Has that been revealed already?
What does GD know, please inform me.
No, he was undercover for a bit trying to learn more about them but no he's not an Ascian.
Keep playing, all will be revealed.
But if you want it spoiled:no he's not. He's just an exceptionally talented liar. ;)
No and he doesnt share their ideals.
The man just loves his pranks. >.> <.<
Later on in Shadowbringers, you learn more about what the Ascians actually are. If you were ever having a hard time telling, it becomes pretty clear then that Urianger is definitely not an Ascian.
What are you guys on about. Urianger is Lahabrea.
if he was then id have to find a new fav npc no joke ._.
Nah. He's just shady, appearing when you least expect him and masterminding schemes while speaking in a peculiar dialect.
...wait a minute.
Yes and no. We learn the origin of the "original" Ascians, but they're also able to raise up new mortals to join their ranks. As far as we know, only Lahabrea, Elidibus and Emet-Selch are/were originals, and even the rest of the red-masked overlords are replacements.
This may well have been what Elidibus was aiming to entice Urianger into, but he got outplayed - and thank goodness for that, because I think he would be incredibly dangerous as an enemy.
Wow GD for the win, thanks for the insight
No but he is a Redditor
'General Discussion' forum I presume he means... unless it's referencing some obscure meme or injoke I know nothing about. *shrugs*
He isn't, sadly.
It would have made for an interesting plot point for a close companion to the Warrior of Light to turn out to have been an Ascian all along as a sleeper agent designed to sow the seeds of chaos behind the scenes and report on the Warrior of Light's actions. It'd have been a lot more engaging than the Yda/Lyse twist.
You cant imagine how much i would have hated that. I absolutely hate and despise traiters. End result would be me either quitting the game altogether, or me just skipping ALL story and the whole arc just wouldnt exist for me.
A traitor to some is a defector to others. The reverse is true as well.
A lot of people blur the line between what an Ascian is and what it means to be tempered. The Ascians were deeply tempered by Zodiark. Sure, that kind of influence locks in a near-absolute loyalty to their cause.
And yeah, a number of them, the big names especially, were unsundered. But that doesn’t mean the whole group fits neatly into one mold.
There had to be others. Supporters of Hydaelyn, or people who just didn’t pick a side at all. Nothing splits cleanly into binaries like that. Nothing ever really does.
That’s where Urianger comes in. It’s not hard to imagine him as an Ascian who wasn’t tempered. The ones who were sundered died, came back, and lost everything. But those memories aren’t gone for good. The crystals tied to each office can restore the memories of the holder of that seat. And if those memories are tied more to the seat than the individual soul, then in theory, anyone stepping into that role inherits what came before.
At a certain point, basically everyone was an Ascian. So what happens when someone starts to remember, even if you're fragmented? That kind of thing would change how you see everything.
I can see the Ascians reaching out to Urianger. Maybe they nudged something loose. Maybe he started connecting dots rather than just having been convinced as an interested third party. That could explain why he sided with the Warriors of Darkness for a time. NIt wasn't a full conversion... just walking a line. Half in, half out, operating as a double agent. A demi-Ascian, if you want to call it that. Someone who has some of the echoes of a past where he stood apart instead of choosing a side.
Or maybe he leans their way as one of Venat’s people. She didn’t temper anyone into complete obedience, unlike Zodiark. She trusted those with the Echo to act on their own terms.
Either way, it leaves room for something more going on with him. I wouldn’t rule out the idea that he’s another Ascian on the inside, one working toward his own goals. If so, he's one who was able to let go, unlike many of the rest.
Why the heck are you shitposting?
Simple answer: This subject interests me and I'm still suspicious of Urianger. :3
He's European
He's just very old, so he knows everything. he is 29 afterall.
He's a disciple of Shakespeare.
He loves to hear himself talk a lot of big words without ever getting anywhere. That's definitely an Ascian characteristic.
Not an Asian, but he has a tendency to go off and do things without consulting anyone else. He claims it's for their own good, and to spare them from hard decisions; but he really needs to learn to trust his friends.
