Technically, real money has to be traded before they're considered real-money traders. I still haven't seen any sites advertising for these things. *shudders at the thought*
Its the same thing that happened in XI, but if no one buys it they'll stop farmin it. XI people bought it left and right, it was (to quote charles barkley) TURRIBAL. Then they died out for a while, then made a raging comeback, over and over and over... RMT were like the tide.
With it being so easy to get gil in XIV and having nothing (much) to spend it on, I hope they fade into nothingness very quickly. If I find someone buyin gil i'll be SMH at them for eternity.
Most likely they are banking on the success of the game after Ver 2.0 and the PS3 release and are building their stockpiles for then. Cheap enough at the current sub rates as to be worth the risk.
I dont know about people buying gil
but i know at least 1 person on my server who bought their account
cant say who cuz ill get in trouble, damn forum rules
A quick google search turns up a crap-ton of sites selling gil. Less than $10 per million on the first one I checked. I'm sure somebody is using those sites. =/
If I were going to buy gil in this game, I wouldn't pay a dime over $10 for 10m.
I know someone who got banned for buying gil. So I would advise against anyone that is thinking about it really.
If you could somehow prove these guys were gil farmers I'm sure they would be banned too. But gotta get the proof and they never even speak.
Not so sure that they'll really get banned before v2.0 as RMT or not, SE benefits more from their subscription money than they would without future PS3 players. Maybe upon PS3 release they all get wiped @_@/
The way the economy is now in Balmung, it would actually be pretty hard to make 10 million gil. If not hard, at least time-consuming. It's cost vs relative work that would drive somebody to buy gil. I wouldn't personally use such a service because I'd rather make my own way through the game, and I already have enough gil to buy whatever I need. Not everyone sees it that way though, I'm sure.
lolz the RMT even put their picture on one of the sites

@_@ why they always make Lalafell chars be RMT?! Talk about giving a bad reputation to a whole race. . . . No wonder those Roegs always wanna eat them.
I remember logging in on the open beta and their were people shouting to sell gill. I just shook my head... And I hopped that no one bought it when they were going to get reset in a few days.
The biggest problem with RMT is the fact that SE doesnt care
The RMT and others are out there.
Gil has been successful enough to fuel the activities in this game. If you find that community of regular gil-buyers, you'll find they have prioritized some real world funds to supplement their gaming experience (at least it does for them).
Hello Guys!
RMT is a very serious matter and we are sorry that it continues to plague our game. What we would like for you to do is take advantage of our Special Task Force reporting process. The Special Task Force was developed solely to investigate Real Money Trading and Third Party Program use. While the GM team is happy to take your reports via the /helpdesk system, the Special Task Force reporting feature also gives you control over who you report and when.
To place reports, simply go to our Support Center, click on FINAL FANTASY XIV and then the Contact button. Our Support Center is located at http://support.na.square-enix.com
Just to remind everyone, our Special Task Force does regular bannings for the purchase of Gil through these sites. In addition, many of these sites have key loggers and you run the risk of having your accounts compromised. Please take caution when venturing to these sites.
I will be closing this thread so please be sure to use the Link provided to report any suspected RMTs.
Thank you!
