I don't know the names of most of the skills in the game, even on jobs that I have played for years. When people start talking about skills and rotations and they abbreviate everything (PS, DS, XQ!) I often have no idea what they are talking about.

I've only ever played Black Mage, like all the way back from when I got into the beta servers or whatever they were for preordering FFXIV:ARR...
I didn't know Freeze was so good, I played years with it completely off my bar and only when coming back from a break last week or so someone told me the proper AOE DPS rotation had Freeze, so me being an idiot just ignored the advice until AFTER the dungeon was over and then tried out in Copied Factory, they were so damn right... If you're out there, strange party member in Mt. Gulg that told me how to play my class right, I'm sorry for not listening right away, Freeze is great.
That's nothing to be ashamed of. It's actually a common occurrence in human memory. It's the reason why when you watching a rerun of a show, you can suddenly recall the dialogue. Your mind has compartmentalized the information and is bringing it out when something requires that specific information.
That's why when playing a job you'll have no issues, regardless of the lack of names, because you recognize the information required to play the job. But in a conversation you might not pick up on the subtleties. I for one always confuse Wildfire and Flamethrower's names.
As for my confession...
I think I hoard in game because I don't have much irl, so a virtual piece of trash is for some reason important to me. Since I never know when it might have a use, T.T
My confession- it took me a level to work out how to spend my rdm mana bar as I accidently deleted the first bit of the sword combo off my bar when setting it up
I don't know the names either. I just know what the icon looks like, where it is on my bar, and when to use it.
I look for and prefer visual class guides because lists of abilities to use by name don't help me :P read one blm guide that was like f4 f4 f4 b4 yada yada for the entire rotation and I swear my eyes glazed over immediately
Crafting w/o Collectable Synthesis on.
:(
My shameful confession, is I've only started melding materia to my gear at level 80, having been playing since 2011 in 1.0 I completely ignored it for all those years til now (I did help I that I don't do endgame, but still). Before then, whenever I ended up with materia or had a piece of gear fully Spiritbond I just sold the materia on the MB and didn't use it myself. That's a different story now...
This one time, in Deltascape 4.0 Savage, we were doing it and then during Decisive Battle where the tentacles come out of the ground, I ran the opposite way after the knockback and ended up dying (I'm tank). I ended up leaving the party out of shame. The end.
Emanation, "Everyone use Vril." Me, "wth's Vril." Apparently because of my configuration settings it was hidden. I died, over and over. I skedaddled out of there as quick as I could. Settings are fixed in case it comes up, but.....not likely to choose that one.
I run into walls, boulders, etc...more often than I should, especially in crowded areas. Not a good look for me.
In my previous FC I told the GM he should have pulled out if he did not want a child--he was complaining about becoming a father, and was saying things like without the risk it is no fun--later that week he said that his GF had a miscarriage and I felt awful about what I said since he was apparently broken up by it. Though I have a hard time reading people I found six months later that they had the kid and it was all just a joke about the miscarriage. Embarrassing part was I was the only person in the FC that did not know catch on that they were joking. So I spent all that time walking on egg shells around people in the FC and the GM.
I will just stop my character wherever to type extensively in the in-game chat and often end up creeping other players in hubs out by stopping right in front of them or even on top of them for extensive periods of time. :x
I had PLD at level 60 for all of SB and because of the new mentor requirements and to get the complete role story dusted him off to get to 80. Despite deleting my hotbars and going through the abilities from 1 to 80 and adding them all to my hotbars I got all the way to 74ish before noticing that I had somehow missed the existence of Prominence entirely. An offhand comment someone made in a forum post about an AoE combo made me go look at my abilities again. Never had any issues with enmity without it but my dps sure went up a lot.
Oops!
I spent 50 dollars on fantasias this month, just to switch back to the viera, I switched from for a couple weeks last month. So in total 60 dollars, and probably more when I inevitably decide to switch again over something minor. Not only that however, haven't played the game for going on a week and a half (which means I don't post here), and am contemplating cancelling my sub until the next patch. So a complete waste of money, not even playing my character.
I once had a huge crush on a poster here. They don't come around anymore though and we never actually talked to each other either. Their posts always got my undivided attention and was always a good read.
That doesn't strike me as embarrassing; it's more sweet than anything. It's a shame this forum doesn't have a DM feature, but I'd honestly never trust the mods here to properly police such a feature.
On topic, I've been playing this game since ARR and it took me until late last year to realize you can PvP for a GC other than your own...
I don't enjoy healing other players in PvE content. As such, I level my healers entirely through PvP. It takes longer but it's the only environment that I find enjoyable to heal in.
I unlocked small aetherical shards in main three capitals (those that are used for teleporting between different part of the cities) on 50th level. For about 3 first months of playing the game I ran between zones in main cities only manually and honestly hated them. I still have some hatred towards Limsa Lominsa honestly. And also still sometimes forget to use shards.
This reminded me of how I spent the first like, year of playing this game not knowing you can teleport to big Aetherytes from the map. Mind was blown when an FC mate pointed this out. I'd been opening the menu every single time even when I had a map linked from chat open lmao
Aww that's sweet. And it happened to me aswell. I was pretty new to the forum and always enjoyed their posts. They seemed really nice, I liked the way they wrote and it was always an entertaining and good read.
It took me forever to unlock flying in every HW and SB area. Let's not even start with ShB. So whenever my friends wanted to do a FATE somewhere, they had to chauffeur my ground-bound ass there.
Whenever I started unlocking the aether currents, I always got distracted. I was close to one, then noticed a node, then noticed something else, then noticed my retainers were back etc.
I don't get sidetracked that easily with other things ingame but with aether currents it was as if I had suddenly lost all brain capacity and couldn't remember for a measly 5sec what I really wanted to do.
When I see a cute pet, nice glamour or nice looking character, I follow them around just to look a bit longer. Which resulted in me following someone around the whole Limsa for several minutes becaused I loved looking at the little Laladile waddling its way through the crowd.
When I started Astrologian, I heard about Lightspeed, thought it sounded super cool and was excited to keep playing until I finally unlocked it. One day, going into my 60s, I actually look at the actions I still haven't unlocked and can't find it. Can't find any traits that make it change from something else.
Oh. It's a starter action.

In my defence, this is easier than you'd think with the jobs that don't start at 1.
A confession: I always desired to be an Ice Mage. I sought to channel that through Black Mage, but players who did so are always met with scorn and vitriol. I was devastated. Eventually, I learned of Blue Mage and of its own ice abilities and spells. Now I can become the Ice Mage I've dreamed of!
I changed my name to Server Malfunction last night.... and today in deep dungeon I DCed like 3 times. :/ Fuck Suddenlink.
Confession time for me: When I started out in ARR as a ninja, and FFXIV being my first mmo, I wore caster equipment until level 30 because I thought it looked cool. When I later on realized stats actually mattered, I was pretty embarrassed about it. :'D
I tend to know most of them by keybind.
So DRK core AoE rotation.... that's 7 then 8.
one-shot Tank buster coming up? hit Control-3.
Minor tank buster coming up? Hit 5 or 6.
Big AoE need mitigating? Control-5
Slowly been learning the names this expansion just so I don't get confused when people say "I got the next Reprisal" I know to NOT hit Control-5... :P
(What's worse is all my keybinds are absurdly random based on things I set into my Razor Nostromo almost a decade ago in WoW... so '7' is as easy for me to hit as '1' as they right next to each other...)
I didn't know that gen Z were called Zoomers until yesterday!! :o
I never beat an EX-Primal before echo was added to it, which made me quit trying to them all together. (I'm bad at this game:()
I've been playing for roughly 6-7 months with the camera zoomed in on my character. Somehow, I managed to survive for the most part. Then came Titan EX (Pony farming with friends) and I'm always off the platform cause I can't see the hecking landslides.
So after like hundreds of runs, we all get our earthly ponies.
4 months later, I find out that I can zoom out the screen.
I also have a few crushes on this forum cause I'm a loser who crushes very easily. It sucks cause I'm sure all of them are taken.
When I started out I had no idea where my minions were going. When I saw "Minion Guide" I... well, imagined it was just a guide. You know, something you read to get information. Eventually I hit my 30s and clicked it to find out, hey, it's actually your minion collection. Figure it would just be called "Minions", and mounts, "Mounts", rather than Minion Guide and Mount Guide.
Be like the troubadours and love the ability to love! At least, it means the community has a lot of awesome people you can enjoy being around and share company with which is always nice. ^-^
1. I found out through this forum you could check mb information for items you plan to sell with your retainer. Before then, I'd run back and forth between the bell and board to figure out how I wanted to price things.
2. I'm usually pretty cheap and will sometimes travel places by mount instead of using the aetheryte. I just found out I could travel from Gridania to Ul'dah for free going through the gold saucer. I've made that trip on mount so many times and now I can do it with just a few clicks, lol
Lol, with all these crushes being mentioned, someone should make a confession thread.
Crushes on people, on THIS forum? That's definitely worthy of the thread's title.
Just yesterday I bought the demon outfit out of the mogstation for my DK. I thought the wings were separate because they named the torso piece "wings". I didnt read the rest of the list of items because i was excited the wings were listed and therefore thought they were separate. I despise wings in games where they arent functional and dont have supporting lore of some kind. TF im gonna do with this waste of 18 bucks now?!
There's enough of this FEM ROE to go around. :)
There's Something About Anie sounds nice.
