What DPS class would you have picked in 2.0 if you knew future patch changes?

Back in 2.0, classes were almost nothing like today. They've all had elements bolted on top at 60/70/80, many have been reworked, and the content available has improved dramatically.

Given all of that, if you had to choose one DPS class to play exclusively for all prior patches and content up today which would you choose?

Black Mage.

Well I didn't know how the patches would go but I did pick one job to play almost exclusively and that is my BLM. I started in 2.4? I think, and did the trial they had at the time for the 7 days to level 20. I played most of the jobs in the 7 days and once I hit BLM, well thm, I never looked back. I don't regret anything lol

My most played job since I started the game (a few months after ARR launched) has been DRG. It has always been fun for me, and that's all that really matters to me. Sometimes I go away from it for a bit because I need a change, but every time I come back it's like riding a bike...or fits like a glove...or whatever metaphor you want to attach to it.

Dragoon because it consistently has evolved and gotten good skills. I started with Monk and still consider it my main but it feels like its the dev’s redheaded stepchild which they’ll repeatedly ignore in favor of the problems literally any other job has.

Sure, there are patches where some people complain that BLM has been "nerfed" or claim that some other jobs is "top dps" but I don't really care if that job isn't

2.0 Thaumaturge was interesting for lv1-30 - I miss being able to cast Virus, Bio, Cure, Aero, Protect and Raise!

Probably would of started as an Arcanist so I could have become a SCH sooner.

Pugilist and Monk.

No matter what balance, buff or nerf incoming, it's always feel good to punch ppl in da face.

Come hell or high water, always a Summoner.

I leveled Archer/Bard, Pugilist/Monk, and Marauder/Warrior to 50 back in 1.x, and those honestly served me well until ShB. Unless this game goes many more expansions, I can't say I'm in any way sad to have "wasted" three iterations on them.

I started with BLM then eventually switched to SMN during ARR. Both jobs are still solid even today, but I still prefer SMN. Plus SMN has been through a redemption arc aesthetic-wise.

It's less about knowing future patches and more about knowing me now. I'm a much better caster player than I am a melee player, so if I were to go back as (the me of 2020) I'd probably main Black Mage instead of Dragoon like (the me of 2014) did.
