Is it considered account sharing if it's via demonic possession?

Hypothetically, if your body were to be possessed by a demon, and said demon were to play FFXIV with your service account, would it still be considered account sharing? Is the account holder considered to be the soul or the body of the being who created it? Asking for science purposes.

I hope you get an official answer to this question!

Considering you're asking a legal question and there is no legal precedent I'm aware of for "demonic possession" absolving someone of a crime, i'd say as long as it's your physical body playing the account, SE sees it as you playing. It's possible you could chalk it up to mental illness or some other "insanity" defense, but as far as the company is concerned your meat suit is you.

What about if a ghost logins into your account and starts playing.

That's...actually a pretty good question, all things considered. No idea. lol

Kor-Virliath of the 18th Hell Dimension doesn't get account sharing privileges until he pays his share of the rent and does the dishes.

Does SE take account sharing action against accounts that have been hacked? Based off the movies demonic possession seems akin to getting hacked. So maybe they would not consider that account sharing.

I think you'd have to prove you've been possessed by a demon, and would risk spending the rest of your days in a mental health institution.

Btw- you're not going to be able to play online game at such a place, so you won't have to worry about your FFXIV account ever again. Win win.

But Ascian possession is, strangely, allowable for account sharing.

Rules are for mortal beings, so a demon using you is clearly not a violation of the rules. In that case, anyway, you have higher worries than your account status.

What about having a dissociative identity disorder and sharing your body with multiple personalities. Does this count as account-sharing?

Aren't we all just souls possessing a body? Technically we already are account sharing.

What if you have your own inner demons?

Account Sharing isn't merely the act of having someone else use your account.

It's the act of enabling someone to use your account in addition to yourself.

This also precludes things like an account held in someone elses name being used by a single person (Due to often a Parent/Guardian being named on the account because it's their credit card paying for it, while the child is the one that uses the account)

Thus, "Demonic Possession" would only count if you willingly gave the "Demon" your account information and so let them access your account.

I've actually wondered this a lot, like what it a GM were to see someone with DID referring to themselves by several different names/acting very differently all the time?

Like many things in the grey area of "ToS technically says it's not allowed but nobody will go out of their way to enforce it unless you actively force their hand by being a dum-dum" sharing your account with a demon/ghost/alien symbiote/etc. buddy (or your human host if you happen to be one of the above and were the original creator of the account) most likely falls under the "don't ask, don't tell" clause, alternatively known as "live and let live". As long as neither the host nor the hostee do anything that would get either of them reported or otherwise call the attention of a GM, one is unlikely to face significant risk of exorcism.

Should a GM get involved, however, the outcome is likely to depend on their individual tolerance for nonsense.

I'd say if you allow the demon/spirit to do it, yes it's account sharing. If they forcibly possess you to play, it's account theft, even if temporary.

I Don't get how anyone is taking this seriously. SE obviously doesn't care as long as they get cash and you don't complain about getting account stolen. Like really its not even a big deal rule its just at your own risk the other person could do or say something stupid and get you in banned. As in your account is your responsiablity if you choice to do that or something takes over it still happaned on your account unless you prove it got hacked or something its still your fault.

I let the demon do whatever and after a day of inhabiting my body they left because of how miserable it was :(

The demons kinda popped in, took a look around, and asked how in the endless pits of hell I could live like this. I told 'em that you just kinda get used to it.

What if it's multiple possessions? Would it be a 'first one free' situation on the policy? Would we get extra penalized for multiple users if our body is a demonic timeshare?

Since the status and well-being of your immortal soul is your own responsibility, I'm going to file this under "account sharing" as it would be akin to being careless with your passwords and who you share it with.
