what were you thinking SE?

why do you think it is a good idea to put mobs 10+ lvls higher then my leve mobs litterally right next to it? i just hit lvl 20 and was doing a leve and out of no where i died, i didnt understand it at first. come to find out, there was a lvl 28 mob that i guess i aggroed by fighting the lvl 20 mob i needed for leve and was casting spells behind me and i didnt notice it untill i scrolled up on the battle log to see what happened.

now i can understand Square Enix that you want to make this game hard, by all means that's one of the reasons i like playing it, it doesnt hold your hand. but making the game hard by tricking your players? that's kind of low to me.

I know nothing will be done about this but i needed to vent. i mean, it seems like to me they want to run off what little player population they have left.

Where was this and what leve were you doing?

I once ran into the same problem before; Doing leves in Mun-Tuy where the nodes would all spawn in Alux's room. Very annoying.

Use to be that high level ants would attack low level characters in uldah, but they moved them to avoid pissing off players. Tell SE, where this still happens, they may change it

It's unfortunate that there seems to be some kind of a disconnect between those who place normal monsters on the map, those who place NMs on the map and those who design regional leves. They've been pretty good about fixing it when reported though, it's just unfortunate that it happens in the first place.

I mean I haven't done any leves in La Noscea (eugh), but I haven't ran into this in Thanalan or Black Shroud. Only place I had problems with was level 40 leves in Black Shroud.

Still curious what hes talking about since most camps this is no longer the case, cept maybe the 40+ camps where you are high enough to deal with it

Please let me know what area and levequest you were undertaking when this happened and we'll be sure to forward it along to the dev. team! As others have mentioned, whenever it was discovered to be a problem in the past, we've worked to try and alleviate the stress as much as possible.

it was the leve "Fiend in the Flock" and the area is right after you enter the cave and come out, there are a few dodos there along with that plant mob (cant remember the name off hand). but it was highly annoying.

Since his response was incomplete... that leve is in Bloodshore, according to yg.

Hmm. Well I can say for certain that I've done every leve in Bloodshore and I don't remember ever having this problem...maybe you should pay more attention next time? Because since the beginning of the game there has been a lot of adjustments to the population and distribution of mobs. If a lot of people were having the same problem, I'm pretty sure they would have fixed it by now...

I have been agrroed by this mob a lot of times, it's at the exit to the tunnel west of Bloodshore and it's really annoying because there is no way to run past it without getting hit at least once since the path is really narrow and you have to get into it's range.

It's one of those plant monsters by the way.. The name eludes me, but I know Barometz, the NM has the same monster appearance.

btw, once I was doing a leve @ Camp Nine Ivies (a leve where you have to defend a point and sometimes mobs would spawn) when my LNC was lower, and I got killed by a stupid mob that there was in the way many times (a high level flytrap, iirc). Also, there were high level salamanders and buzzards near leve target.

Not like there is much of any penalty for death.

I was going a leve in Bloodshore yesterday when Barometz one-shotted me at the cave entrance near Barometz. That could be what he was talking about.

yeah it was that guy, i did the leve again with that mob in mind and i pulled the leve mob with a spell and managed to pull it off no problem. it was jsut the first time being there and not expecting to run into a lvl 28 mob when im fighting lvl 20s. and yes, since it is so narrow, you cannot stop there because he will aggro you everytime

It's kinda sad that the mob distribution in FFXIV is so unbalanced. I can't think of any other MMO that has monsters of such disproportionate levels so close to each other. Hopefully SE will take the necessary measures to fix this problem in Version 2.0.

Yeah. Speaking of, though, can we get a fix on the bug where sound monsters aggro people walking? Like I've seriously been aggroed when locked on walk, entering a monster's radius many seconds later. I think there were times where my connection has dropped and I've not been aggroed, so I don't know what's going on there.

A lot of monsters agro to both sound and sight so that could be what you experienced. Also if you're messing around in the menu or resetting skills that will (or used to anyway) agro monsters as well.

This is not the case. Sure there are certain unbalanced situations, but it's not widespread.
On a side note, you can avoid aggro on most guildleve situations; everyone is free to check out types of aggro on Isilud Tengille's Wanderers Guide to the Aetherial Gates. As stated above, you can avoid aggroing roseling mobs inside their aggro area by either standing or walking.

PS. I'd love to see a Libra spell for every class/job in order to have access to this kind of information in-game, but that's another topic...

I have one to add to the list. On the leve Fishing Emerald Moss, there is a level 23 Angler camping the spots. Since it's higher than level 20 and the leve is rated for level ~10, the current stealth rank won't work. By the time you get the suitable Stealth rank, you'll be moving on to Tranquil.

why don't you just, you know, pay attention to your surroundings. 1. the mob can be seen on the mini-map. 2. the mob has a red dot next to its name meaning it aggros. 3. the mob has its level next to its name. (or if it is barometz it has a ?? indicating it is a notorious monster). I mean, come on, are you going to start a thread every time you die?

No, particularly I was thinking back on ghosts and others being aggroed by monsters that don't detect by sight.
