How do I deal with this? I play with controller so it takes me a little bit longer to target people. If it’s predictable damage sure I can get a heal off if I time it right, but most of the time (i do “easier” content so people tend to get hit by avoidable damage) the other healer heals someone to full literally 0.2 seconds after they get hit. So I really never get to heal. It leave me feeling like a gimped dps every run I do as a healer...there’s no way my reaction time will ever be that fast, oh wel. I just wish people weren’t so good I guess xD healing feels like more of a competition than dps tbh

If you want to engage more in reactive healing, dungeons are a slight option though not the most ideal. You will likely have to resort to GCD heals if the tank pulls wall to wall, or on the second pull if he splits it in half. Some players don't know/don't remember/don't care about the mechanics for dungeon bosses, and might require healing to keep them up. Since you're the only healer, you will have no competition.
In 8-man, the previous poster is correct in not competing with another healer if they have it handled. Just go ahead and DPS while keeping your eye on your co healer in case they need assistance. It's can be a bit boring smashing one button, but your co healer can slip in a moments notice, and you will need to step in. It's ok for you to hold onto your healing ogcds in this case as well, and feel free to still toss out shields. Some healers are just like tanks with their aggro, and they will arm wrestle you all day for the primary duty. Just let them have it, especially if they have it covered. It makes things better for the entire group.
24-man provides ample opportunity to do reactive healing. Sometimes the older raids like Dun Scaith or Orbonne require more healing than the recent raids because a lot of players are not actually new, but rather don't remember the mechanics along with new players being in there. Those can be a lot of fun. You will have fewer skills, but as a healer you are far less affected by this than DPS and tank jobs (one of the benefits to the healer status quo I guess).
24-man also will often require healers to support their other two alliances. Pay attention to the composition of the other alliances to see how much rezz support they have (RDMs and SMNs in their groups). Even then, you can and will encounter alliances where all their medics are dead. Step in. You can target their members by holding down L1 and then use left/right on the D-pad. Use each accordingly so you have less button presses to get to your target.

Sadly they aren't good. Split second reactive healing is very often wasted healing, unless someone is likely to die from a mechanic in the next few seconds. Very often raidwides and aoe are spaced out with long waits between them. If the next raidwide is 20 sec away, chances are an oGcD or HoT will take care of it or something like Assize will come off cd. If your co-healer reacted immediately to top the party off, they wasted your healing, their own resources and party dps through lost GcD's.Quote:

I just had a Puppets' Bunker run with a co-healer like that. I sat on my lily stacks all the time, while he kept Medica II up and used Cure I to top off people all the time. Never saw an Asylum from him, and when I casted one he just overhealed it anyway. It's even more boring if all you press is Glare and a Dia here and there.
He even did DPS a little. At least I saw a couple of Glare casts whenever everyone's HP were full. So why overheal like crazy? Why even use Medica II after Plenary Indulgence + Afflatus Rapture?
Usually, when I use Assize as soon as it's up it at least tops people off. This run it was pure overheal all the time... I only used a few Rapture and Solace so that it doesn't look like I'm not healing at all, but only like 3-4 were even necessary when people didn't dodge AoEs. -

Fortunately for many people in this game, tons of healing is what they want to do. And unfortunately, there's not enough damage to justify that much. Tbh, the way the game is designed prevents from such philosophy. Healer gameplay is optimized healing to maximize your potential and often times is communicating with your cohealer on shared healing such as timing your oGCDs to minimize your GCD healing.
The sad truth is that all the jobs are DPS. Tanks are just dps with defensive CDs and healers are dps with healing buttons.
A lot times in casual content, bad healers will want to solo heal because that's what they want to do. There's not much you can do about it other than DPS away and focus on doing mechanics. Sometimes though, some people feel that they can't trust their cohealer and will attempt to pretend like they don't exist.
Often times of course is these type of healers are bad. Either they are new to the role (but that's only at the beginning of the leveling process tbh, as you should know what to do at the level cap) or they simply refuse refuse to contribute other than unnecessary healing. There are no mechanics that require 100% healing uptime and there never will be. Sure there can be moments where healing is intense but they are followed by long periods of little damage. Tbh, I'd rather a healer that is but more DPS heavy because I'd rather have to put in more of my kit but really DPS heavy healers usually have a better idea at how to heal.
Idk if you've tried healing in Savage or even Ultimate but usually raiding content requires work from both healers. Healing is more rewarding when you can coordinate with your cohealer. Raiding is relatively friendly and there's a shortage of healers as well so there will be groups with open arms for a healer in their static. -

I remember healing in 2.0, and roughly 1 in 3 runs i'd have another healer who would spam medica on everyone if just 2 people were missing 1% of their HP.
They would constantly be out of MP, and complaining to me "heal more!"...
Not only did we do fine, because I'd just take over healing when they ran out of MP, but they still made it out like they were in the right, and "prehealing" is the only reasonable way to heal...
I understand needing heals for certain mechanics, but overhealing isnt the same thing as planned heals, and for what ever reason, this was such a common trend among healers.
It was also annoying for other PT members (usually the BRD) to join in the complaints with "I was watching your MP, it never went below 30%!" As if that would have anything to do with my healing. If anything, It just meant I wasnt using Stone2 over Stone1 enough.
Its no where near as common now, but its still a bit of an annoyance when I see it happen, even if I know most ppl dont complain in party chat anymore. -

It’s an inherent problem with WHM, it has such powerful GCD heals and MP restoration tools they can literally shovel out healing without a care in the world and be fine. Unfortunately unless your cohealer dies or you’re solo healing you never need such on demand healing. If my cohealer wants to do that I just fully embrace my glare mage green dps gameplay and look for spots I can dump my lilies (movement or downtime) and just keep on glaring.

This is a problem I've dealt with in the past. Usually I'll step up a bit, overhealing be damned, and see if they tone back a bit on their own... but frequently I wind up only really stepping in during an emergency situation. Ideally one has their cohealer in a voice call to coordinate things "I've got this AoE, you got the next one" kind of deals, but for most content I just accept that if they're going to reach for the heal button every time, they can be the one to heal it every time.

Except the healer who does that is the opposite of good and I am willing to bet they are new and inexperienced at healing. Expert healers know that it's not good or needed to keep people topped up 100% of the time. If there is ample time left before the next incoming damage then it's perfectly ok to let people sit low while regenss and ogcds do the work. Good cohealing consist of trading ogcds and resources with your cohealer. Instead of looking at yourselves like two healers think of it as being one combined healer. That is the key to optimal healing. This allows you both to maximise your damage.

Let them heal imo, it’s best to wait till the party/tank is around half health to start healing properly, otherwise throw out them DEEPs
Also, if you’re having a hard time healing on PS4 then just use the D-Pad, scrolling up and down through party members allows me to get easy heals off and things like a perfect divination, a notoriously difficult buff to get up on console, (at least that’s what they say) almost instantaneously if I have a card drawn and both my cards are ready, RIP old sleeve draw :( -
