I'd rather have had no new races at all in favour of enhanced customisation for the existing playable races.
i can understand that but that wasn't the question
I don't personally have any interest in either race. If I had to choose I would go with hrothgar though. I also don't give a crap about the customization options as SE was very forward with what we would be getting way before they released these races. Obviously children think if they kick and scream long enough they will get what they want. This isn't how life works.
I don't care much for Lupin. Had they designed Hrothgar a bit closer to Byakko in the overall build and facial aesthetics, I might have taken more of an interest.
Ah yes, comparing paying customers to "children" because they're dissatisfied with half-hearted races that don't even let you use many hairstyles or headpieces or the fact that existing char customisation remains unchanged barring a few hairstyles after 7 years. Such a mature response.
I dont play Hrothgar, but i feel like I still prefer their design and look to the lupin.
I have nothing against Lupin, I just like Ronso/Hrothgar better.
Which is actually surprising to me when I consider the fact that I love Wolves. But SE nailed the Hrothgar design really well.
Lupin in that regard feels like it was an early attempt at a beast-like race that didnt quite make the grade perhaps? Or they just realized that Ronso would get more of a response from the Final Fantasy community as a whole....
Compare them to Worgen in WoW; they are very basic by comparison and are just dog faces on a hyur body.
Hrothgar, if we just compare the two races directly to each other as they are currently. But it would be cool if they added some more faces that are more wolf like. We already have lion and panther sort of faces. Perhaps as a different clan so the diversity makes a bit more sense, yet still - that would be welcome.
It would be cool to see some more customization options like you might think going towards BDO (so not just getting muscle sliders that are textures, but actual 3d model sliding). Hrothgar with a real bulk and spine slider (standing up right vs hunched) could create some incredibly diverse options with just that (and the hair being separated from the head of course lol).
Big bulky up right beast, bestial hunched over, skinny lithe panthers, etc.
It would be hilarious to see lala with slider XD. Bulky muscle lala haha.
Can the lupin wear hats?
Yea, at least wolfmen would have been far more interesting than another cat race, imo. I don't dislike Hrothgar, but Lupin would've been more preferrable. I mean, if Lupin got a design from the ground up and weren't just wolf heads pasted on human bodies, it'd be great.
I'd be fine with it, but not in the state Lupin are in now. They pretty much just look like Hyurs with wolf heads and tails. If they were to redesign them to look more like Worgen from WoW (But with tails) or werewolves from Skyrim or ESO, that would be much better.
I hate cats. Both races kind of have Final Fantasy roots(wolf men were in at least FF5 and 6, while Ronso/Hrothgar were in 10, though they don't look anything like the Ronso from 10, so I don't really get the connection), but yeah...wolf men > cat men.
Being completely honest, yes*. I love the Worgen from WoW, or werewolves in general, and as another comment said, wolf beastmen would've been more variation than more cats - I bet you can even put a Hroth and a Miqo girl next to each other and anyone who doesn't play XIV would think they're the same race.
That said, I love the Hrothgar, even with their limitations, and don't regret their inclusion one bit.
*Assuming Lupin were developed the same way Hrothgar are (or better), not the ones we currently have in game.
Considering the Devs said they thought about Lupin, but did Hroth instead because they couldn't come up with enough meaningful character creation options... I'm glad they went with Hroth.
Hroth. They probably didn't do Lupin so it wouldn't just be another reason for the rabid WoW players to go "you guys copied."
Like they already love to complain about.
Honestly, I would've preferred lupin. Not that I don't like hrothgar, but i feel the body model lupin have (although similar to middies the stance is nicer) would've been nice to have....maybe they'll give it male viera idk.
Don't like the look of the Lupin so not really
Depends on if they have something like a Hroth body without hunchback. The Hyur body with wolf head and wolf tail seems too much like a Miqote.
Though the cutscenes for Hrothgar made me appreciate the race a lot more when going back to old expansions. I probably stick with Hrothgar even though I like wolf races more. I appreciate them all the more going into ShB content with their expressions. Sometimes the lack of headwear feels like a curse, but without the headwear I got to see a ton of expressions in cutscenes I probably would've missed out on that are really subtle with Hrothgar.
They were pretty monstrous, but not too monstrous. I thought it worked pretty well and played one for a while back in Cataclysm when they made their debut. The thing with werewolves is that they're supposed to be bestial and I thought WoW struck a good balance - for the men, at least - where worgen were concerned. You also had the benefit of a human form as well...which hopefully, by now, can be customised separately to the worgen form.
Furthermore, lupin aren't even werewolves in the first place.
I wouldn't play either, but we already had a cat-like race with Miqo'te, so maybe getting the Lupin instead of Hrothgar would have been a better idea. Not that they would have gotten more customization options probably, but not having another cat-like race would have brought more diversity. Other than that, I think Hrothgar as a race look fine (not counting the lacking options in the creator, just the overall look of them). I don't like human-like races with animal faces or furries very much, but Hrothgar are alright. Their faces still look a little bit human. In most other games I can't stand those kind of races.
While I probably wouldn't play one regardless, I do feel that Lupin may have been a better choice provided they be given an upgrade from the Lupin we have in the game since they look, as many have pointed out, like Hyur in Halloween costumes. We already have Lupin in the world and we already have a cat-like race in the Miqote so creating an entirely new Lionman race has always felt a little strange to me.
