and people actually pay for it?
In ffxi yes, here, I pled people for free and I've seen a lot of other free pls. Leveling doesn't take that long sooo it isn't that much time wasted. I have yet see someone pay for a pl. Either way it's stupidly fast to level up.
I've seen people pay through the nose for PL.
yes, people have charged for it and there are plenty that have paid for it. there was a group that shouted for power leveling all the time and charged to get groups together for them to party.
no one feel stupid bout it?
Idk lets ask....
Hey the people who payed for pls, do you feel stupid doing it?
PL is one thing, but paying/advertising for PL is different
Actually, on Gungnir,
People shout that they WANT to pay for PL.
I dont want to sound like some elitist jerk, but PL totally rob the fun of the game
And before someone said that grinding is no where fun, it is
Its the process that matter, not the result
In FFXI, I had people beg my WHM for PL all the time, offering me insanely stupid amounts of gil. I'm diametrically opposed to powerleveling, so I always turned them down. I actually had some people get hostile with me when telling them 'no' five times and explaining why I felt it was wrong wasn't enough.
I hate powerleveling, and was hoping it wouldn't creep its ugly head into this game. Imagine my disappointment when Yoshi-P created a game mechanic that allowed it and said he was okay with it.
depends on who you are asking if they were stupid. if you are asking about the people paying for it then it's a matter of opinion. if you are talking about the people doing it for a fee then i don't blame them at all nor do i consider them stupid at all.
Yea i know
Opinion etc
Its like playing with gameshark lol
People are still caught up in the belief that having x number of max level jobs is some sort of status symbol.
These are also, usually, the people who get called out for being complete idiots or being incapable in party content.
But what the process is so damn tedious that it makes you question whether what's waiting for you at the imaginary end is worth going through all of that - or just PL. Saying this with a presumption that those classes won't even be played by the person getting PLed. Or even this. . . . People perhaps would like having them capped at 50 and would like to do it the regular way but there's kids, job, who knows what else and just cant do it that way.
My case, as follows: I PL people and get PLed back. Why? I just want the damn crown >.> and although it does devalue the achievement of getting it, especially since some people never, ever PLed, I'm more prone to believe the achievement itself devalues the game. I don't ever intend to play any of the classes I had PLed, so there's that too. The ones I do play I did the hard way, leve linking and grind parties and I really love being 'that character of that specific class/job'.
One other thing to note; I was competely determined to have all my DoW stay at level 0, no matter if it means I'm handicapped more in battles than the people who had all battle jobs at 50. I found some satisfaction in seeing my lodestone profile display a "-" next to a DoW class. But then they added achievements with a shiny thing at the end, and as someone who loves playing dress-up, the PLing end was inevitable for me. Once again coming to the point that achievements can be fun for me, but I'd rather not have them at all, cause the moment they're there I go OCD :/
Oh, and everyone was shouting 'you gotta have Sentinel or you souldn't bother doing Ifrit' when that was released and it made me feel like crap that I can't participate in endgame just cause I don't like leveling or playing Gladiator :( (no, I can't have a class stay lv36 for eternity - it's not orderly)
Thanks for reading about my mental issues :p
tl;dr
Can always do it how you feel it suits you best: regular, slower way experiencing each second of it - or fast PL way if you don't care as much for the game in general and/or don't have the time or commitment to do so.
I think I wouldn't use the phrase "completely determined" if you caved to pressures.
No harms done Chard
After all, its just an opinion
Chard is anti-penis
I've totally considered shouting competition to sell PLing for half the price just to see if I could disband that party or somthing. Not that I care about PLing at all, I just wanted to be a dick.
hmm
you know thats a good idea
there always people undercutting
Too bad undercutting is why the economy on Sargatanas is so fucked.
I've seen people shouting on Riddill for it but not that often. It's more common for them to thank the PL by letting them have the drops from PL parties. I can recall very few times I've heard people offering to PL for gil in shouts. The few times I have heard them they are soon followed by people offering to do it in less and less time for less and less gil to troll them.
I've seen people shouting in Ul'dah stating they wanted to pay for PL. If they're asking a randomer to PL them and want to pay, I don't see why not since it's up to them. Personally, I don't mind doing it for free.
If they want to reach max level and then idle in Uldah complaining on the forums there is nothing to do ingame, let them. If they want to pay for PL, who cares, it's their gil. SE certainly doesn't care, so even if you do, nothing will change, simply because people who are against PLing are a minority.
For me, leveling isn't that fun unless you get a good group together (which is rare, because most people just get themselves PLed), but it gives me something to do. I haven't reached max level on every (battle) class yet and I don't plan to make it a priority anytime soon.
This.
Still don't know why anyone insists on complaining about PLing. Does not affect your gameplay at all >_>
Paying for it is stupid since there will always be someone willing to do it for free, especially if you have a linkshell. If not, then yeah might as well pay for it i guess. Not like lvling is fun anyway lol.
Yep, once PL was larger than it is (when most were still actually leveling) you had people actually charging to PL because it was pretty much the only other thing they had to do so why not profit on it?
Like everything else in this game, it's a non-issue because there isn't enough fresh blood entering that charging for PL would benefit you in any way.
People pay for PL in this game?? LOL!
leveling as much as I have, I've found that you almost have to try to be bad enough in xp parties to do serious damage to your gains, and one or two people can carry a stronghold party even, and the skills you might pick up in the xp grind don't exactly translate 1:1 to the content you can do post 50
I am beyond furious.
Last night somehow *I* became the bad guy because I tried to help someone.
There was this 36 BRD /shouting and /shouting over and over for PL PT. "PL Me and I'll PL You!" Nonestop for like 30 minutes. Finally I had enough with my chat getting spammed with this clueless git so I told him to shut his godamn whore mouth and to stop being lazy. Go out and get a PT for your exp.
"No one has invited me!"
"No one in Ul'dah has invited you. Go to your search feature. Looking up people 3 levels below and above your current level and check the 'In party" filter. Ask them if they need a rep soon"
"I already got to 36 and I've done my work. PLing is easier"
At this point I lost my calm and began to bitch him out for being casual worthless Taru sucker and the exact reason I wish I still had FFXI's just certifiable difficulty to filter out useless dumbasses such as himself.
Yet somehow I get ganged up on by 5 people telling me to leave him alone and to "stop getting mad".
-_-* These are the kinds of players that never know how to do their job because they just sit there and wait for everything to happen for them. It breeds bad players who won't last anyways and just contaminates the available pool of people to choose from.

You were being an ass for no reason. It serves you right. Basically this was your conversation as you described:
Bard: LF PL!!111!1
You: STFU and lvl noob
Bard: Can't find party
You: Try search function
Bard: Tired of grinding, just want a PL
You: (insert string of personal insults here)
You call that helping? Basically he told you quite nicely that he'd rather look for a PL since he's had his fair share of grinding away. In return, you act like a jerk. Whats even more shocking is that you think you did nothing wrong and were perfectly justified in acting like an asshole. Ppl like you are everything that is wrong with FFXIV.
That last sentence cracks me up coming from you Rayna.... Especially since you just chided him for attacking someone and guess what you're doing!?
I told him how to find a PT since there was the remote possiblity he was just clueless instead of dilatory freeloader. He responded back that he is too lazy to lvl up and just want free exp. I call him out for being a bad player.
The only people that would defend him are those who PL themselves and don't want people to view their undue accomplishments as the worthless inexperienced wastes of party slots they are. I went from 1-30 Pugilist in 6 days. With 2 of other people. Just using leves and chaining mobs. The exp gain rate in already mindnumbingly high. PLing through that small window of time that you need to learn how to do your job properly negatively impacts you in the long run and robs you of the experience of progressive accomplishment.

Well when I look at it.... I've played since beta, got a couple 50's. Leveling with a PT is nearly unheard of in my book. I have tried using seach function, and the recruit feature. To this day I have never had an EXP PT. I got GLA to 50 through leves alone.
If there were some entertainment, or even a hint of fun in leveling, I'd be happy to invest my time. But being as it is, I'll stick with getting PL'd and enjoy the game as I see fit. If people don't like PL's, then don't do them.
Offering 250k per PL on gugnir lol, got multiple chars that need some leveling action
I was not attacking him, I was attacking his actions. You should try reading that again lol. Ppl try way too hard to troll.
EDIT: In case its hard for you to understand, acting like an ass doesn't make you an ass, it means you had a lapse of judgement. If i tell you right now you're acting like an idiot, it doesn't mean you are an idiot, but that I think your actions are idiotic. Its a way of saying "you're better than this so please stop doing what you're doing"
There's nothing wrong with any of that. But your post made it sound like you were being a lot more venomous than that. Idk if you were just adding colorful language for entertainment value, but if what you said was anything like that post it was totally uncalled for lol.
I don't want to get into this but you can learn a lot about your class from 40-50, when you have access to all your skills. PLing doesn't make you a useless slot; not putting any effort into your class does. Grinding does not mean you will become a better player. Its a chance to practice, but only if you actually try to improve your class gameplay. You can just as easily faceroll grind to 50 and not learn anything. It depends on the individual in question. I put all my effort into learning my class from lvl 40-50. Yes I got PLed to 40. No I'm not a useless party slot. The difference is I actually *tried*.Quote:

Ppl like Elexia and Rayna (who I agree with sometimes) will play on stupid things like that instead of telling the truth. If you're gonna be assholes to other people stand by it, don't cower behind things like that.
