They should bring back the fame system!
And what is the fame system?
Ahh well the fame system is a system where you need to do so many quests to open new quests. You would have different fame levels for each region which would open up different quests.
And what would the purpose of this fame system be? I mean, besides that it was in FFXI and therefore must also be in FFXIV?
The company system is as close as we need to get to this
we already have turnins for rewards and such
Don't want, it was boring as heck in ff11. Grand Companies fill that gap quite nicely :D
well i was comparing the two to myself but in the grand company system all you do is trade seals and get a new rank and one new quest, or is there some new feature im missing?
How is that any different from fame?
people like you make it really hard to request for stuff that was great in ffxi. So let me get this straight if i request something from Aion,Rift,WoW,GW1 or GW2 is fine right? but soon someone request something from ffxi which it's the same company and ffxiv from day 1 should be have everything ffxi had but better and diff like garrsion,BCNM,PVP,fame system linkshell system that you can pick from many color not just from a set few.
FFXIV from day one should have been a 100% clone of what FFXI had to give to players just 100% diff and better and 10x better and FFXIV would have been a great game and added dungeon finder and many things from wow and other games and it would have been great.
I don't see why we can't ask stuff from FFXI -.- FFXIV is noting like FFXI and look at how far it's going now it becoming more and more like FFXI and WoW and look how great is becoming so i don't see the issue at all on asking for more stuff from FFXI when ffxiv should have been more like ffxi to start with to get more people playing ffxiv.
its basicaly the same
in 11, and most other games, you do massive turnins, to get rank ups, and with those ranks you can buy stuff according to said rank
in 14, you turn in stuff, and you use the points you earn to rank up AND to buy stuff with said ranks
basicaly, it gives you purpose for using points and stuff beyond just the ranking up here
No. I've done the same with suggestions from other games that were unjustified or would not fit with the current direction FFXIV is going. What would fame even do right now for the game? This topic is literally nothing more than "let's put it in here without putting any thought into it."
I'm sorry, I thought FF players hated cloned games? I mean, you guys make fun of WOW and Korean grinder clones all day, yet here you are asking for a clone of a game that is still running.Quote:

well for one i was able to participate in fame from each region, i only have one grand company..
two there was a lot more involved in gaining fame then just farming some stupid seals and getting one quest, they are sort of the same but gaining GC ranks is currently a pretty lame system. If they could somehow put the two together and improve on the original idea, that would be great.
As for Zenaku's point, I agree, howcome its ok to ask for ideas from every other game EXCEPT FFXI????? They are both from the same freaking company... FFXI at one point was 10000000000000000000000 times better then this garbage minus the graphics. I personally DO NOT like Wow so i'm likely not going to make any suggestions based on that game. Never played Aion, Rift, but i did play a few of the free Korean games. Nothing else i've played ever compared to FFXI.
So, why not instead ask for more quests and missions pertaining to GC?
The vast majority of suggestions come from FFXI because the vast majority of players who play FFXIV have only played FFXI. I have also critiqued suggestions coming from Aion and WOW. There just aren't any.Quote:

um....it was turning in 5000 of an item to gain fame, you call that involved? HELL NO it wasnt
it was one of the most horrible grinds ive ever seen in a game, worse then exp grinding
lets look at the company system, you can do tons of stuff(including turn ins) to get your points up to rank up and buy items and get new quests, not just 1 quest you gotta repeat 100 times just so you can do a single, or if your lucky 2 new quests that uinlock stuff later
ok so you took the easy way out by trading cabages, it doesn't mean everyone did and it doesn't mean that's what i'm asking for. BTW all you have to do in this game is run toto rak over and over and over and trade in the items, whats the difference? The difference is different fame levels in 11 and what they lead to. GC leads to very little in this game.. silly chocobo gear! woooo.........
ok tell you what, dont join a company and never work on getting it seals ever and lets see how far you get, youll be allowed to do next to no content cuz alot of the unlock quests are involved in them
thats no ifrit for you, no moogle, no darkhold....just to name a few
you really are quite closed minded
also, totrak is slow, you also have turnins, caravans, guildquests and tons more stuff that works just as well based on what you like to do, totrak isnt the end all of it
dude that would be hella tight if they added fame. but only problem is is that there arent enough cities/towns. but i second OP motion. good idea man!!!!
The fact you never touched FFXI aside, Fame does this:
-Unlock Quests/Missions
-Adjusts vendor prices (this is why crafters are suggested to get high fame, more return profit)
-Makes NPCs react to you different (kind of hypocritical to say people want a dynamic world but will shit on an idea because it came from FFXI)
-FFXI wise, it allowed you to extend your inventories.
Only people who say it was "boring" or "tedious" were the group of people who thought you only get fame from repeatable quests and never went past rank 2.
I don't know any of what I said is closed minded and i didn't say i never did any of the mindless seal grinding to get my ranks, i simply said its currently boring and different from what fame was.
I don't agree with Wolfie or TheVedis, i don't feel they are the same. can we now agree to disagree and you may now leave my post now for others feedback? You've said what you need to say right? We get it, you think the dull GC rank system is the same as fame, cool, i think its the same as rank in 11, not as fame. great, we get it.
Instead of saying something like:
"What would be the purpose besides it was in FFXI"
You would know what the purpose of a Fame system would be if you had actually played the game. Other games post 2002 started incorporating fame systems as well because *gasp*..it's a good system and opens the doors for content based around your particular playing habit.
This is why a Rank system (GC) is nowhere near close to what a fame system, they're 2 separate entities.
This is where I get to call you a presumptuous c**k and illiterate, because I asked for justification and purpose, and not what it was. There was no justification as to why someone would want this system in the topic. I know full well what the fame system did in FFXI, because I was active in the game for 5 years.
Please, if you would be so kind, tell me why the GC ranking system would not be able to do what the fame system did in FFXI? What is stopping the devs from adding vendor discounts and recognition for high ranking members, or quests that require higher ranks?Quote:

Get out, nobody needs your constant QQing about the way I made my suggestion, I don't care if its connected to the GC or not.. i simply want the system added. If i listed everything the fame system was and asked for it to be added you would come in and say "why didn't you just say you want the fame system added, IS IT THAT HARD?" If you want to improve my suggestion then come in and say, "so you mean add this feature and this feature and this feature? I agree or I don't agree". What you basicly said is 'I'm just going to come in and bitch about everything I can'.
I read this thread before I went to sleep last night
Had a nightmare involving millions of millioncorn
everywhere
not... enough... fame...
MMOs are moving away from these mechanics because they aren't fun and are nothing but artificial time sinks. Maybe "other games post 2002" should be revised into "older games that haven't evolved."
No challenge associated with fame/reputation systems, just boring and horrible repetition. XIV does not need fame or any reputation grinds. GC seal grinding is already enough.
Herpderp.
The fame system was this awesome system FFXI had. The more quests you did, the more fame you did. And npcs would start recognizing you and offering you new quests. Having high fame would also lower the prize at NPC salesmen.
Anyone who doesn't like the fame system is an idiot who doesn't want to actually play the game, just have everything served in a silver platter. They are also the same people who complain they run out of content too fast.
Not awesome. Terrible.
You should revise your statement that if you wanted anything, you had to actually turn in hundreds if not thousands of millioncorn/cabbage/vegetables at Selbina because it was the quickest and most efficient way to gain fame.Quote:

Fame was more or less a horrible block for people to start experiencing content. Don't have fame? No problem, we'll just exclude you from playing the only job you had a desire to play in the first place! Hurray!
Because nothing says fun like wanting to unlock Summoner as your main job, but having to do some arbitrary garbage fame turn in quest. Accessibility is far more important than FFXI nostalgia or "FFXI challenges."Quote:
