How do you view this game? :O

Like do most of you just log in to do dungeons and log off? Or do some of you plsy this like you would second life or IMVU? I was just wondering as I was doing a dungeon and thought back to when I used to play IMVU back in 2004ish. I always wanted controller support for it, not knowing that mmos existed, I only have and had consoles so I never got into Everquest or WoW of FF11. Those games didn't exist to me as I didn't know about them.

But yeah, I love the fact that XIV is a video game and has things that remind me of IMVU, I like the fact we can chit chat and kindof just stay online like it's another world or what have you. Am I alone in this and a lame or do others feel the same way or never thought about it? :O

Log in, do some instances, log off. Some days doing ex trials or savage with party finder when I have time and am in the mood.

There were periods I did other stuff too and immersed myself deeper in the game, but not right now.

I'm playing catch up so I play it pretty regularly right now. Once I catch up... not sure. That's honestly such a far off goal (at least what I'd call catch up) that it's kind of moot to think about.

I log in and stay logged in for a while. I do my daily dungeon run, maybe do some gathering and or crafting. Help my fc members run some things. Some nights have fc events planned like mount farming, ex clears, map nights etc. Or may just end up sitting around talking with fc members.

At the moment, I for one am stuck in a for-me-very-predictable schedule that's true for almost each evening--- as we're still in the middle of a patch-lul. x3

○ Tuesday / Wednesday = Playing with my Main for capping Tomestones

○ Rest of the week = Playing with my optional characters a ka Alts / Twinks to progress a little in their MSQs

I think IMVU FFXIV falls different category. I some times go VR chat just for chat but in FFXIV I barely write anything. I just play the game :)
I dont consider VR chat as game its just a chatroom with some customization elements.

VR chat different experience :) Chill people good for passing free time chatting strangers.

I kind of see FFXIV as a game with a lot of games in it. Which would make sense with how many features they add over the years. Like, you tweak somethings and Gold Saucer could be a one of those bargain bin party games if it had more multiplayer support. If you look at something like the housing system, for its faults it's more robust than a lot of games more dedicated to home decor. Similarly, while I love games like Style Savvy, glamour kind of scratches that itch.

Sometimes I do log on to float around with some babes in a hot tub or something. Other times I log on, do some roulettes or some PvP and I am done for the day.

I mostly play this game for the storyline, so I log in, do my expert roulette, change to whatever class I'm leveling and finish the rest of the roulettes and log off. I've thought about doing savage, but the community in this game is so very different than other MMOs I've played where you join a guild and raid with them. I mean, yeah, you have FCs, but I've never seen a raiding FC. People always talk about "static groups." Just like, I don't have any interaction with a static outside of raid times. I'm used to being in a guild and doing stuff with them and then raiding a couple of nights a week and, you know, being a part of a group. Most static groups I see want to raid every god damn night and want zero interaction outside of that raiding time and that just isn't something I am interested in anymore at this stage of my life.

I started playing for the story and the gameplay. I stayed for the community.

I was falling out of love with WoW around the time that my husband introduced me to FFXIV; I love story-driven games so he thought I'd like this one. He was right! On top of that, I found the gameplay to be fun and it had enough "side content" to keep my ADHD brain engaged.

Right around the same time I started playing, I moved abroad. The fact that I was thousands of miles from my family and friends, coupled with the language barrier (I could communicate effectively, but it was always a chore), and the fact that I was now a housewife with no job to go to every day meant that I suddenly had a lot of free time on my hands and no real social circle to speak of. FFXIV help to fill that void. I made a lot of friends in the game and got pretty active in the community. It was a nice way to feel at home even when I was in a different hemisphere.

Even now that we've moved back to the States and I'm working again, I think the community is a large part of while I'm still playing (even now with way less time on my hands.) I don't log in and play nearly as much as I used to, but thanks to the way the community has built up around and outside the game, I'm still pretty active in it. I write for Aetherflow Media, I participate in and ENTM, I've submitted glamours to Eorzea Collection, I'm in more than a half dozen FFXIV-centered Discord groups that do events and contests and just hang out to chat.

The great thing about the social aspect of this game is that it isn't just confined to the game itself.

I read the Bible everyday and almost everyday I play this game, when I log in I do anything from hunts to dungeons to glam to hanging out with others, I do almost everything except raiding, I even made my house in game into a fantasy style church, putting my love of Jesus into the game, wish I could get some kind of cross design for my house, that'd be cool.

A place to feel alive.

I enjoy the game for the most part, though I do wish it had a more pleasant community and that more content had staying power on a long term basis. I've mostly been playing other games lately.

With everything going on in the world right now, it's nice to have a place where I can just find bad guys and beat them up.

Not that I've actually re-subbed yet, the forums just haven't locked me out after the free login campaign ended. Strongly thinking about it, though (and also going back to Viera, since fantasias are on sale....).

As a game with incredible highs and far too frequent lulls. When it lands on a good piece of content, it can really keep you investment but when it misses, oh boy does it feel like nothing's going on for a while. I really wish content had more longevity to it since I'm basically logging in to cap right now and not much else.

Most of the time I view it through my glasses, but sometimes I like to play with my naked eyes.

I guess my view of the game is more like a social network that offers an entire world to play in, than vice versa. I normally spend my solo time crafting, fishing, at the gold saucer, or engaged in another low-key activity that allows me to "lurk" and watch who's online.My favorite thing to do is a weekly group event with the FC....so much so that I organized it myself despite my abhorrence of leadership roles.

Playing this game has been like reading a novel. AAR started a little slow, but Shadowbringers is back to a Final Fantasy game for me again. Combat feels rather like distraction a lot of times. On someday, I can count the things I've killed in one hand.

Much like other current titles, the game directors intend you to see it as themepark. Rather than push for a long stay, you turn up - ride your rides - and leave. What you remain for and get out of it amidst that is really just down to you. Ofcourse that has resulted in the 'luls' people experience in content; and that would be fine, if quality after the fact was always good or challenging. Sadly thats rarely the case. Which floats back into things seeming even more dead on the 'game' front. Story is pretty well delivered. It's no epic story, for those heavily familiar with Japanese mediums but its sweet enough and beats out its competitors in cohesive longevity.

Personally I have to build gaming around a busy life. At the dawn of the MMO golden era, I suppose I was pretty hardcore and ofcourse much younger. I played primarily only PvP (and the games then had barely any questing at all) so all in all, that fitted a very socially orientated and less game centric playstyle.

As we moved on story became a thing. Dungeons became much more intricate and well coded with dynamics. So you get that shift. If you see gaming as an investment in time and money, you are going to want to hit as many bases as possible and then gtfo in time for tea, so to speak.

On the social front, I am adaptable these days. If I really like you, I'll likely migrate you to being an actual friend from the digital F-list. So then conversation for me becomes more casual. As does game antics and moving away from pure 'productivity'. But at the same time, since most people have different hours, different backgrounds and ages (and so on) I just knuckle down and try and use the time as productively as I can when we interact and play more practically to progress when we don't (more relaxed).

If you are someone who needs to socialize here, I've found it can be like getting blood out of a stone from some. Meaning that its not quite IMVU material at all. Different expectations. But if you happen to find a good group, its like much else. You share the activity mutually and how much you play might be orientated purely around how much you enjoy their company.

There really is no right answer for me I don't think. The variable, is each individual I cross and the perception I get from them. I am in the camp of believing that MMO's are for the party, not for the lonesome. If it weren't I'd just stick to single player games with superior narrative. So thats going to colour my opinions on every element of the game.

Depends on my mood, sometimes it's just quick log ins and sometimes I spend whole days in game. Depends on how I feel/motivated to do anything.

I wish this game had funner "Side stuff". Dungeons can get old, the Gold Saucer is either to lame or to clunky. I wish the Square Enix would buy the dead "SolForge" game and add it to the Gold Saucer, that game was super easy super fun. The card game they have now is dead and way to annoying. The Chobo racing is meh. The minion game is meh. Even the events are just okay. That place has such potential, they should have their own version of "Multiplayer online battle arena" game like League of legends where you can play as your own hero. I do wish there were more reason to play FFXIV then just MB stuff and dungeons, and then gobble up what ever patch they release. I wish this was a one stop shop for all my gaming needs.

On the flip side if you are a completionist there is endless stuff to do.

FFXIV is my "background game."

That is to say, this is the kind of game where it feels like I'll always have something to do in the event that I don't feel like playing other games. When patches drop, the game steps into to the foreground somewhat, becoming what I play most for a few weeks before receding into the background once more. At that point I only log in 2-3 times a week and it's mostly to roleplay, which is something that has "freshened" it up for me, I might add. I think I've only ever stopped playing altogether (let my sub lapse without immediate renewal) somewhere in the 2.1-to-2.3 interval. Even as I started med school back in 2016 I didn't stop playing (though my playtime was severely reduced)... I was lucky that Stormblood dropped in between year 1 and 2. Shadowbringers early access also started on the same day I took my Level 1 board exam so... that's some timing lol.

Looking back, I've had a good time with this game. I can definitely see how people can come to revisit older MMOs (such as FFXI) if they'd been playing them for years before stopping.

I saw it as a means of building my social life but I'm not so sure about that anymore.

I play this game exclusively with my wife. It is her first MMO, and honestly her first real PC game.

We played a lot of coop games on the console, and started to run out. I built a new PC, and gave her my 10-year-old system. I suggested trying this game out as I like the FF series (even though I've only completed FF7!), and it showed up in a lot of "Top MMO" lists. She said she would play it with me through the end of the free trial (or until she got bored/confused), but here we are six months later still playing!

It is just a great way for us to continue playing games together. She loves her character, and enjoys all the glam.

We just log on and do a bit of whatever. The MSQ is really great, but we try to spread the love so we don't just rush through it all. We just wrapped up HW.

We visit the Gold Saucer daily, mainly just for Mini Cactpot. We sort of like running dungeons. We very much enjoyed the Hildibrand quests (still have the HW line waiting to start).

As a game that is by far currently the best MMORPG on the market, but that is also by far absolutely not perfect and still has tons of issue, flaws n simply bad designs/mechanics, in that are other games alot better than FF14 and far not feeling so outdated like FF14.

But its the total package around the storytelling, the FF typical humor and combat desings, that is convincing, plus that the dev team is here truly in touch with the community and TELLs us ectly, what is being planned for the game, and that already long before the content is there, so that you know as as player, about what you can happily eagerly wait about, instead of being left in the drk for ages through content draughts, because certain devs of certain companies are so feared about talking and communicating with their playerbase, that it brought the whole company close to the brim of extinction... I'm talking about Guild Wars 2 by the way... a once glorious game that a fled from to FF14, because with the dev stupidity of this game, they literally successfully destroyed themself over the course of the first two expansions and its horrible living story with basically the worst story telling ive ever experienced

By the end of the 2nd expansion and its terrible living story content, I was so bored, also because the game became literally unplayable in Pvp due to the worst ignorant game balang ive ever seeen in my life, that one day i had lost absolutely all my positive arguements I had once for that game, to stay there and not follow my friends that were all playing FF14 already at that point for 3 years, because I always had the hope GW2 returns one day to its previous glory, which it had before of the bad expansions.._ just to get repeatedly frustrated more and more and got enough, so I couldn't syy no anymore to my friends invites, when they went even so far to gift me the Base Game with the expansions, just to get me over to FF14.

Since then are soon 2 years passed, and I don't regret a single day since then. Those 2 years FF14 made way more fun, than the 6 years of GW2 before, despite of GW2 being technically the better and more modern looking game of the two. Good Developrs make the difference

I spent all day on it yesterday, though it tends to vary. I have a lot of fun here. It's less anal than WoW overall, and you don't constantly feel the pressure to push the envelope like you do with most other MMORPGs.

With my eyes.

This game is great. For the majority of the part I've been here, the game has been a great way to wind down and just enjoy the adventure. I find this game to be both a place to go to chill and do a relaxing run and socialize with people / hang out with the FC. The story has been absolutely phenomenal and I'm glad I got to experience it. There's also a very hardcore aspect to the game for people who want that for the change of pace. There are a lot of flaws to the game, but it helps that the devs recognize and take feedback from the community often rather than ignore it entirely.

I think mainly though, it's the game's community that has been really great. There's a couple of bad apples, or people may have a bad day or some sort, but mostly I've seen people be very positive ingame, and I'll chalk it up to the community and the devs who helped shape this environment. There's a level of transparency between devs and players that bridges that gap and distant feeling from just being any other game in the market. Every time I explore an area, go into an expansion, a new boss fight, I can feel the amount of effort put into making it, and it has astounded me how much consideration went into the game. It definitely has a special feeling that I haven't found other MMOs to recreate.

From content design to gameplay to community aspects, there's a lot that makes me view this game in a positive light and think this was time well spent for a recreational activity - and the adventure & fun never really seems to end - which is what I believe is what all MMOs should be striving for.

I played for story, RP experience, housing & glamour but the lacking glamours, terrible housing, trolling RP community & bland character creator has recently left more to be desired. When I 1st played FFXIV during the release of HW, there was an aesthetic to it but now it feels gone so I log in to keep my house but that's it.

As a member of the Crystal server. I tend to purposefully offer the RP component of it a wide berth, as they're heavily prejudiced in a multitude of ways. I did quit roleplaying completely in FFXIV after realizing that the community is less-than-friendly.

Other than that, I find the raiding, hunting and fashion community to be quite pleasant. Most of my experiences when it comes to PUG groups have been nice as well.

The writing of FFXIV is a 'your mileage may vary' kind of experience. I find it to be overall solid, but I do take issue with their difficulty to permanently remove a character from the narrative. I wish they took a page out of fictional works like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and relinquish a character when it's technically their time to go.

They also need to work on giving races more lore. They really only gave Dwarves - Lalafell - a decent amount of story and depth when it came to their racial identity and social structure. Then again, as a Lalafell, I appreciated what I got and ate it up.

I suppose they also gave Viera a spotlight while shoving Hrothgar to the wayside when it came to Shadowbringers. But I suppose I'm slightly biased against Viera because they're my least favorite race aesthetic-wise. I'm fine with their lore and their ties to Dalmasca.

Overall my view on the game is favorable. I just purposefully isolate myself from certain aspects of the community.

I view it as "I log in for my weekly savage clears and TEA prog". With hopes of that being done soon so I can say to myself "I've done it, I cleared an ultimate" so I can cancel my sub and play games that don't bore me because they treat their healers like trash.

I view it as a very bad lag game with lots of down time with no new big content added for months.

For me it's largely a game that I log in to actually do stuff in. I enjoy the story for the most part and find both the combat and crafting systems to be fun.

But I don't know that I find it interesting or exciting enough to just log in to for no real reason. I wouldn't, for example, log in just to go out and fight mobs or do combat content if there wasn't some sort of reward in it or if there wasn't a combat class I was actively working on.

And I definitely don't log in just to hang out with others either in character or out of character. My FC is full of cool people, sure, but I'm not going to log in to the game to to chat with them.

I don't need CONTENT but I do need some sort of meaningful goal or activity. If it's not there at the time then I'll just play or do something else. I don't feel like the game needs to magically satisfy all of my needs or really owes me anything.

See it sort of as my game of choice. Can play it if I'm bored, and I play it a lot. It was where I moved onto after bad break-up in FFXI, and losing out on some friends due to it. It took a few months to grow on me, and I've plunged myself into it pretty hardcore at times, particularly during Gordias Savage, but nowadays I'm pretty casual. RL taking precedence more often than not, though I still play so much that it would be considered unhealthy, imo.

I like it so much that I started a Let's Play of the MSQ, with some choice sidequests/job quests going into the recordings as well. The game itself has been largely positive in my eyes, helping me break out of my obsessive MMO grind shell, that I was full bore into when I was still playing FFXI quite actively. It's worlds easier to put down.

I do also view it with sorrowful eyes though. I feel like social interactions really suffer in FFXIV. The far more active combat, as compared to FFXI, means that there's no conversation really in the duties, battles, and you don't really ever go questing together. That's something I miss the most. Teaming up for Zilart, COP, TOAU, and WOTG missions. Talking things out, gathering up for teleports, lining up for D2s. Don't get any interactions like that in FFXIV. I think the closest was Eureka with a 4 seater mount, but that's optional.

All in all, I dote on this game. But somehow I won't be very sad when I put it down either.

the game had a huge impact on my RL, I met my fiance in this game and moved to another country because of it. I always loved the game before that, now tough I got a bit bored and my fiance doesnt play anymore, but the game is still important to me even tough I barely do anything. I know it sounds cringy and dumb but somehow this game is part of my life, its hard to explain.

Login for 2 days of raid then log off

i play this game for the story and for some friends but thats really about it, i feel the same is too homogenize with jobs and the battle system is very weak with scripts boss fights, very linear duegons especially ones that make me fall asleep when qued at lower level ones. The music, the story is great and if FFXIV was a single player game, i would still play it. FFXIV is a theme park MMO, i log in when expansion or new job hits, i log out.

FFXI has been my MMO and ive been having so much fun in Vanadiel, granted i started a year and a half ago but it feels like an adventure than my time in xiv, plus jobs really stand out from each other, i will say that it can be fustrating ( especially fight with Siren) but it fixes all the issues i have with xiv. hopefully xiv battle system can change next expansion( especially for healers) but my faith is slim.
