Complaint about NIN from a Healer:

Can we please change the buff icon for Doton?

It looks too much like Doom, and in fact the words "Doton" and "Doom" look rather similar at a quick glance, and sometimes when NINs use Doton, it sends me into a split second of panic of trying to heal a NIN that doesn't need healed because I mistake "Doton" for "Doom", esp when I've yet to realize we have a NIN in the DPS, if I'm not expecting it.

I think changing the buff icon would go a long way to reducing this. Perhaps change the blue in the icon to brown, maybe?

That is an incredible weird request, even more so considering that the ammount of fights that have doom is limited and is very scriped. However i will agree that some options to actually manage icons would be a great QoL improvement, as a MNK it fucking sucks having to scan half of my screen to check for buffs and missing them because they look so dam similar (Twin snakes for example). Justa way to sort them would be nice as in personal bufs are always first then party buffs.

But you should always be expecting Doom. It only ever occurs in specific content and is always scripted.

I know, but sometimes when I'm tired, and I'm a healer, esp in dungeons I haven't done for awhile, I don't remember what all a boss does and I see a Doton icon popping up, it catches me off-guard sometimes.

Buffs and Debuffs are pentagon shaped.
The buffs points upwards while the debuff points downward.

On top of that, Doom is black and red, doton is black, red and purple/pink at the top of the icon.

The shape + the colors should be enough to make the difference, unless you are about to pass out from exhaustion which in this case... Get some rest.
Other people also mentionned it, Doom is scripted and never appear at random, only selected random targets.

Just let people die from Doom.
In most cases, they can either cleanse it themselves of they did that to themselves and deserve to die.
Remove Esuna from your hotbar.

i mean OP could be colorblind, which i could see being an issue

but yes, if the "arrow" is pointing up its never going to be doom. moreover cleansable debuffs have a white bar on top, and the only normal (not ex/savage) duty where doom is cleansed from topping hp is wanderers palace hard i think

basically op you shouldn't worry that much, and just look at the shape of the buff/debuff if the colors are an issue

In most cases, Doom is unavoidable. It's also very often only removed by healing the target to 100% health or a healer casting Esuna, not something most players can do on their own. I.e. The mechanics where Doom is cleansed by the target on their own or can be avoided are the exception. Angry Man doom can be avoided or if received is self-healed by standing on a platform, and terrorsaur doom is unavoidable but self-healed by standing on a platform. These are the only 2 that come to mind, although I might be missing one somewhere.

I'd personally prefer if Leaden Fist (& maybe Twin Snakes) could be added to the job gauge in some way. A small fist icon that lights up would be helpful akin to how Dark Arts lights up for DRK. Nothing worse overwriting Leaden Fist because there was 12 other buffs on my bar...

I feel that would be rather easy to implement, perhaps have a big hologram of a fist appearing behind the bar when you have Leaden Fists or something, lol. But I've also wished for that too while I was leveling MNK. But now that it's 80, I don't play it much but doesn't stop me from hoping that they do something like that someday.

It's funny how MNK always finds a way to be mentioned in most of the forums here. Not that I'm complaining or anything, more as just a testament to how badly it's been ignored by SE.

personally i would love if dev make an option to allow us a deeper customization for buff/debuff icon.

like moving certain buff/debuff to other place, or make it bigger, or put an option when the timer is 5 second less the icon will start blinking like mad to notify us, or maybe a warning sound.

as BRD i always have problem tracking all the timer i have, being able to put certain buff/debuff icon to the position where majority of my eyes focusing is major benefit for me (like brd 2 dot icon on the right center of screen and make it bigger)

right now most of the time i play this game, my eyes seems to stuck 60-70% of the time on my hotbar and enemy debuff timer instead of actually seeing the center of my screen lol

You can do it with the entire status effect bar. You can't do it with individual status effects like he requested.

That doesn’t work for the Doom in the final boss of Wanderer’s Palace HM, because that boss targets someone random to give Doom to and they have to be healed to full to cleanse it. Same for TGC’s Cleansing Strike mechanic. In Exdeath Normal Mode, two people randomly get Doom as the first mechanic, and they have to be cleansed off via Esuna (unless you have two BRDs that have the awareness to use Warden’s Paeon, but that’s asking for a lot).

Sometimes the Dooms aren’t avoidable like the ones in World of Darkness.



As for OP’s concern about the healing to full Doom, I’m fairly certain that the only instances of where you have to heal to full is the final boss in Wanderer’s Palace HM and Orbonne Monastery’s TGC. Knowing that it only exists in two instances is all you need to really worry about in terms of “what if I have to heal them to full”. The other Dooms usually have to be cleansed via Esuna (Exdeath NM) or by the affected individual touching a platform (WoD). Doom isn’t a very common mechanic, so knowing the handful of instances where it shows up is all you really need to worry about.
