Forced older content

Not sure why newer players are being forced into older content that yield zero incentive to go in there other than the proverbial "If you want to continue with this game, do this unrewarding older content." It's essentially a punishment. No one runs the older content. No one runs it more than once so there's no rewards. There's no player rapport built, no commendations provided. In my experience with the last bit of older content forcing, it's just hostility from the player community.

I might suggest avoiding the route Blade & Soul took.

You're mad you have to play the game you pay for?

Old does not mean bad. And older content does get touched up to not be bad.

It's no different from any of the modern content sans spectacle level.

Are you talking about Crystal Tower being mandatory now?
Why are you complaining about having stuff to do? It's not like you gotta run it endlessly if you don't want to. You can experience it once then move on with your life. Do you base all your decisions when gaming about the most optimal result?

Just enjoy the content. It's not like it'll even last that long, CT is faceroll these days. Besides, Alliance Roulette is a good exp source.

Honestly this is something that should of been in-game forever.. clearing old content to advance to newer content is just common sense.

It unlocks more dialog options, it gives you more understanding of the chrs, and it gives you more experience on your job in different environments.

If your someone who doesn't care for the story.. (firstly why are you even playing this game then?) Then your going to skip the cutscenes and move along anyways so it doesn't effect you at all.

You're exagerating.
Being precisely old content, it takes 10-15min per raid now to clear, ilvl being so high it make these raid easy.
And that's for story purpose.

Nothing to complain about really.

Besides, that's content player will eventually unlock anyway because of alliance roulette being a good xp ressource.

To add on to this, during the Live Letter, Yoshi P and a random crew did World of Darkness with normal sync to show how much of a faceroll it truly is. They wanted to do Minimum ilevel for all 3 but they wiped too many times during LotA and took too long overall. Because it used to be hard. They wanted to show that if they could do it under the harshest conditions, you could do it in its current form.

Boy oh boy was WoD a curbstomp. HPs just melted.

It's nothing new, the very first content patch update (2.1 A Realm Awoken) for A Realm Reborn back in late 2013 introduced this requirement where to continue in the Main Scenario the player had to not only complete the three hard mode Primal fights of Titan, Garuda and Ifrit, they also had to run specifically Sunken Temple of Qarn (NM) which is a fairly low level (high 30s) dungeon, and had to do the first five Guildhests.

Why was that? Because it was 'older' content SE had determined players were ignoring in favour of 'end game' (at that time, endgame was EX mode Primals and the Binding Coil of Bahamut) and SE were worried newer players just arriving would not be able to experience that content (as in, fill parties in Duty Finder). Bare in mind this was in the days before Party Finder was added, so it was a legitimate concern.

Either way, SE later reduced this requirement to do this older content to continue in the MSQ, although you still have to run Qarn and the HM Primals, the Guildhest requirement has been abandoned in favour of a instanced solo-battle with a malboro in Mor Dhona.

Given the Crystal Tower's story importance to the current expansion pack (both the Tower itself and a certain person connected to that raid), this is not surprising SE is now going to make it compulsory to complete those old raids in order to proceed in the story down the track (the alternate dialogue in parts of ShB if you hadn't done the CT raids was little more than a handwave and a not very convincing one so it makes sense this is being changed.). CT is hardly hard content anyway so I don't see the problem really.

That's how FF works. Theres a storyline. You have to play it to find out what's next.

At its simplest explanation, old content is forced when new content wants to build on the story, or some other need is required.

The Ivalice raids are required for the Lv80 relic weapons because it's a direct continuation of that storyline. (They well could have also forced the Omega storyline since that also touches on Cid's PTSD and has implications for MSQ as well.)

CT is being required because at very least, its optional status made certain parts of Shadowbringers MSQ more convoluted and less impactful, and they may have reached a point where the story they want to tell is too constricted by writing for that "maybe complete, maybe not" state.

And (if you're just seeing it as another listed quest people will be forced to do) My Little Chocobo is a two-minute quest unlocked at the GC when you enrol, and most likely being forced simply to ensure that new players don't walk past it and not realise they can get a mount now.

OP is clearly not talking about CT, as nearly every sentence would be lie then.

a) "No one runs the older content." would be a lie, as it pops up daily in my alliance run roulette.
b) "No one runs it more than once so there's no rewards" would be a lie too, especially when Kupo is up, but also for Anima-Weapon, Glamour and other stuff. Also see a)
Alliance Raid is what most people do on a daily basis, as it gives a lot of XP and stones - and most of the time you get CT.

Also it became a very important part of the story, especially in ShB.

At level 50 you have to complete 120 quests rewarding you nothing at all (in terms of exp since you are in the levelling process) and it will most likely make you hard skipping every cutscene etc cus otherwise it will take you like ten days to get through it cus its two years of end game content.I dont think it should get removed tho but get revised in a way (i made suggestions on a separate post) to serve the levelling process while providing all the cutscenes etc without killing the pace and demotivate you to even play the game.
After all FF14 is an mmorpg,having to do quests that rewards you with nothing at all but access to newer content turns the game into something else,this content served as an end game content 7 years ago,today having to deal with it at 50 level through the levelling process is problematic and it has to be revised.

In response to the OP, while being made to run content you do not have access to your full kit of abilities maybe annoying for you, this sub max-level content also forms the majority of the PvE content in the game. There is also the fact you will only ever need to complete these raids once, just like many of the low level dungeons you have been forced into by the story prior, and that the raids are frankly not that difficult overall, especially compared to more mechanically intense ones at higher levels.

No it isnt actually we are talking about a subscription based game where everything has to be optimal,when it takes you 7 years to revise something that simple is the exact opposite of what people describe as optimal,i didnt knew the msq were going to get revised anyways,that lefts all the people who is blaming us for asking the revision with no arguments,since not even the dev team is thinking that this content serves them with its current form...
I am happy for the devs cus this kind of changes will actually hook more and more people with the rich story content,as for all those ready to demonize and do the witch hunt when someone is questioning old content just that... haters gonna hate...
