What's your ultimate goal in an MMO? What would you like it to be in FFXIV?

Everyone has their own definition of an ultimate goal. For some it's social, for others it's overcoming certain challenges while others it's an item or achievement.

For this discussion, let's keep it in terms of content.

What would be your ideal challenge in overcoming in FFXIV. How long (days weeks, months, year+ in line with relic weapons) would you like for it to take to complete said challenge. Would this be an achievement, a title, a weapon or piece of equipment?

Sets of Armor, each part requires something different.

EG: Helm - NM Drop
Body - Dungeon Drop
Leg - Craftable
Hands - Quest

ect ect.

I would also tend to like certain things that need unlocking.

Senses of achievement is what matters to me.

Being able to overcome an extremely rare and difficult monster, a world (multi-zone) roamer perhaps

Crafting guru...maybe...lol

No seriously. Just go at my own pace and do only the content I am interested in, may it be dungeons, primae, or whatever.

Also, finding and remembering all the lore in the game °-°
And screenshots, loads of them.

Relic Weapons

- Upgradeable
- Lowest Tiers slight downgrade from Primal Weapons
- Highest Tiers are Best-In-Slot

But make it in such a way that it does not require you to grind the same content over and over, but a variety of content. Make it more difficult than just doing a handful of simple quests (i.e. not like AF armor quests).

Magian Trials in FFXI were a good start, but I think they can go beyond "Kill X mobs during Y weather" or "Kill X NMs". As doing purely this promotes mob camping. Maybe incorporate team play through dungeons and beastman camps and reward players who invest time into it more-so than chance.

By having an "upgradeable" weapons system, you still make the earlier, easier to obtain tiers accessible to casual gamers, but the upper "best-in-slot" tiers given to those willing to spend the extra time.

As with Magian Trials, have the Relics able to be upgraded as the level cap increases.

To keep Primal Weapons still viable, make them have unique properties that have situational usefulness (Additional Damage to X type mobs) as well as have slightly competitive stats.

Exploration

I like to do things ingame that have a purpose. That's why I've never liked Leves... they're like "vending machine" quests; no story or backing behind them, really. They have descriptions, but are just such a vague and repetitive mechanism.

World Boss


(Let me preface this with: Due to technical server limitations this is probably not ever going to be possible. But one can dream)

When I say world boss, I don't mean roaming rare/popped HNM i.e. NOT Pandemonium Warden

I mean a server-wide event where a boss the size of half a zone threatens Eorzea and the entire server has to work together to take it down. Think God of War, but times it by 10, and add 2000 people in the mix.

Have people/factions/linkshells attacking various parts of the Boss in a loosely coordinated effort.

Have rewards based on contribution across the entire event (accumulated across days/weeks).

The opening cutscene of FFXIV is similar idea to what I am thinking but manifested into gameplay.

I would like community/group building exercises, like group crafting (either literally or otherwise a multi-step process like original +3 HQ crafting which required teamwork), bigger "raids" (If I may), and generally more group-oriented stuff.

I think it would be nice if they made Free Company halls non-instanced, and you could put yours in the zone somewhere of your choosing.

I don't know about "ultimate" goal. That's going to depend heavily on 2.0.

My big 1.x goal is WVR, CRP, GSM and LTW to 50 and make some awesome HQ materia gear for my THM, ARC and LNC.

Being a dancer
Being able to farm things and/or breed things ala Harvest Moon, etc.
Being able to craft things without having to sit at the keyboard like a monkey hitting a button

In other words, producing useful stuff for my guild without having to go kill things all the time. I really get tired of killing things all the time. Can't we have a social game with actual social elements?

Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And hear the lamentations of the women and children.

stealing the shell leaders girlfriend and causing the shell to fall apart from the ensuing drama. does that count ?

My ultimate goal is to become a story NPC.

If you look real closely in the Ul'dah opening scene, you'll see I had a part walking during the parade.

Mission accomplished.

@Auritribe: It does count. Even more dramatic when two different guild leaders are dating and you shatter both guilds in one move.

To be renowned as "that one guy that always has a snarky comeback in the shout chat".

I have a better one.

Creating a mithra and conning / flirting a poopsock player out of all his both in and out of game currency and possessions. Bonus points if you manage to do it claiming to be a foreign prince or princess.

To play for the long-term.

~ Make friends who I'll keep in touch with even if I stop playing the MMO
~ Being able to 'get into the character' to have that feeling similar when reading a good book (game world exploration also factors into this one)
~ Get my crafts up so I can customize myself and my ingame home alone
~ Perhaps collect endgame gear (def not a priority though)

Those sums it up for any MMO I play. I guess I'm prefer it more casual/laid back with some participation in endgame challenges (bosses, gear or other group events).

An adventure filled with quests, dungeons, places to explore, an amazing story and lore that draw me in, so good that at times it evokes an emotional response - a journey that culminates in an epic endgame experience, not the other way around.

Those are the things that leave me with lasting memories.

I want to complete all the stories, and when a new expansion comes out I'll complete that one too. Through adventuring is how I like to experience the game.

For my experience and memories of this game to be as great as they were for XI...with that being said there are a few things I would love to see: more vintage gear, maybe make them sets with bonuses, instanced and non-instanced content that challenge our abilities and use of job/class skills as opposed to throwing a million mobs at us...and enough content for the duration of the journey, lvl 1--cap (whatever it may be), the journey to endgame should be as rewarding as the endgame itself.

To drive those dirty sand rakers of our planet!.... wait wrong game.

I just want to have fun and enjoy my time with others who feels the same way.

Ultimately, im a hardcore ff fan so i would play regardless :P

My ultimate goal is to come across some great people and enjoy the road ahead together. Anything else is complete bs to me and it's not until I left FFXI and ventured to other MMOs that I came to realize this.

Ironically, it was XI that taught me to appreciate the journey.

This is like reading a book inside a book and make the story better than in book. Sad that I don't have time to read books anymore.

Almost the same, i define a set of equip as my goal, i don't care when i'll get it, that is the road to get to it that i enjoy the most (the people i'm with, the fun we get together). And when i get a piece of the equipment, there's a sense of achievement and i put my goal higher. badly actually, my only goal is darklight stuff, and waiting 2.0... not to much.

I want to kill the hardest things to kill, and be the first to kill them as well as the fastest and best at it. I want to run raids that only the elite can complete, defeat open-world HNMs before anyone else, earn the best drops from the most difficult dungeons, and overcome any endgame challenge that is thrown at us.

The timeline varies depending on content; some things I'd like to last a couple years, while others I'd be satisfied with lasting merely a month or two. There needs to be a balance to keep people from getting frustrated, but also keep us from getting bored.

I basically want work with my friends to earn a reputation as one of the best endgame LSs whilst joking around on vent.

Have a fully populated friends list with people I talk to on a regular basis.
Have fully populated Link Shell List full of people I talk to on a regular basis.
Have personally succeeded in giving cookiees to each and every person who deserves one.
Meeting Hildibrand and becomming his side-kick or partner!
