Yes, they said there is only going to be one dungeon in each patch now, I think it was in a live letter or maybe an interview but yes it was some time during 5.2 they said we will get one dungeon per patch moving forward, personally I wished we got at least two but it's one from now on.
Yes they said its cause too many dungeons and that theyd rather work on different kind of content. like BA 2 ozma strikes back

It won't be. We'll be getting even less as time goes on, pretty soon 1 dungeon only ever other major patch. Then eventually no new dungeons outside of new expansion fare. :( It's been trending this way since early Heavensward :(
Do we know what "other content" they're trying to focus on?
What is this other stuff I should be getting excited for?
In Stormblood it was mainly Eureka that we got as a replacement for the one lost dungeon every other patch.
In Shadowbringers its gonna be relic-related content again, namely the Bozja Citadel that we should be getting with 5.3.
In addition to more fleshed out relic-content (lets face it: ARR and HW only made us re-run content that was long dead), I'd imagine its a lot of "smaller" things - Trust-NPCs for every Shadowbringers-dungeon, gathering/crafting/Diadem rework, ARR rework, Varis as some kind of "bonus Ex-trial", new PvP-maps and modi...
...not all of that is content you, personally, will be getting excited about - just how dungeons arent content everyone is getting excited about. If you cant get excited about anything but dungeons, you can always vote with your wallet and leave.
So far it has not been worth it. But it’s inlt 5.2 hopefully 5.3+ will prove fruitful

All I knew was that we also weren't getting a deep dungeon this expansion so I didn't know what the devs were focusing on instead.

In general it seems - from all that they've told us - that they want to try more new, fresh types of content and dungeons arent excatly that... and while PotD was certainly fresh, new content a third iteration would just be more of the same again.
While I agree that we're certainly waiting longer for some "big" new content, I can see how they started with some smaller additions - like Ishgard, Trusts and new PvP. Non of that is a direct replacement for dungeons in the sense that someone who likes dungeons will get content they'll surely like (...maybe Trusts?), but I often feel like those things are so easly overlooked by people who only focus on dungeons...
It's not that bad, while they have made less dungeons for us, they've also gives us less reason to need them.
They're great for a story piece, but there's really less and less of a reason to spam them once you've leveled up.
Again, they're giving us less reasons to run them.
I've been in a dungeon like maybe 3 times since 5.1, other than initial unlocking and completing them.
Roulettes just aren't needed once you have everything you want, tomes and such can come from much easier content like hunt trains and such.
I feel this so much, I enjoy running dungeons in this game, however its really just not fun anymore, with how few dungeons there are now, one of the 2 ex roullete dungeons every even patch will be item level sync'd, plus one dungeon will stay in the EX roullete for over 6 months. Having EX roullete dungeons be ilvl sync'd is just depressing.
The "best" idea ive had for it is have the expert roullete contain all level 80 dungeons, however have them scaled to current max ilvl, we know they can do this because the new unreal trials we are getting will be just this, level 50 trials scaled to 80. The flaw with this is that it could potentially cut off the ex roullete off from the dungeon ecosystem, so someone running for the first time couldnt be matched with someone from the ex roullete, unless they made ex roulleters sync if someone was present with first time bonus/ manual queuer.
Sure, but doesn't the current EX roulette have all but, like, 1 of the level 80 dungeons?
If they're only adding another every 6 months or so like you said earlier I'm not sure simply putting them all together will give us enough variety, especially since then, what, like a quarter of the duties in the EX roulette will have been there for the entirety of the expansion.

the ex roulette as it stands now isn't much of a roulette its mostly constant grand cosmos which we have been doing since 5.1. Its old and I'm tired of running it. I like the idea of lumping all the 80 roulette together for variety. But at this point something needs to replace the other dungeon if they are going this one dungeon per patch route. Either they need to introduce the exploratory mission earlier in the patch, or they could inc the rewards from 50/60/70 roulette to inc whatever tomestone. It isn't enough right now. I prefer hunt trains than doing dungeons these days. Missing that july date really blows.
