Can we change how fishing works a bit?

I still find it really egregious that Fishers not only have to pay an absurd GP cost to have increased HQ chance at fish, but also have to spend GP to actually reliably fish up these damned fish without them getting away because of some "inefficient hookset" bullshit, which makes no sense in the concept of just being more patient to get fish.

Can we instead just make it that Hook, Powerful Hookset and Precision Hookset are changed to Standard Hook, Powerful Hook and Precise Hook, and only work on specific tugs? Precise Hook only works on ! tugs, Standard Hook only works on !! tugs and Powerful Hook only works on !!! tugs. Keep the price of Patience and Patience II the same or even increase it a little, but get rid of the inefficient hookset debuff, since we're no longer spending GP on our hooking. Double Hook can work on all tugs, or can have it's cost reduced a bit and be made into an ability you use prior to casting your line.

Also, can Surface Slap and Identical Cast either have their cost reduced by 1/4th or 1/5th or have their effects last for the next 4-5 fish we catch? It's kinda garbage that the equivalent abilities for spearfishing last the entire duration of the node you're at, meaning you can get anywhere from 3-5 fish, depending on the bonus of the node, but the fishing versions will end the moment you hook something.

As long as we're at it: let Fishers know where they can gather fish outside of spearfishing.

Add what bait was used to catch what fish to the log.

I feel like if you straight remove the GP cost of the hooking skills you will almost always only fish HQ from now on. Because it won't consume enough GP.
There has to be an advantage if you don't use patience or a disadvantage if you use it to balance it out.

Double Hook should ignore the inefficient hookset debuff, and the GP cost should be around 200 tbh and not 400.

Surface Slap is persistent if you don't catch the fish that was biting, it will stay for the next attempt. Feel like many don't know that, it is really useful to remove a fish that has a high catch rate that way. And if you are going just for !!!. You can ignore !! and !.

Feel like they have to be careful to not make Identical Cast and Double Hook the same ability. Why would you ever Double Hook when Identical Cast is even more efficient?

Spear Fishing is far more faster, gives more fish and nets more HQ fish too. I don't think it is helpful to separate efficiency of fishing that much. They could make old fishing more powerful.

I thought fishers had always been complaining about their GP not being useful... And just when GP is useful to fishers now, we got this? O__o

Imo, the current GP cost for things are quite reasonable. And to be fair, the fishing spear provides a crap ton of GP, making fishers having so much more GP than miners/botanists already.

Currently GP us mostly spent to get HQ using the patience + hooksets system. If you make this system too GP efficient, then you wont see NQ fish on the market anymore.

Also making Double Hook available on all tugs will be way too overpowered. That's gamebreaking.

Why though? Big fish have their own catch probability, even if you don't have patience active - they might get away. Some rare fish can't be double hooked anyway. It should only ignore the debuff from the Patience buff but the inherent fish catch rate will still stay like always.
If you look at the GP cost you would invest around 600 for Patience II and would need another 400 for a double hook. You can only use it one time, with a cordial maybe a second time. And if you look at the actual fish you would double hook... well not really many fish are worth more than their vendor price. I wonder why it is game breaking.
If you compare it to spear fishing Bountiful Catch costs 200 GP which is the equivalent to the non-spear fishing which costs 400.

Not a fan of making spear fishing overpowered, my guess is they want to combat fishing bots that can fish at one place forever by making actual nodes to go to, still sucks though.

Because big fish are either cought with using precision or powerfull hookset and it requires knowledge wich one is the correct one (well it's usually the same you have to use for the normal variant of the same fish).

The skill I have a problem with is Fish Eyes. It once was a way to prevent us from using Patience for Mooch, but since we now can use cordials while fishing and we have Mooch 2 that's not a real problem anymore. The skill is just a useless GP dump and when there are more than one Fish Eye windows at the same time it becomes a stupid RNG lottery without even casting your fishing rod...

IDK... I mean fish eyes + patience was a fun but calculated dance in HW.

Now, with max melds but using the relic rod, I have 857 GPs without food. I fail to see a problem other than the multiple fish eyes targets and they do that on purpose.

I agree with both of these. I never liked the way the fishing log worked. I think the fish guide/fish log should be rolled up into one resource and it should include what bait was used to catch fish there.

fishing is meant to be more of a side activity in this game. it's made to be purposefully obtuse to inspire the community to discuss amongst others the ideal/optimal baits/times/windows/etc. that's why websites like cat became hungry and such are created.

So are the other two gathering classes but they are massively imbalanced in relation to fishing.

Totally agree on Identical/Surface too, OP. It's absolute trash that spearfishing lasts the entire node but we can't get multiple casts out of the fishing version.

Fishing needs an update badly. Spearfishing is much more in line with the other gathering classes. Now they need to fix the surface level side.
