Change The Rules For Leaving Dungeons (aka Why People Insta-Quit Castrum Meridianum)

Nearly every time I have got Castrum Meridianum in Main Scenario roulette over the last few months, there is a player who leaves the dungeon before it even starts and it is becoming more and more ridiculous. Because as soon as one player quits, everyone else follows suit.

The rules for leaving dungeons need to be changed. There I am asking for a rule that I call the "Castrum Meridianum" rule. Make it so that at least 15 minutes passes before a player leaves a dungeon willingly thereby discouraging a player from leaving and that have to stay and support their party instead of continously abandoning them and making them either wait for a replacement or leaving the dungeon and forcing them to requeue, in DPS instances for a long time.

It's time that players of this game step up and help each other out. This is a game that makes you do that and if that is beyond your comprehension, then just stop playing.

I'd wager this will be a non-issue come 5.3. The devs are not oblivious to the unhappiness with which much of the player base regards Castrum Meridianum and the Praetorium. I will be genuinely surprised if their ARR revision todo list didn't include converting Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium into solo duties or light party dungeons.


But at any rate, it sounds like what you want to do is hold people hostage, and if you think that'll cause fewer attitude problems in the DF, you are quite mistaken.

And I'm saying that as someone who has not once in the history of the game ever left a duty at the start just because the roulette didn't put me in the duty I wanted. Forcing people to stay in a duty they don't want to do isn't going to fix anything. The people who would leave and take a 30 minute DF lockout now are the same people who have no reservations against idling at the entrance for fifteen minutes or until the party kicks them. What you ask will just increase nonparticipation.

Easy solution. Dont run MSQ roulette. I run MSQ 0 times per month on average(approx 0 times per year), and i almost never see people insta-quitting castrum runs(maybe once or twice for a fluminis).

No if ppl que for a roulet, then they have to deal with it. Id also say everything that has a 24 ppl que should force you in, if youre ready or not. Its the worst when you finally get a que for a raid only for one lousy dps not accepting and breaking it.

Also there needs to be something done about the ilvl cheese... you do a roulet, if you dont like it, dont run it.

IF the duty pops, and no buttons were pushed I would have no issue with it being a default ready. Forcing someone to wait to quit isn't that harsh. People in the party are forced to deal with someone being an B-Hole for a certain amount of time before they can vote kick him. If people can leave immediately, we should be able to vote kick immediately.

pls give the death penalty for leaving castrum

I'm struggling to understand why someone would hop into the MSQ roulette, *Knowing* how long and tedious those two dungeons are (the rewards are even boosted because of it!) only to immediately drop and take a penalty. If you don't want to run those dungeons... then don't.

I don't think any more of a penalty would help if players are already willing to take one if it means not running the dungeon. I'm hoping Rongway has the right of it, and the devs are working on a solution for either 5.3 or beyond. (Personally, I can think of at least 5 cutscenes that could be easily cut from Meridianum without affecting the story at the very least.) I don't remember if any other dungeons are included in that roulette, or I'd say more. I don't run it often for... obvious reasons.

In terms of gameplay, they aren't bad dungeons. It's just the insane amount/length of cutscenes that keeps players away. I can't think of any other dungeon where veteran players will just blow past mobs leaving the new players/anyone that dies to fight through them, just to get through it that much faster.

Tinker - No, there are no other dungeons in MSQ. The roulette exists to make sure ques pop for new players needing to clear Castrum/Prae for the storyline. They were also the two instances that generated the most complaints - experienced players abandoning the new players at the start and going as fast as they could. Said new players would either get stuck in a cutscene chain(the next one has been qued before the previous one ended, so you just watch movie after movie until the dungeon ends), or they would skip them but not be fast enough and get lost. The game didnt force you into boss arenas back then(it just locked you out instead), so the new players would invariably get carried through the instances without playing helping or experiencing any of it. Then they would complain. So unskipable cutscenes were a player idea that was added to make these better for new players - now you get to experience the dungeons. But that also meant less people were queing, so they had to up the rewards several times to get to an acceptable que level. Why do i explain all this? The instances as they stand now over-reward participation in both Poetics tomes and in Exp. But the problem is that not all the players want the same reward. If you want tomes, the shorter Castrum run is superior. If you want exp, the longer Prae run is the winner. If you want to have fun, its a different roulette. So people hop in hoping to get the instance that gives them the reward they want, see the wrong one(tomes seekers leave prae just like exp seekers leave castrum), and some decide to leave and try again. The only good solution i ever heard was making these solo instances with NPC helpers(probly with the Ultima fight pulled out as a trial for a group experience - they could honestly just make it ultimas bane since it isnt THAT tough). We know theyve considered this change, and also that it would be a decent amount of work to pull off. There are certainly quests getting cut/changed in the next patch, but if/when these are to be changed is unknown.

Its the opposite when a moogle event isn't on

Castrum could be made significantly less stressful by removing the invulnerability on the colossus, the first phase of livia and the searchlight cutscenes

Praetorium likewise could be much improved if they scrapped the cermet doors and hte magitek mount, and in doing so also eliminate the minor plothole of your magitek mount rescuing you after fry its circuits in opening the door to nero

That's actually not a plot hole. It's a tie in to the fact that you have a mammet core running that magitek armor, and while Cid says that diverting all power to that cannon shot, "may make the core expire." the point of it being your custom magitek armor from before is that because if has that mammet core, and is technically sentient on some level, it does not expire and comes to your aid. At least that's the way I've always understood it. On replays, I've become confused as to whether or not it comes after you on its own, or if it's Cid piloting it remotely using its camera feed again.

They need to revamp the MSQ into 4 man dungeons, it is not fun to sit around 20 minutes watching cutscenes you can't speed up, it not even fun the first time.

remove all the cutscenes and make it like an actual dungeon was what i meant, maybe split the second one into two parts because it is kinda long.
