What do you think of having a "Monster Arena" in this game?

For reference. The Monster Arena was a feature in X that allowed players to fight monsters, and it also tied to capturing mechanics in that game as that is how the bosses therein were gated (that and cross breeding)

I make this thread to ask if you would like something similar in this game and how would you envision it happening?

I'd love it. It could be Beastmaster's little side content thing like Blue Mage's Masked Carnivale. Maybe combine it with aspects of FFVII's Battle Square where you fight a gauntlet of enemies with increasing, randomly-selected handicaps. It wouldn't have to be locked to Beastmaster combat, though. It could just require beastmaster in order to unlock it and add enemies to it.

Honestly, this would be absolutely amazing content.

Having a log of monsters to capture, maybe even add some spice to that with special circumstances to capture them.

Could near well just take that FFX content 1:1 lol, it'd probably fit well. Maybe a new series of monster hunter like crafts inspired from the content. Like how they make armor from monster parts (has some aesthetic of what it was made from).

Personally I'd prefer it to be more like the Battle Arena in FFVII (the original, not the Remake) which is a similar idea, but would be a better fit here (the Battle Arena was in Gold Saucer in FFVII, so it would make perfect sense to be in Gold Saucer here too). Halatali after all once featured GLAs fighting monsters and beasts in it's halls too so it would make even better sense.

I guess the reason why it hasn't been added yet though is SE probably just regards it as superflorous - it would distract players from doing actual battle content.

I'd imagine it could work both ways, as an arena where monsters could fight but and as an arena where players fight monsters. For the former, it would definitely make the most sense to tie it to BeastMaster (assuming it will be a limited job). For the latter, it would be difficult to balance but we already know the devs have created, in their words, "Ultimate" style 1v1 PvE encounters with the Bozjan Front events. So separate that out into a Golden Saucer event.

FFXI had Pankration or however you spell it that was essentially a monster arena. However it was more pokemon style in that you caught, leveled, kitted monsters with skills and abilities and they then fought monsters caught and trained by other players under full AI control. It was a good diversion to pass time every now and then.

Won't work was a bad idea in FFXI and they tried the golden saucer minions fight not popular.

I wouldn't like it tied to Beastmaster because that means another weak Limited Job. BLU could have been something fun for old content, with a huge range of powerful monster abilities, but it had to be balanced around the Carnival. This resulted in a bland toolkit full of elemental spells with the same potency and a small handful of other weak abilities such as bad tank stance, bad voke, weak heal, bad invuln, nerfed raise, cast time Trick attack and so on. BLU is essentially a Carnival class.

A battle arena for all classes, ranging from easy to Savage, could be very interesting even if difficult to implement. Sort of like WoW's Brawler's Guild.

I am reminded of the times I made Prontera uninhabitable in iRO's early days through spam of dead branch and bloody branch items...

The technology already exists in the game. We got the monster assets. This should be a piece of cake for the FF14 team to make.

The only thing that remains is the demand for it.

I'd be super down with it. I loved it in FFX and with some variations, I'm sure it could be something great. Perhaps a new attraction in the Gold Saucer, perhaps something with the Beastmaster, I wouldn't mind (even thought I'd prefer the Beastmaster being its own job and not a limited one).

No matter what they did with this idea it would def be interesting.
And as long as it's not super RNG dependent (like chocobo breeding) I'd probably sink pretty deep into it.

Rathalos EX proves that the player base is terrible at doing this kind of content.

This would be so cool. I absolutely loved that arena in FFX. Definitely would do this! Beastmaster limited job would be perfect for this, let us get a bestiary and capture mobs in the game and train them! Could also use them in fights, Lord of Verminion style!

Kind of? A little? Maybe on the surface of the concept.
But we (or at least I am) are asking for not an RTS and something that ideally involves some kind of training / levelling system for the monsters.

Rathalos EX is still a pretty easy fight to do though despite it being an "Extreme". It's nothing like how Extreme's usually work anyways.
