Annoyed with Patch notes for fishing...

Small rant but it's something that keeps annoying the absolute popotoe out of me!

" 5.X New fish have been added."

Well mfing WHAT FISH!? AND WHERE?!?! Our log doesnt tell us where fish are or what fish are where until we catch them! Hells it doesn't even show us where a location is until we fish in it... This information is useless garbage these fish could literally be in any water location in the entire game!!

Its nice that you gave fishers love with the boat... But in the end after being a hardcore fisher i see you didnt give fishers any love... The boat was only to give people a way to level up fishing. For the hardcore fishers it was a week of fun and then never seen again...

Give us a better log ffs. It wouldnt be hard We have a log book that gets filled when we catch a fish... Change that up so we can originally see all the fish in the game and just put a green check mark or ring around the ones we have caught and when you click on them it shows you just WHERE they are!! I dont need to know when i dont need to know what bait i can figure that out...

I know i get youll say "Just use Garland Bell or Cat Became Hungry." But i shouldnt HAVE TO use those... I should never HAVE to use a third party system to figure something out in a game. When you are literally forced to use Cat Became Hungry or something like it it means the systems you have in place for your game is bad...

You know the information on these websites are aquired by... going out and just fishing. :) You could just do the same and find out stuff by yourself.

Like, you see in your log on which fishing spots you are missing fishes and can just try to catch these. If your log is mostly filled and up to date you can easily determine where the new fish are added.

I don't see how its game breaking to at least have some transparency with fishing locations by saying a new fish has been added to a new location, but saying new fish in general when there is a crazy amounts of spots to fish is a bit messed up.

They've never told us about fish in advance. Or at least very rarely.
Part of it is the adventure of finding it ourselves.

But yet, why is it okay for me to install Shadowbringers, ding Level 70, and instantly know where to chop Lignum Vitae logs before I even step foot on the First? Heck, even Star-materials tell you what zone they come from, even if it has ??? for the location, you still know what zone they come from and if you just go there and wait, it WILL pop up on the map.

But I can't know where the new fish are gotten? Or even a hint?

How is that even remotely balanced? Especially when Fish are (usually) far less useful than the other crafting materials?

It's not intended to be balanced. Fishing is more of a side game for players who like chasing mysteries and figuring things out on their own than a full gathering class. That's why the information is hidden - to give them the mystery to solve.

If there's some useful fish needed by a DOH class for a recipe, they're usually found quickly and the information shared online within a few hours of a patch release. We can always read the tooltip for the fish from the recipe. Flavor text occasionally includes a hint about the general location.

"nah bro, the cart with missmatched egg-shaped wheels we have is totally fine! Having to constantly check 3rd party websites is part of the a d v e n t u r e!"
really makes you think...

I'd say fishing could be next on the "accessibility" list after crafting and MIN/BTN. It's clear from Ocean Fishing that they want to encourage more players to try it, but if players still feel it's too difficult and there are a lot of complaints, they'll probably start taking steps to simplify it.

Fisher isn't supposed to be sharing a balance with Botany and Miner.
Sounds like it's working as intended.

I just wish there was a way to see fishing spots like MIN and BOT can. Seems that the only way to find new fish is just to work your way along coastlines and stop at every puddle to cast 100 times to make sure nothing new has been added there.
Or, wait until someone else completes the fish finding chore and posts the results somewhere.

Which is great if you've caught everything else so all the other fish information is listed, allowing you to slowly identify where the new ones are as you go through the log hole by hole by hole until you find the missing fish indicator.

If you haven't, it's not very helpful with finding newly added fish.

It's not helpful for certain quest specific fish or Diadem, which don't always display in the fishing log. Sometimes the quest will give you enough information to nudge you in the right direction. Sometimes it doesn't.

It's not very helpful in finding specifically where fishing holes are to be found. Look at Sea of Clouds. It has 5 fishing holes. Can you look at a map of Sea of Clouds and automatically figure out where all 5 will be with no outside help or previous experience?

The fishing guide is even less helpful because the only thing it shows for missing fish is "There is nothing to display".

Players who fishing for years aren't going to have much trouble. It's the players new to fishing that are getting overwhelmed by over 900 fish to be discovered, with only a few dozen of them actually useful, and a lack of in-game information on where to find them.

That said, it doesn't negate my earlier point about fishing being designed for those who like to solve mysteries. Those who don't want to will have to rely on those other players to share what they learn on outside resources.
