People need to finally learn Emanation

I am sick and tired of getting Lakshmi NM every second day for Trials roulette with 7 people that have absolutely no idea what to do in any given situation despite having multiple level 80s.

Just learn the damn fight already, folks.

I just save myself a headache and pre-type Vril in the chat so I can easily repost it whenever a mechanic comes out that needs it if I notice people having trouble. Emanation has reached final LoTA boss levels of not trusting people to know what they're doing, so I'd rather just save myself the wipe and tell them instead. A simple 'Pop Vril <se.8>' is surprisingly effective. And when there's newbies it's not too much hassle to type out the mechanic during the phase transition if I notice they're lost, since it takes Lakshimi eight years to give her hugs of death.

@Enla - Don't forget that "stand at the boss when she goes to the middle, and hit vril" otherwise they probably gonna get blown off.

This isn't the trial that normally gives people trouble when I do trial roulette. It's castrum fluminis. The Moon mechanic, wheee.

It's trial roulette though, who knows when either is gonna come up, for some of them, it might be just their 3-4th time doing it.

People need to do a lot of things. Oh well. It happens.

Imo a fight is well designed if it usually leads to 1 or 2 wipes before victory, with PUGs. I don't want to play with NPCs but instead have to interact with players, overcome difficulties and see a bigger difference and variance in how the fight goes based on the party experience/skill.

Generally it isn't needed in my experience, but I do throw that out if I notice people struggling with that mechanic. ^^

Newcomers will either not notice it, forget about it when it comes time to use it, or mistime the use of it because they have no explanation ingame other than it's an extra action to perform.
Not only is it an extra action like many future fights have, but you have to manually charge it up, which isn't the case in many other fights.

So give people a break, it's a new curve ball SE has given us, and in the long run it's made fights a lot more interesting. So while people should have a basic idea of how their job works by that level they may be excused for having no idea how the Duty Action performs.
If you see it's someones first time all you gotta do is give them then unwanted tip of "Pretty your duty action when she goes to the middle so you don't fall off. Grab a light orb to charge it back up." or something like that and you're done. Those who grasp it will get it, those who are slower will learn the hard way.

I know when I first got to this part in the story, I stumbled a lot because I didn't know *how* to trigger the duty action. So there's that, too

But yeah, if they have multiple 80s, the most likely thing going on is that it's just been so long since they've done the fight that they brain fart and forget the mechanics entirely.

A mandatory tutorial guildhest that explains duty actions would be useful, I reckon.

In their defense I think that's the first Trial that actively uses the Duty Action Button for Vrill.

Should be easy to pick up, but some people (especially PS4) don't even know how to access it.

But yeah, what I tell groups is essentially "If you see an orb on the ground, push your blue button to use your resource and pick up another one."

It seems more likely to be part of the Hall of the Novice (which is basically the same purpose as Guildhests)

There is a Duty Finder thread my friend. Understandable to get frustrated getting the same instance several times along with incompetent peeps. Same thing has recently happened to me getting Castrum Fluminis twice in a row, twice. So basically four times out of the last six. Only one of those went smoothly. one run in particular was hilarious where her fans went off, and after they were gone, myself and the main tank were the only ones left. Brought back fond Titan HM memories back in the day ;p

From running mentor roulettes as of late, I've gathered that while telling people to do something is easy, them actually listening or doing it properly is another thing entirely, regardless of how simple it is on paper.

I learned how to do it, then took a break for FF7. Oops now I don't remember XIV. Expecting peak perfection is not the way to treat others who haven't seen the content since Raubahn's Wall.

A simple reminder after people mess up (as in let them make a mistake to learn that fire is hot) will not kill you. Or- and this is a big or, you can party with friends or use PF.

This is why if I load in I type out immediately in party chat "Pop Vril (action button) R3 for controller" ready to try and help anyone who is new but also for people who may have forgotten the fight, I honestly cannot expect someone to remember every single fight this game offers there are hundreds, as others have pointed out as wellit is also the 1st instance of said button (they probably should've had a solo instance use it 1st but hey ho it is what it is).

The reward for doing roulettes is due to the risks of getting random content and doing it with random people. Sounds like it might not be worth it for you, Mr. OP.

While it is the first Duty Finder instance to use the "Duty Action" bar, it is not the first instance to use it. The solo duty at Kugane to dodge the Sekiseigumi Samurai and get to the Ruby Bazaar is the first one to do so. The Duty Action of that solo duty allows you to be invisible (can be used up to 10 times) and avoid aggro from the Samurai [if you hit them, the duty fails. They can still hit you if they find you.]

OP's frustration is justified through and through. You have people that even if you told them what to do, they don't do it. The problem i see here is OP says they have multiple 80's meaning some most likely bought the Lv.70 manuals as well as the story manuals and skipped Lakshmi and now they are running it in the trial roulette so they are clueless. However personally i think for any content, especially older content, people need to watch video guides. I don't care if you want to experience the run "Blind". You will be wasting peoples time and patience by dying to the same mechanic/AoE's because instead of watching a simple video guide that explains the fight for you - you want to play dumb. And it's funny how these type of people get all so defensive and irritated when you ask them if they can watch a video guide because they keep dying and don't know the fight.

You think everyone should watch guides for 3+ year old story-difficulty content? I understand being frustrated with a bad group. I would even say that anyone who buys a booster should have to complete an appropriately challenging solo instance before they were allowed into any group content. But watching a guide for a 3 year old fight with one mechanic? Thats pointless. Hell, Lakshmi isnt even the stormblood trial people dont want to see. Susano was the one that i hated getting(the level sync is lower so some classes are missing important moves, and i saw way too many groups fail to keep up in the later stages of the fight as he speeds up), and Tsuku was the hard one(fans shouldnt be that hard to dodge, and the moon thing catches a ton of people off guard).

I actually see groups have way more trouble with Susano's first phase than the second. In the first phase, his tank buster doesn't have a charge bar, and it still hits pretty damn hard. I forget what his phase 1 tank buster is called, but I've seen loads of tanks just get straight up knackered by it, way more often than his phase 2 one.

It's Assail, and at some point in that phase, he uses it like a sucker punch move when other stuff is going on.

Holy shit, you mean we don't play in groups with robots?? Who knew!

DF cover charge is that you can't outline the specific skill and experience levels you want in your groups. You're going to get random people and random people sometimes derp. If that's not acceptable, stay with pre-mades.

The fight HP could be adjusted. It is extremly high for that level, already was during stormblood and still is. If you get a few deaths you could still stay like 15min in the fight.
Maybe it was tweaked for a certain ilvl, but it has no ilvl requirement so everyone and their mothers can join.

You arent wrong. Im just remembering every time i got that trial in roulette. Maybe 40% of the time everything was fine. The runs with issues in the first phase(for me) were less common, but usually solved on the second pull(whether it was a tank or a healer who made the change). The second phase i saw a lot of shaky healers slowly lose it and what seemed like a sure clear not quite get to the finish line... or shaky dps going too slowly so an ok healer eventually lost it(a single competent BLM can only cover for so much). A first phase wipe would be 2-4 minutes, and usually have an obvious sign of what needs to improve. A second phase wipe is usually closer to 6-10 minutes, and the solution is often "just do better this time". I can explain a botched mechanic, but by the time we've done an 8 minute wipe youve seen him use it 5 times already. You probly get what you need to do, the issue is doing it consistently for 10 minutes. But that was my experience.

I love Susano, that one is a blast. Have only run it a few times but never had a problem. Plus the dude has Charisma in Spades.

Snake Lady I’ve just the one time. Died once when she did the big glowy everyone dance thing. Someone said to use the thing but I apparently did so too late, or it wasn’t charged. How does charging the action work? I never even picked up on it needing to be charged and no one mentioned that. I kept using it after that on a bubble when I saw one, but that sounds like I was doing it wrong?

For the record the first Duty Action I recall seeing is the bazooka in the Diadem, so I at least knew what buttons to press.

Video guides are cancer and will you actually wait for someone to stop the roulette for those 7 minutes to watch said guide? It's roulette for a reason. This is not a Snes game, this is not a puzzle boss. It's content meant to be cleared by the lowest common denominator and if the group is killing you that much, leaving is totally an option.

I'm back to say that I just got this as mentor roulette. Had 2 sprouts and a returner in the party and we still 1 shot it.

In fact, I hate it. The trial itself is somewhat okay but people make it so much less enjoyable. And it does not really help that there is no minimum item level requirement for it. So you might as well see a tank with less HP than my okay-geared DPS.

As an aside, these forums are so contradictory. A few months ago in the Duty Finder thread, I was criticized for suggesting people watch a video for the new Eden raids. Because that’s what I did. It was brand new content at the time, so watch a video to help yourself get to know the mechanics.

The overwhelming response was “be patient, it’s new content. If it was older content, then yes, watch a video.”

Then there’s this post saying “you expect people to watch a video for 3 year old content? That’s pointless.”

FFS. Can’t win for losing.
