Uldah has become very crowded and laggy. It was bad before, and now its a nightmare.
A simple solution is to make so shouts in Uldah can be heard in Limsa and Gridania.
Another solution is to make a <recruit> shoutline that can be heard system wide.

Im for this as a temporary solution until 2.0 comes out as i have no doubt 2.0 will bring a "jeuno" with it and im sure (or hoping) the dev team is getting ready for all that congestion. I would like to go see the other nations and not miss chances to do primal runs or any of that other fun stuff and for those out there that are gonna say "stop QQing and use search" or "if you don't like the game stop playing it" how many of you opt for shouting over using the search function?
This would be a good idea... if not make the shouts in cities heard in all other cities at least maybe add a speaker/megaphone type thing that you can stand next to and the shout gets relayed to people standing around the speaker/megaphone in other cities. We could even add the speaker to Inns with the option to turn it off.
Other alternative is just some global channels that function as an extra /shout i.e. /global or /recruit etc.
Well that's nasty of you.
Nevertheless I am undeterred.
Actually I like this idea quite a bit, people can stay in whatever town they want and still find parties for things.
World Recruiting (Yes, Please).
I'd much rather craft in Grid and watch for shouts than be forced to wait in Ul'dah.
I don't see a problem with this, especially if it's put in its own channel that can be hidden/shown, thus allowing anyone who doesn't want it doesn't have to see it, and anyone else that likes or is indifferent can have it.
As for the painful comment, only wish unto others as you want unto yourself.
I love limsa but its too much work and money to travel back and forth for a chance to find what i need :/. If they showed shouts from ul'dah id be able to hang there and still be able to accomplish things.
I'm with the majority above. Being able to do things in Grid (my HP) while listening for parties in Ul'dah would work for me. Having the option to turn them off would be nice also.
A global channel would ad alot of convenience to the game
Here's the simple, canonical answer.
Each of the major media outlets could open up a public forum in the likeness of a linkshell, allowing posting of city-wide news (e.g. party shouts). One could use the forum when in a city to make a public announcement, and anyone could listen in as long as they were somewhere in Eorzea.
Set it up in the chat filters and use it similar to a linkshell (only difference being "write privileges" only allowed in town), boom problem solved in a completely logical way.
Actually, wasn't something similar to that being planned for 2.0? I get the sensation that, akin to the linked market wards, a unified shout channel is probably out of their technical boundaries.
I think that as it is there aren't "chat channels" and more "everyone at X range hears you" with Say and Shout, whereas Linkshell and Party probably use a similar system. I am unsure how capable they are of adpating the LS/PT system for a global shout and wether or not it is actually worth the development time to implement that.
I support an LFG channel!
I world wide LFG channel that can be turned off by those who don't want to see it would be nice. I would probably turn it off unless I was bored like yesterday when I answered shouts and went along with random people to get AF pieces and such.
I would rather be out chopping down trees and still able to see LFG channel vs standing in town.
We do have a search and LFG function on the main menu...if only people would use it you would never have to worry about seeing shouts from Ul'dah...IJS!!!
I don't think this is a good idea. Some other games have tried that and it has failed BIG time.
Well, I was listed in the search that I was available as whm/blm for anything and the shouters were not finding me that way. I would like it if they did and it would resolve the shouting issue too.
I agree it would be nice if more people used the search feature. I use it. Unfortunately most people do not and they are not going to. A simple lfg channel or a expanded shout channel is the simple solution.
Currently, we are unable to implement a shout between all of the city-states because it would make the servers become more laggy due to the increased number of players being added that are receiving the shouts. However, we know that this is a much desired feature, and as such, we'll definitely be keeping in mind as we move forward. :)
Yeh, add it in 2.0 when the servers can do it, if you still cant do it then, then you're doing it wrong, cuse its in other mmoz lol.
Shouts arent necisarly the issue, although i would agree that A "global channel" would be nice. The main reason everyone gathers in Uldah is the wards. When the global Economy is forced to be focussed into one spot , people tend to gather to that spot due to convienence of purchase/sale. The real fix would be a "global Item search/purchase/sale system" not unlike FFXI Auction houses. It is my understanding that SE wishes to re implament the AH , weither or not it will be global is unsure, BUT it would be a smart move on SE's side to do so, this will allow freedom to stay in any city of choice without any real inconvenience. However keep in mind, grand companies will still be based in cities as well as Quests and such , A little exploring dosent hurt anyone. Also If we get so lucky as to get actual physical housing, I'm sure there will be little to no way to make access to those (aside from house moogles) global.
Rukkirii:
Webserver using nodejs/socket.io can run ~500 people easily with 50,000 lines of text getting pumped through every minute :) I also would like to point out that this could be solved a bit better if the chat was physically blocked from memory perhaps per user setting?
The chat you see on your screen is always there, even if you turn off or hide the chat so that wouldn't solve the problems mentioned by lag.
Create a city called Jeuno. Problem solved!
I say keep shout the way it is and make a Trans-city channel, that way people can turn it off and keep shout open. The best I have heard about getting people into the other cities,to stop congestion, is; "They should make your GC or Home city tax free in wards, that way people would be more likely to visit the other city's to make purchases and sell things." I'm sure there may be some things to work out from the idea, it does have a promising start though. :D
Rukkirii,
Thank you for replying. I really appreciate all the work you all do. I would challenge you that if ancient MUDs (text games) run on early 90's computers with thousands of people online at a time, could have world-wide shouts, there must be a way to make it work.
Again thank you.
Im sure its been said but a Global Chat channel? Would that cause the same issue?
I just want a global looking for group channel that I can join/leave as I please. In fact, it could just auto join you when you're LFG and auto leave you when you get into a party. It could be another incentive to using LFG and if lag is an issue, this would cut down on the amount of people using it at any given time.
