Hybrid race

So someone i followed on DA, made a FF XIV oc who is the child of her and a friend of her's FF XIV main character, and is a hybrid between an Au Ra and a Elezen, which is really cute! But then i realize something, will there be an option to have a hybrid race character in the game?

Pretty sure they said no to that when people asked about a playable race like Hilda.

They did? But we'll get more hybrid character characters like Hilda? I'm sure there are other players been curious if we get more hybrid charterers.

SE said they wont add in hybrids long ago. The closest you'd get to what you want is using mods.

Some of them look good...but others...like Viera/ elezen mix...nah fam.

That's a shame. It would make for a good story of how hybrid need to face reality in the world of FF XIV.

The problem with that is lore wise mixed-race children are actually very rare (both due to social taboos on mixed-race relationships and that biologically children do not result from such unions that much, when it does happen it seems to be almost always a hyur and another race). A post on the old FFXIV version 1.0 forum by Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, co world lore creator and head of localization, revealed this fact (excerpt is below):

Note that this was back before ARR was launched so characters like Hilda were still to be added. But the situation is still pretty much the same. Mixed-race characters are rare and thus simply will never be playable I'm afraid.

I see, still, i hope to see NPC mixed-race character for any main story. I mean with what you said about social taboos on mixed-race relationship and to have a crossbreed child would be hard for the family since most people will shun them and their child. And with how the current main story goes, wouldn't be the perfect moment to make a quest based off this?

You might get them as NPCs like Hilda because they can do all sorts of additional customisation to NPCs that we can't access in the character creator.

But short of a major overhaul of the character creator, we're not getting it - and even if they did overhaul it, it'll be about what new options they want to prioritise. Giving the option for hybrid races would mean needing a lot more variations for character designs, and you're probably not going to get any special body models, just faces. (Even Hilda is just a tall Midlander with modified ears.)

They'd definitely be better off left as NPCs if you're interested in their story, yeah.

There are already races in the game that face prejudice (Duskwight Elezen for example) but you never really notice that if you play one because there's simply no room for it in the story.

Okay, but still, i am curious on the crossbreed characters would look like, consider there are a lot of races it's kinda hard to imagine one. Like how would a crossbreed character look like if he/her parent is an Hrothgar and a Au Ra?

That would be another reason why they're not going to provide hybrid options. Either you get weird crosses or they cheap out on some or only let you have the really human-shaped ones.

admit that you only want to have different ear shapes and heights that can be fixed with just a glamour fake elzen/hyur ears or viera wigs

Hybrid races would not be a good idea due all the combinations thew would need to make and some kinda touchy (lala x anyone) on connotations, no need to go that route of drama.

And if they implemented only a couple then again people will just complain.

What they should focus on is on give actual races more options, fist the ones already used by other races (hair).

Also to add more base customization options whey would need to rework how character data on body feature [slots] are used, a they are not increasing them due server data transfer limitations

I always wanted Lala-Miqo’te mixes and now I’d like lala-Viera. But I can imagine other ones looking really cool too!

I doubt it. A hybrid race is still a new race, and I would imagine players would be more in favor of male viera if they did do another one.

This probably won't help much, but I find that most races have Hyuran features in the options that make them closer to Hyurs than their actual race, especially female Miqo'te and Au Ra. I've always thought that these characters are biracial. Total headcanon, but yeah. xD

If au ra are already hyur + something else, I'm scared of what the original looks like. I guess it's a good thing we wiped them off the face of Hydaelyn.

Would do miqote + aura. Get aura length, face and emotes while having miqote ears, pose and no scales

Head glamours like "artificial elezen ears," and "make-shift au ra horns," sound like the best option to me. Give additional headgear options without having to totally revamp the character customization... yet.

I want Hyur x Miqo'te for taller kitten and tailed humans ♥♥♥.

I only have interest in Half Elezen option. Other races are already half/ and human, so further devolution would only dilute those already sparse features, to say nothing of the issue with certain races not being compatible from a biological standpoint.

Half Elezen (a race with already established precedence) have the best chance to be implemented imo. Not only would it be most cost effective asset wise, but also give the player base the Elven option many feel they were cheated out of due to reuse of Elvaan assets from FFXI.

SE has often been asked about "fixing" Elezen proportions but claimed that they felt sticking to to their design choice was in favor due to already established player fan base devotees. Given this fact, fans of more reasonably proportioned addition to Elezen as a sub race, much like WoW has done with allied races.

Hyur base, Elezen ears, a mix of Elezen/ Hyur animations picked to make the race unique, and done.

No need for remodeling equipment assets or further work. As an added plus, all previously added hair options would be there with all base options for Elezen & Hyur, i can only see this as a win.

It's really easy to create a hybrid NPC...you only need to make sure one specific combination of features works together.

Allowing hybrid PCs would require making sure all possible combinations work, and they don't even want to try to modularize current existing traits with few options, like decoupling auri horns from auri faces...so don't expect mixed race PCs any time ever.

Not in this game.

But much like the genders I think "maybe next game?".

Let be real here, this game is old af and it's CC is restrictive even for a game of it's era. There have been such advances in CC since then that if races for the next MMO they make is mostly "Human+animal bits" like this one is then they could easily make a few crossbreeds playable.

It is depressing to think that this game is nearly ten years old. Yes, ARR happened, but it was still built off the back of 1.0 and its ~2010 Crystal Tools development kit. They do a goddamn good job keeping things up to date, but there's only so much they can do as the skeleton of the game ages. "Spaghetti code" and all that, but it's true that it's an uphill fight to build on the game's original coding.

We don't even need to compare with the Unreal Engine 5 demo on PS5, Black Desert is enough to realize how dated the game starts to be. Even thought I like this game, it can't be helped, the game is technically old and can't hide it is somehow a "patch on a patch".

Not we can't have fun with old games (Disgaea 1 remaster looks pretty fun -dood-) but... Final Fantasy doesn't have this touch of crazyness; it is far too serious to get ride on the technical limits it shows more and more.

In terms of hybrid races, yes please but this goes behind a general character creator update that's overdue. First male buns/female hrothgar and make them appropriate (ie male buns are slightly smaller than their females, but look just as fair and dignified, female hrothgar are similar bestial)
Then a general character update (highlander brows, Au ra actually draconic and decoupled horns, sun cats claws...)

after that can be hybrids

Interesting to note though, in ff14 hybrids take more after their mother's race by far. Hilda and Arenvald. There was also an Auri female in sui no sato that fell in love with a hyuran man, the child had less scales than normal

I believe in a past interview, Yoshida mentioned that there will never be an overhaul and that it’s not worth it. The game has already been overhauled once and is doing well.

In addition, there’s nothing to suggest male viera are shorter, and I don’t see them changing au ra or any existing race. It’s super lame because they don’t look like their own art, but they already said they’re not fixing elezen proportions because they don’t want to upset players playing them so I doubt they would make a radical change to au ra. Especially after spending the time they have in and out of game to establish that they’re their own thing not related to dragons.

Taking after the mother is more technical limitations than lore. They’re not going to completely design a whole new body for 1 character that is not super important. The Garleans themselves are a mix of elezen bodies with unique heads or hyur bodies with unique heads, depending on the character. Otherwise I would like to think that the game writers are smarter than “hybrids take after the mother” because that makes no biological sense.

Adding (non/low intelligent) races that are not part of the Final Fantasy lore is out of the question.
