I think SE should let us make shorter Elves like Alphinaud

I really like Elves, most of my DnD characters have been Elves, but I dislike the giant elves in FF and I'm so jealous of the story Elves that aren't. I really hope in the future we'll be able to make ours smaller too.

No. There's no need for playable children in the game - which is exactly what shorter elves are in this setting. Luckily the development team themselves have ruled it out.

So you want half-elezens/half-hyurs?

They're not short for no reason. They're still kids. Probably won't hit their growth spurt till their much later teen years.

I don't think this thread is necessarily about playable children, probably more traditional elves. Like wood elves for example. Hilda for example. We won't ever get a half race, would be nice though. I'd play a hyur/elezen if they looked good, even over viera. Since presumably their head would be able to use all headgear, being just a hyur head.

All of the elezen in Ishgard were full grown and very tall. Look at Aymeric. This also applies to elezen in Gridania and elsewhere in the Black Shroud.

It will never happen. Elezen are a tall race, and uniquely proportioned. A traditional DnD elf looks like Hilda. Granted, drow should be shorter, and they have different coloration, but Hilda would be the look. Really too bad they don't have the resources to do more for the races we have, new races, or potentially a playable half elezen race like Hilda.

Lalafell

Lalafell are short elves.

Or shorter Viera. The shortest height still towers over everyone lol.

Clearly the designers of Viera wanted big Dom bun gfs

Alphinaud and Alisaie are 'small' because they're not mature yet. Elezen get to their adult size at around 20 ish years old according to the Encyclopedia Eorzea.

Well I mean, they should be adult by now but you know, time bubble and whatnot.

Not needed. Height is what makes races like viera and elezen unique to their other female counterparts. Meaning more variety. Sliders should be (stay) restricted, in my opinion.

To add, by the way, viera look like they are towering even on the lower end of the height slider, because most of the people playing races like miqo'te and au ra you see have their height sliders at minimum.

Most elven races in fantasy all take their look from Tolkien, where they were described as “tall and hauntingly beautiful”. Specifically the elves of Lothlorien. That’s been the standard for the last 60-some-odd years.

You know we are(main is Viera) rivaled by female roes and highlanders in terms of height right? It's not all that unique. I just would like to be shorter =p and I have stood next to max height cats.

Edit: on the other hand(the 3D modeler in me is talking now), they would look weird downscaled.

Give me viera bodies with elven ears instead of bunny ears and I'm sold.

I wouldn't mind a shorter race on principle, something like WoW dwarf height, taller than lalafel but shorter than the other races. But I don't think we'll see any more races in FFXIV aside from MAYBE male viera/female hrothgar if the dev team can manage it. But even what we have seems to be stretching it.

As far as just increasing the sliders, the way the sliders work you can only go so far with them. Shrinking or enlarging the models too much will start to make things look wonky. So giving us short elezen wouldn't be as simple as just letting us shrink elezen more with the height slider.

They should let us make longer elves, like this one

I'd like this too, if only because it's a little frustrating that the majority of male character models you can play as are really big and buff. The only exception is male Miqote and to a lesser extent midlanders.

I think it is worth to mention that Alphinaud and Alisaie aren't "children". They are as far as i remember adults after sharlayan law and idk if you can call a 16+ Alphinaud still a child. It's also not like Eorzea can be compared to our modern society anyways. Heck they even try to sell kiddos in Ul, not to mention the arcanist questline. If they would be still children i think they would have now a really heavy trauma, i would have one even as an adult after the stuff they saw and did.

Also i don't say that it's ok to draw lewd stuff with them, just pointing out what the lore says. The story is really rough sometimes and that also to children, because Hydaelyn isn't a nice place. Slavery, famines, MONSTERS EVERYWHERE, wars, bandits and pirates, more monsters and primals and whatever else there is...the world isn't nice and especially not towards kiddos, so they have to grow up fast.

Ofc that's not an argument for being able to play as kiddos, in my eyes that would be stupid. Wouldn't match the adventurer story behind the game well in my eyes. (Also we don't want to feed the creeps out there even more!)

Honestly Height doesn't equal age to be an honest hell girl I was taller than most adults in 7th grade lol.. So this issue of Age=height is totally incorrect. Next I agree you should be able down a lot lower in height than it manually puts on it. Maybe your character has dwarfism, or maybe they reply were cursed to be trapped at that height no matter how far they age.. I really don't understand why people are putting age on height when even earlier age has nothing to do with your height.

Next, My personality honestly is extremely immature hell my favorite show still is Winx club.. So I tend to want to go shorter on races because how I am mentally which honestly has lead to me being insulted when I play larger size characters in games.

You forgot about lalafells

The only issue I have with regarding the height is the game world seems really big, I had to Fantasia my female Midlander so she could sit on a Bar Stool and Counter without looking really small

An option to make a half Elezen like Hilda, is pretty much everything i want. Not only is she perfect height, but cost wise, it would be so easy for SE to implement. A few original emotes, some new animations and voila.

I'd like to see the height scalar expanded for all races. Humans come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and the current height ranges aren't fantastic for representing all the sizes of adults.

But I'm not for playable teens or kids, which is what the twins are. Though now with trusts showing the underage scions in pain, and Square themselves undressing them, and any community problem with ERPG already applying to Lalas... I think the only major argument against it is that resources are much better spent on other things.

I would totally be for a third hyur subrace though where they literally just add elezen ears to the model and call them half elves. Should be pretty simple asset wise, though I'm sure the actual implementation into the game is probably locked behind several levels of convolution that would prevent such a thing.

Male characters get more choice over this already, since their faces have a much wider range of ages. Females rarely get any noticeable range.

The bodies don't vary of course, but how you dress is going to change the overall impression of their age as well.

Yes indeed. as subtle a difference it would be, i for one would still want the option. The fact is that only Hyur have the option of a race option in it's self that allows for drastic changes between Midlander and Highlander. Elezen deserve that option, being long time staples of fantasy.

Never going to happen but as long as we're playing the genie game here, I wish to be like Hilda.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was trying to say. Presumably they could just reuse midlander hyur assets, with some minor adjustments, make some new animations and emotes. Throw out the female midlander's trash animations, and there we go. Still, I'd probably rather they actually did what needed to be done for viera before this, but not like this would ever happen anyway. "resources". I'd even heavily consider a male elezen/hyur if they looked good, midlander is trash, but when I play a male I prefer an actual good looking man, and not too far off from human (caveman highlander is a no go for me). Not that I'd ever play a male on my main though, I have way too many female only outfits.

Just let us buy "elezen ears" headpieces already, then we can all try to cosplay as a half-elezen if we want. That sort of thing can't be that hard to implement. It would prevent other headgear from being worn too, but that's the price to pay for ~G L A M O U R~

We desperately need an "accessories" spot added to the Equipment window some day just for situations like this. I mean, that's just asking for tons of clipping to happen, but I'd rather have the option and have things clash than not have the option at all.

While I am against the idea of playable children in this, I would like to visit the orphanage in Ul'Dah again because it was rather interesting seeing kids in this

I know this isn't as immersive as Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, or Harvest Moon, But I honestly want to see Half Races be a thing besides having Hilda around

There's no way they'd expand on player marriage to allow us to start families in this, That's what FanFiction is for tbh
