Should I feel bad?
:(
Nope, that's how I make my money. If people can't be bothered to look things up even when SE listed a sale by price for just that reason that's not my problem.
If someone can't bother to literally talk to the NPC 30 feet away from the board.. that's on them. May your profits be large and may bots never find your moneymaker.
Imeant I make an effort to h most of the time, so I can feel confident in that when I sell gear, it's gonna be better than the bog standard stuff.
Plus they don't sell green gear anyway
Sometimes I've sold stacks of iirc 2 Gil salt for like 1k per salt lol. That sort of reselling is not particularly fast Gil but it's certainly easy, usually I only bother when near an NPC already - it's not like I need it, just think 'what the heck, why not'. People who don't really care for their Gil and or are making such huge margins that they don't mind are going to be the ones buying stuff like that, I don't mind their donations lol.
You shouldn't feel bad.
Good job, thanks for destroying my market by literally telling everyone my secret. Now everyone is going to do the same thing ugh
Nah, lots of people do that. It's the "Convenience Store" mentality, more power to ya. It's easier to go to a Market Board and buy the upcharged stuff, than try to remember, however briefly, what vendor you need to find - for many people.
That changed a little with whichever patch it was, that made a lot of the city vendors carry all the different levels of items (to a certain level). But not much.
F'r instance, that Hempen Camise that sells from the Vendor in Ul'dah, for about 100 gil? Yeeeeaaaahhh... and how much are they on the MB, any given day?
I used to make gil by buying up cheap ore from the Beast Tribe vendors and re-marketing them. Haven't done that in a while, but I imagine that's still to be done, also.
It's a service - people don't have to go farther to reach a specific NPC when you can just sell it in the marketboard.
It's certainly one way to sell and make money although it's not the best way, it's definitely a lot easier than spamming dungeons.
Your providing a service, most players forget which npcs sell what while the marketboard is an extremely convenient centralized place to buy anything.
Nah. I do it from time to time too :-D
And sometimes marketboard is actually cheaper then buying from a vendor. Figures
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it. If it makes you sleep better at night ripping people off enjoy yourself.
SE literally has coded a 'sale price' indication onto every item in the game that can be purchased from the vendor. It shows up every time you hover over an item at the marketboard. The only thing it doesn't do is tell you /where/, but if money was such a big concern to someone you would think they would actually check upon seeing the potentially massive difference. It's ten seconds to google, then maybe a minute tops to aetheryte hop to the desired location depending on potential travel time. If someone isn't willing to put that little effort into finding the best deal then I really don't think you can say anyone is being ripped off. At that point it's a choice.
A choice which I've definitely made myself when I'm feeling particularly lazy, mind. Sometimes people weigh the convenience of the marketboard versus the hassle of tracking an item from a vendor down, and find the former to be far easier to deal with.
unless you are putting them up using a bot, make gil however you want
This is kiddies play.
I remember selling glamour dispellers for 7k-11k each before glamour system update. :D
As mentioned it's a service. I buy from the MB all the time, even when I can see clearly on the item that it's available from a vendor cheaper. You can go digging through google, find the npc, teleport over to them, buy your one worthless item for 16 gil and go back then repeat for the next item, or buy it instantly for 1k which is absolute peanuts when you're sitting on hundreds of millions and zero use for it.
Low value items take up retainer space and I'm glad there are people selling them for when I want one, it makes my gaming more convenient. Keep up the good work.
No one is being ripped off. They're choosing to pay extra for the convenience of not having to find and travel to the vendor.
I paid 750 per Sheep Casing on the marketboard last week instead of traveling to Crystarium and back to buy them from the vendor at 493 each. Was I ripped off? Nope. It was my choice to pay more for the convenience. If they were being listed at 1500 gil each, then I probably would have gone to buy them myself.
Nah, this is something I've done in the past to fill MB slots when I didn't have time to make stuff, and it's also something I suggest to new players complaining that they're broke. The items typically won't sell if your markup is ridiculous, but if you keep the prices reasonable it's a win-win for you and the buyer.
Do you feel bad?
Nope. You shouldn't feel bad.
I would say it's all about the scale of what you're doing honestly. If you're charging more than... what, probably 1000 gil on the markup? I would say it's in the wrong myself.
I wouldn't say it's wrong. Gil is pretty useless after a while though. Once you have so much there's really no reason to keep accumulating since there's nothing to spend it on and they hand it out like Halloween candy.
I used to sell this type of bait, i forgot what it was called but I clearly remember buying each for nearly 1k and reselling for 5-6k on mb. Best part was that I was the only seller and those thing were selling like hotcakes for a solid week before some other people started to catch on and sell the bait too.
Best 450k I made that week without any real effort from just selling that bait only.
