Expert Roulette is repetitive content that feels mandatory.

So I was thinking about how the majority of the currently existing level 80 content suffers from an issue of rewarding far, far too few tomestones compared to Expert Roulette, to the point that capping solely through non-expert content feels unfeasible on most weeks, specially as the only remotely comparable sources of Allegory tomestones are Alliance Raid roulette (which will almost always land you in a zero stakes level 50 raid where dying takes conscious effort) or Main Scenario roulette (which is level 50 content and consists mostly of watching cutscenes).

Meanwhile, level cap content outside of Expert dungeons, such as normal mode and alliance raids award paltry amounts of currency (20 Allegory for a full run of Copied Factory?), which means that even if you enjoy this content, its largely not feasible to cap through it unless you're prepared to grind it to kind of absurd degrees.

Even Extreme Primals and Savage raids are subject to this, with primals dropping only around 10 tomestones and a full clear of the entire savage raid tier for the week giving 120 tomestones, barely more than a single run of Expert, despite being much harder and more time-consuming. A hunt train that successfully kills every A-rank in Shadowbringers will also only award you barely more tomestones than an Expert Roulette, and is subject to you actually being around when it starts, thus not being entirely reliable.

All of this just results in an unfortunate issue where it feels mandatory to run Expert Roulette several times per week, with very little available in terms of level cap alternatives, which feels at odds with a game that's designed to encourage you to partake in diverse side activities, and, since tomestones gear is the primary form of gearing up for players who don't raid savage, it forces a particular type of content (currently only two dungeons) into being replayed over and over.

I believe it would be better for the game if activities like level cap alliance raids, level 80 dungeon roulette, normal mode raids, beast tribe quests, hunts, savage raids, extreme primals and maybe even fates all acted as more viable means to cap out every week, since it would give the average player more options in what they want to do every time they play instead of feeling repetitive.

I know what you mean OP. There was months i would go with not capping on tomes.

One nice thing about Eureka was that I'd cap tomes without even thinking about it. Hopefully the new relic thing will be like it in that regard.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, cause I very well could be. But isn't it possible to hit the weekly cap by doing the roulette daily + other content?

I ask because I was under the impression that doing the expert roulette daily was the intent if the goal was to hit tome cap.

I cap tomes each week doing the hunt trains. Super easy and fast.

Don't cap. I got bored of it so I stopped worrying about capping years ago. You don't really even need good gear to do most content in this game and the tome gear just gets discarded every few months. It's really not worth the tedium capping each and every week.

I do agree some other activities could use a tome amount bump.

Like stated above, you can also do maps and hunt trains - which will also reward you with Nuts and cracked stellarclusters. I see you're on the Light DC, so you could look up the Clan Centurio discord to keep notified when the DC is doing trains. It's very fast and is like 120 tomes total(even more right now since Rak'tika has extra instances).

Once Bozja Citadel content is released sometime within next pig patch, that will probably also reward tomes like Eureka did, so we'll get one more thing to mix things around.

I wish FATEs had a tomestone reward for doing them at level cap. Like 5 per for gold completion.

You're not wrong. It should definitely give more than 40 tomes

Doing Expert yields a total of 90 allegory tomes (50 for the dungeon + 40 for using the expert roulette) so doing this for 5 days will get you to cap.

I agree, however, that there should be more activities that can yield us the 90 daily tomes than just the expert roulette.

I also love treasure maps. Possibly too much; I've managed to harvest and hoard 18 zonureskin maps by stuffing them into retainers, into my chocobo saddlebag, and mailing them to friends who then mail them back to me so as to temporarily use my mailbox like retainer storage.

Once I finish work and log on tonight, it'll be 19 maps.

More seriously, if I had done much of any other content in a week, I found myself capping on weekly Phantasmagoria without meaning to in 5.1 after even a fairly smallish map party—four people each with 2 maps to run, for instance, so 8 maps total.
