What's up with the heavy necroing of threads recently?

Like just make a new one why bother resurrecting a thread from the beginning of the game restart the discussion

Just ask the perp--and his many alternate accounts--directly. Maybe he can tell you.

Squeenix bans people who talk about relevant things, not people who spend their daily post limit trolling, so we get thread necros, among other things,

Maybe it's a clever way to show SE that they want Necromancer as a job to play as.
Instead of making threads about "Give us X job" they simply perform the action of resurrecting dead threads. Clever.

People can’t make new threads, and people can’t post on “old threads.”

You also only “like” posts by people who insult someone else instead of giving constructive feedback or comments.

The forums are not a social forum, they are designed to give feedback on FFXIV for the devs to read. So when all you say is “no” or call someone a troll, you’re only clogging the forums.

Please examine the content of the poster we're referring to and explain how any of it is contributory to the threads or has ANY reason to necro them.

"I agree" on a year + old thread is a garbage response.

A bit of devil's advocate here but...

The JP don't have "necro" they believe in super threads even if a thread is 10yrs old they will post new relevant information in it. They don't like creating new threads when the old one is still being used ect.... it basically is a jp branded game. And yes I'm fully aware of "the troll" lol

Can you point to where this is stated? Because as far as I was aware, this is indeed a forum for fans to gather and discuss the game. Even if some seem to think it's their personal hotline to the developers.

I agree there's a definite benefit to keeping large threads running on topics, and if the forum had active mods keeping discussion on track and in the right places then it would be a much neater way of organising things. I don't even mind seeing old posts bob up if something is actually relevant and the poster either has or is looking for new insight on the discussion. (I'm guilty myself of kicking up a few lore threads recently because 5.3 put some new light on their subjects.)

But yes. Waking up past arguments with an unimportant bumping post is... well, the intent is clear and I'm not sure how it hasn't filtered through to the mods yet.

Looooooonnggg ago, part of another website, I had my question answered by Yoshida about how they handle feedback. They said they compile all the major topics across the forums (regions) going on and read them and it takes a lot of their time.

I think a major point is SE doesn't really like to rework things mid swing, they don't turn corners sharply out of no where, and likely a lot of that just has to do with their development line and not because they choose to be slow, but also probably because they want to be sure of things before just ripping the car around the track wildly, and so your feedback will likely appear months later if not longer and of course will relate to other feedback, the devs own personal feelings, etc etc (like later meaning at the next expansion).

Better then half the stuff other people make so it's whatever. Least the -Troll- liven things up. Plus it's fun to watch him troll most of the topics that come up in here. Kindof like watching a sitcom.

I see. I've been a part of other games' forums that have a generous amount of back to back conversations with devs. Those conversations are basically non-existent here. But I can understand why they wouldn't be able to I suppose.

This is my forum philosophy as well.

Another thing is I don't believe that you only post for the sole benefit of the poster that you responded to. It's a public message board, so anything you post can benefit anyone else who reads it. So even if it's a necro, and the poster you responded to won't read or respond to your post, your post can still add to the discussion as a whole and someone else can read it.

That said, I understand that there are certain types of posts that don't seem to have any use, but such is life.

There's also been an influx of bait posters with astronomically stale takes. Those new bait threads plus the necros of controversial topics for easy bait is quickly making these forums become useless for discussion. I really wish the mods would take these things more seriously. :T

Imo megathreads are fine, but they usually have some constant and consistent feedback, but resurrecting dead topics 6+months or even a year after the thread has run its course (especially when said thread has a modern variant) is ridiculous.

When someone revives only controversial old threads and creates other controversial ones, often with extravagant stories, it's hard to consider that person to be anything other than a troll.

We actually have seen this exact behaviour from another player from the same fc, and that account must have gotten banned because they suddenly stopped posting, and now recently we are seeing the exact same thing again from different accounts.

No this forum is for players to discuss matters related to the game. Not specifically only feedback for the devs. If it was as you say there would be no need for server specific forum sections. Hell, the "community" section wouldn't even exist at all, given that a community is a social group.

You're supposed to keep it all in one thread that's why they merged all the housing threads together

I don’t think people who use these forums, know what forums are. They treat it like Reddit and have no idea how to have a proper conversation that isn’t a troll thread.
