Getting around

I've only been playing this game for two days. It's the first MMO I've ever played so I don't really have a base for comparison, but I have to say that this is probably the best MMO ever made.

I have no quarrels about the game at all other than the fact that it's so hard to get places. Sometimes I only have an hour to play due to real life commitments, and I find that it takes me 50 minutes just to get anywhere. As a result of this, I believe that they should implement a great feature that I just thought of while running from Gridania to LL. Flying mounts. How cool would it be to be able to fly around? Maybe we can get our own airships like Setzer.

If travel in this game where any easier, it would be called Phantasy Star Online.

Basically, all you need to do is:
A) Get someone to take you to major Atherite crystals so you can teleport.
B) Go to major Atherite crystals yourself so you can teleport.

Yea SE definably need flying mounts when 2.0 comes out if they want to be competitive with all the other MMOs out there. I used up all my Anima and it takes hours of running just to get anywhere once your out.

We do not need mounts that are able to fly.

But we need Anti-Air weaponary to shoot down Garlean airships.

Probably a troll thread, but if it's not then you seriously need to expand your library of games. Even with all the recent improvements, FFXIV is nowhere near the best MMORPG. It still has quite a way to go until it can be considered a solid MMORPG. Here's to hoping 2.0 achieves what everyone dreams it to.

It looks like you've already made a lot of progress on your character, so you should be able to get a chocobo or goobbue mount if you don't already have one. That will speed up your travel considerably.

There are also airships for travel between the 3 cities at a slight cost in gil.

And of course, there is anima for teleporting. If you are really limited on the amount of time you have to play, anima is probably the best answer as long as you keep in mind that it regenerates a bit slowly and budget accordingly.


FFXIV is also my first and only MMORPG.

I've peeked at other games since starting in this genre a year and a half ago. I'm sure there are games with battle systems, storylines, items, content, etc. that are much better for various reasons that will appeal to other people.

But I actually share your sentiment that FFXIV is the "best" MMORPG for me and for my own personal tastes.

As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters, right? ^^

You make that sound like a bad thing. Phantasy Star Online was is awesome!

You can use the airship to go from Gridania to Limsa Lominsa. It's the staircase down in the adventure guild in Gridania. If you are a grand company member you can buy a chocobo for 3k seals. If you are not a member you can rent a chocobo, but it's time limited.
And you can get with level 30 a gobbue mount for free until 2.0

why run from Gridania to LL? just take the airship..

I should take the airship more... I wish they'd do away with anima/teleports, choco's and airships are all we need, and the ability to set home points at the crystals. Then 3 teleports to places by cities, but not to close, like camp horizon or tranquil or iron lake, but as a player cast spell that would take people in their party.

Man, remember when getting from the starter nation to Jeuno was your first biggest adventure? Oh god nostalgia.

I remember my first big adventure in xi being figuring out how to get out of san d'oria. then making the massive hike to lathine.

FFXIV was my first "real" MMO and I really like it, so I quite understand your feeling. I also understand that it has a lot of flaws and weakness compared to Other "Modern" MMOs and needs to be Improved greatly.

However, I think the Traveling in this game is quite sufficient, we have; Rental Chocobos, GC Chocobos, Goobbue, Ferry Ride, Airship station for each city, Aethernet for ease of traveling inside City and lastly The Almighty Anima, which allows you to teleport to any Camp you have previously travelled. Not to mention that you can accept Teleport Offers without having to have approached the Camp previously.

If XIV needs more means of Travelling, It will be when more content is up, New Zones, new types of things, etc or maybe stuffs like 2 person in 1 Chocobo or Flying Mounts which we don't have 0.0

Well, anyways, I was just saying what was in my mind, feel free to agree or disagree :p

I hope FFXIV will be a great game like how FFXI was in it's Day and Age, not in how the Game works, but how it influences people and provide an entertaining experience.

They put flying mounts in wow and people i know that play it said it ruined the game. They refuse to put them in GW2 so im not sure what competition has to do with it.

What an original concept, a player cast a spell you say and then it would take the whole party.

They're okay.
But I'm more into exploring a complete interconnected world. PSO is more of a dungeon crawler thing with a bigger focus on combat, which is fine, just not for me.

In my day when we walked to dragon's aery it was uphill in the snow both ways with true sight level 9999 spiders, crabs, darters, goobbues and some more spiders and crabs, also it was uphill even while going downhill, also there was snow, and water, some slushy snowey waterey snow water snow, also uphill.

Yup. You could call the spell [Teleport-Horizon]. But you'd have to buy it, all your spells wouldn't just be granted to you. But yes, leaving bastok to gustabergs, then konschtat highlands, the dunes, and the scary walk to jeuno which only took me 3 tries. Then when I got there I didn't level for a week, i explored, sold stuff, choco quest, etc. The sense of wonder I guess is what xiv didn't have for me, or if it did, it didn't last nearly as long as it should have. xi still had it after 5 years.

I would hate to have to run from Grid to Mog, Auren Veil every time and a lesser extent uldah to Ifrit/CC especially having to go to grid after every mog/ifrit kill. Doesn't sound like one bit of fun to me at all.

You need to realize that in FFXIV Version 2.0 that the game world is not going to be seamless. We're going to be broken back up in to zones like in FFXI for the sake of game stability and area diversity. My point is that having a flying mount once 2.0 hits will be pointless.

I believe we need to get rid of Anima. I think Aetheryte's need to be used to get from one zone to the next. So if you need to get to Camp Horizon but you're on the outskirts of Camp Bloodshore, you'll need to return to the Camp Bloodshore Aetheryte to be able to select Camp Horizon as a teleport destination. They could even monetize the system to help out the already broken economy.

Recap, Flying in 2.0 will not work. Require teleports to be made at Aetheryte's for Gil, not Anima.

yeh that is true, the maps will be too small, even now they are to small for flying mounts, there is to much "out of bounds" and "invisible walls" currently, like you cant fall of mountains to your death, cant even jump so you're very much tied to the ground. I garauntee even if jump is added there wont be fall damage as they'd be still tons of "invisible walls".

Aion had this issue so it let you only fly in certain areas otherwise its just "gliding" and they made a full zone dedicated to allow flying but ofc it has a limit. Other games with freedom like wow have huge zones so theres really no out of bounds.
