Do you have to stay subscribed to keep your house?

So I'm only 2 months into the game, and when I asked about housing and how to keep your house from being demolished, I've come across differing sources of information. Some people have told me you need to stay subscribed year round, while others you only need to enter your house every 45 days. While the latter still limits you to staying subscribed almost year round, it does allow you to unsubscribe for about a month, so long as you re-subscribe can enter your house again before 45 days. So does anyone know for sure whether you have to maintain a year round subscription to keep your house?

You only need to enter it once every 45 days.

I've got a few friends who had no subscriptions for a month and they didn't loose their houses. When they came back, they entered their houses and voilà.

Entering your house once every 45 days is the actual requirement, but currently the demolition timer for houses has been suspended due to ongoing real world issues. They will make a forum post when these timers are reactivated.

Just to add to what others already told you, only entry by the owner of the house will reset the demolition timer when they're active. Entry by a tenant does not reset it.

Apartments never have a demolition timer. Once you purchase an apartment, it will always be yours unless you intentionally relinquish it.

To further add: right now, auto-demolition timers have been suspended in light of the COVID-19 pandemic (before any Karens pop up, the pandemic has caused many businesses to cut back operations if not shut down entirely, which means a lot of people facing financial hardships, which means a lot of players unable to keep their subs up through no fault of their own), so until further notice, you don't need to worry about losing your house if you get one.

...to clarify (because I recall some threads about people complaing because they got this wrong): Entering your house means actually entering your house through the front door, aka: loading into the estate itself. Just entering your property, aka the yard is not good enough. You need to click on the front door and enter the interior of your estate once every 45 days.

For FC houses any member can do this, for personal homes it has to be the owner themself - you'll get notifications under the "timer"-menu if houses that you're tenant off are up for auto-demolition aswell, but only the owner will be able to reset those. And only YOU can kepp YOUR house from being demolished.

I'd like a one time fee for permanent housing with no demolition timer. They can charge enough to make it help pay for more server space etc for more housing wards for everyone.

Even someone who intends to have a lifetime sub could get in a car accident, or really any number of ways that they lose access to their computer for a while. And if the housing timer is active, then poof it's gone.

That would be an apartment for you - 500k gil, no demolition (and its very, very unlikely they'll ever introduce demolition for apartments). They mentioned that they're looking into expanding apartments aswell, so maybe one day we could have apartments with the size of mansions.

One of the best things SE could do for apartments, which they can do right now, is to increase the furnishing limit to 200 (the same as a small house). That alone turns apartments into a playground for anyone who wants to do fancy/glitchy house design. The current limit of 100 items is just far too restrictive imo.

While I know other people want, bigger spaces and other features, if SE could add an indoor garden plot item for crossbreeding along with the above increase in furnishing limit, that would pretty much "fix" apartments for me.

SE prioritizes players who cannot pay their sub over players who can.

Reinstate Auto-Demolish.

I haven't even reached 100 items and my apartment is so cluttered I can't move around in it. There's not enough space for all the things I want to put in there.
You need a larger apartment space in addition to an item allowance increase.
They probably won't do that.

You must be using lots of very large items then. My apartment is at the 100 item limit and it looks very sparse because I couldn't place little knick knacks around like dishes, and vases, and other decor to make it look like a more lived in space. Here's what mine looks like:

I had to get rid of dishes, food items and even a stool in my kitchen. I also had to get rid of the coat rack by my front door and the sword display on top of the cabinet next to it. I even had to remove a feature from my bathroom so I could place a guestbook. I also wanted to put a wall shelf in my bed room with some books on it and carpet the room. Not pictured is a little reading nook outside the bedroom where I have a book shelf but couldnt add a nice reading chair, a small table and a carpet, again due to the 100 item limit. So I can only imagine you must be using lots of really big items if you find your apartment cluttered and unable to move around in with less than 100 items.

Hopefully apartment upgrades will be part of the Ishgard introduction. They would make a lot of people happy with small, medium and large options.

While I too would like to see larger apartment sizes added to the game, I would not pin my hopes upon it with Ishgard. That seems like the kind of feature that would come with a new expansion to me.

How the hell did you get stairs in your apartment? My apartment is a one room box.

It is a furniture you can buy. You gotta buy multiple ones thought to make stairs like he did.

I don't even understand how you got that in there. The ceiling in your apartment appears to be much higher than mine. I thought all apartments were uniform.

They are uniform in size.

How you decorate makes a difference in how spacious something feels. Lighter colors tend to make rooms feel bigger than darker colors. Full walls close things in, making them feel smaller as well.

Ah yes, indeed. I just phrased it that way to indicate it was accessible via market but yes you can also craft it !

It's in your nature to buy everything, with rupees falling from the sky like that with every post you make.

As others mentioned, I crafted the stairs (I had to make 3 and they attach to the wall), and I think my ceiling just seems higher due to the fact of the light colored walls (as someone else mentioned), that most of the default wall accents are covered by stage panels making the space seem bigger, and because I kept much of my floor plan open, only having the downstairs bathroom and upstairs bedroom really being closed off. If you visit the apartment you'll see the bedroom and bathroom are more cozy spaces than the rest of the apartment.

If you have the opportunity, you should take a tour and you'll be able to see up close, and at every angle, how I basically created that space.

My previous apartment felt much cozier and smaller due to it all being a single level but it was nice. I like the current one much more though. It feels brighter and bigger thanks to how I arranged the space.

Have I subscribed to keep my personal and FC house? Yes, but I also don't think spending €25 or whatever my sub stops at (with retainers) is a lot of money, but I can understand some feel it is.
