Not sure what is happening, every time I try to connect to North American data center (Main Center is Primal) I receive this error. I apparently have no problems connecting to European data centers. I have been getting this error consistently today. I play on PS4.
Specifically what appears is a message box saying "The lobby server connection has encountered an error" Bottom right corner says "5006" And I have the option of pressing OK, then am kicked back to the log in screen.

Tried it one last time and got on, no clue what changed.

Same here, PS4 user on the Crystal server. Though I have had problems each and every day logging in for at least 8 months, not always just 5006. Ever since Shadowbringers launch...well very shortly after...and I got a newer PS4. If I wait 10 sec before selecting something during log in it will give me a 5006 and automatically disconnect/not connect to the PS Network. Requires a full reboot every single time. Also happens if I wait 5 min to start up XIV from the main menu.

Error 5006 Primal Data Center.
Getting the same 5006 error; Aether data center, PS4. Was able to login with no issues this morning.
Edit: After 30 minutes of repeat trying, I was finally able to get on.
I am also getting this error. Originally my Character on Crystal showed up but when I went to switch to Aether, which is where my main is, I cannot log into either character. Get the same error. 5006. Logged in fine last night.
NOTE: should specify that I can log into the game, but not access the datacenters. Crystal or Aether.
EDIT: can access my character on Crystal but not Aether.
Going on to an hour here, still not able to access the data center. Wouldn't mind knowing what's going on, not seeing anything officially posted anywhere else.
I was on this morning around 6:00 with no problems. This afternoon though, not so much.
Same. I am getting in but it's taking a few tries.
It has been persistent this afternoon. This needs to be addressed. 5K and 6K errors left and right.
I thought the problem was on my end. I've been plagued with 90002/6 errors all day. Then around 3pm est I couldn't get in at all due to 5006 errors. Reinstalled my game with no change. I'm on PS4.

I seriously thought this was all on my end, but I'm so surprised to find out that this isn't a problem I'm dealing with uniquely. I've been able to play until around 7PM and then I get CONSISTENT 5006 errors and I nearly had a fit.
EDIT: I'm a PS4 player myself and I thought this was just PS4 or just me exclusively, but apparently not!
Same issue here. Tried to login several times earlier today to 5006 errors then several times in the past hour to the same. Also a PS4 user.
It was mentioned earlier, but I'll just throw it back out there. I've been getting the PS4 5006 lobby error since 7pm CST, still happening of course. For kicks I tried logging in on Windows also (this was what was mentioned) and same crap different code there...6001 if I recall correctly.
Oh well, I'm giving up for the night to get logged in. Just have to see how it goes tomorrow. If it persists, with all the other troubles I've had since about late July, I'll just focus on a different game.
UPDATES
Logging in for me is a complete no go and it's been happening for a few hours now. After coming off of such a long hiatus, I was hoping I could have lots of fun...and I did until this happened.
I may have to give up until tomorrow morning to see if I can log in then. If not...well, I'll find something else to do until things return to normal.
EDIT: Wait, I actually got in now...what changed I have no idea. We'll see how long this lasts.
Now I'm getting error code 6001. Still can't login. I'm on a PC.
Friend who cant seem to get on forum either, also responds error 5006 on Ps4, cant login to Jenova(Aether). Has been happening all day.
Zelphi Mizuki From the Jenova Server, i have tried multiple times logging in on the PS4, to no avail and even swapping over to a different server and then switching back i will still get the 5006 error code i have even reset my wifi and it has yet to fix the problem thank you for listening to my complaint
I was having this issue a few times. The times I was able to log in it was because I changed data center to something I don't use, backed out to the main menu, switched back to my main data center and then proceeded to log in. It worked both times I've done it and I've heard other people having this issue have tried this.

Had same issue trying to logon Gilgamesh. After about 7 attempts it connected. Weird.
The only way I could fix it was log to a different server and then back. This is not the first time this error has happened. SE needs to check into it.
I've been getting 5k & 6k lobby errors all day. I play on PC. Doesn't matter which data center or world server. And I have to try multiple times to try to get past the lobby errors.
Still having trouble logging onto the Primal and Crystal DC on PS4. This is a bit worrisome considering the first part of Hatchingtide ends this Sunday.
i have been hit with 5006 error as well and just keep getting kicked to title screen
This is out of hand. I had to log in like 5 times to get through this error the first, got into playing, queued for a leveling roulette and got kicked out halfway through. Now I'm trying like crazy again to get back in, but I'm honestly thinking about giving up for the night because I'm having no luck. I wish we could report this more effectively, but right now is wild times. And it's only the NA servers from what I've observed. I can go to any of the other servers with 0 problems.

Just got this error and I was able to login after switching to a different data center(My main was primal), logging into the character selection, Logging out and switching back to primal
Didn't seem to work for me. Gave me the same error when I tried to switch to a different data center.
likewise, 5006 as I attempted to log into any of the NA centers, tried JP and EU and was able to log in instantly. After 10 attempts to log into NA center back to back was finally allowed in. Now playing the game without issue. Currently know my friends are having same said problem.
I’m getting it on PS4, what’s weird is that sometimes I’ll log in and sometimes I’ll be booted out, a few hours ago I managed to log in after a few failed attempts but now it seems like I can’t get in at all.
