour to find a party for Darkhold) I like interacting with my server community. And think that for every strong item found in an instance, there should be an equal set for an open world dungeon so neither type of content looses its worth.

If I had one thing that I could change for 2.0, it would be the leveling. It is way too fast and I wish to see it slowed down considerably (not FFXI slow but certainly not this fast).

The drop system in this game is awful grinding for days to get maybe, if you're lucky, 1 piece of blue equipment is stupid. The game's new content is overly easy and is just a grind for anyone with a half-decent group of people. The content is designed to basically make it so you never want to help anyone once you complete it because the grind was just that bad.

Simply put the game is unchallenging and just a boring terrible grind.

but if the dungeons don't let you grind...then you'd have to craft....and if you had all 50's o.o; then there'd be nothing at all to do.

You think this MMO has bad grind? I'm guessing you haven't played many eastern MMOs before, because some of them are just unbearable.

To be honest, the Gear grinding is kind of annoying. But, I do not grind for gear. The main reason I prefer non-instanced content is because when you use instances, you know the next one will have better gear. I want to do dungeons for the fun of doing dungeons. I enojoy the current instances and I do them whenever I am in the mood. I'm not going to do them 500 times knowing the minute i get their best drops there will be a new dungeon with better drops.

I believe the best gear should be something players have to build. Collecting items from across all the various dungeons and HNMs and then having them crafted into a large variety of gear. Enough gear with which you can pick and choose from the very best to create your own best gear.

For Example:

Gladiator Gear:

A full set of Blocking gear that focuses heavily on the use of your shield and shield based skills.

A full set of Pure Defense where you essential become a wall against all attacks.

A Full set of Offensive gear that focuses on your ability to put out high amount of damage to pull in hate.

From these kind of sets you then pull the pieces that suit your play style. They are all the best, but none are actually better than the other. You should get pieces of each from various parts of the world and then have them assembled by a crafter.

Low gear drop rates have not and will not ever bother me because I don't think dropped gear should be the pinnacle of strength and I don't think they will be.
