New to Patch 5.2
Crafting and Gathering Overhaul
Ocean Fishing
Well, that's certainly a lot to unpack!
But I think the first thing that's going to draw the attention of those who frequent this forum is that they're finally coming back around to The Starshower. I mean, I'm sure it won't be what it was in 1.0, but Shadowbringers opened some convenient doors for making it look relevant / prophetic.
The Exarch does not look safe and that worries me above all else.
Nice to see Bae Galvus in his Dissidia outfit at least.
The fact that we see Zenos walking through a recollection of the original Calamity makes me wonder if he got tired of waiting for us to come home.
Considering that he is pretty much an Ascian at this point, hopping between shards isn't really out of the question for him.
This coupled with Y'shtola's (?) hypothesis that a sufficiently strong memory could continue to impact a soul even eons later makes me think the Starshower Echo users experience when they awaken was definitely a vague recollection of the original Calamity.
Hearing Hydaelyn also with her Hear think feel while watching that star shower in the trailer makes me wonder if we are finally going to be able to talk to her again after two expansions of Silence.
There's a lot in it with no/little context but ...
* Zenos, looking swanky in his Imperial Court outfit, exploring the Amaurot re-creation; does look like they're going to move his plot further, faster. Probably there thanks to his new "friend"/helper and no doubt the ability to traverse the Rift. Does suggest he could be the 5.3 boss.
* Still think Ardbert is linked somehow to Elidibus, possibly in the hopes of restoring the shard to a state where it's ready to rejoin, i.e. reviving the flood. The clouds coalescing over the Crystarium look like regular dense clouds but at the same time there's light bursting through them, so not sure what to make of it... but maybe the early stages of a resurgent flood?
* We see Ryne and the Scions on what looks like the Source; meanwhile, the Exarch is undergoing further crystalisation - connected I guess to returning the Scions home.
* Interesting that the zone of the Empire they show has an Archades feel to it - it's too warm to be Garlemald itself, which last we saw was in snow, but maybe they've begun exploring/reclaiming Goug? Looks like it's set somewhere in Dalmasca's vicinity. Gabranth's Legion is still active there and we see Mikoto from the Ivalice series in the trailer, in what looks like Bozja Citadel to me. Some of the screenshots look like the effects of Construct 7's Tartarus to me.
* At the least it looks like Anamnesis may be giving some insight into how Creation magick worked in terms of the concepts. The "ideal forms" thing is a strong nod at Platonism, but as has been remarked on before, this is probably the basis of the more primitive Primal summoning we know - the god is the "concept". Looks like the Echo itself is also going to be a focal point, probably to do with the MSQs rather than the dungeon itself.
* The Ramuh centaur/Ixion and Garuda/Ifrit combo (which remind me of XV) are interesting; leaves room for Shiva as the third Primal fight, if they implement her in this tier, and what looks like a sin eater to me, but there's a mixture of darkness and light so maybe it's to do with the two Oracles who controlling it one after the other.
* This scene was interesting. Some woman in black, with a depiction of what seems to be the Aetherial Sea/Underworld/Lifestream and the Source? It doesn't jive with the other depictions of Hydaelyn we've seen, so I'm curious if it is her or some other figure of import. I thought the lower body was a squid at first! It looks to be Viis. I'm guessing whatever provides the impetus to go to Anamnesis Anyder might rest in a clue in the (deeper) Ronkan ruins. Also, this image of Hydaelyn (?) is interesting, with the spider legs around it. Very curious to see what goes into that and I wonder if this may suggest some manner of parasite is involved in the whole matter, or just some depiction of how she was worshipped, like the spider having some symbolic significance to the Ronkans. Could signify her link to the shards, even if it does not add up numerically.
* Voice at the end - I'll bet it's Elidibus. Seems like an ironic play on Emet's own words about Elidibus when speaking to Varis, that Elidibus "seldom errs". I think he could be referring to the fact that Emet ended up precipitating your soul's rejoining? Or maybe for not just letting the WoL become corrupted into a Lightwarden? For revealing so much so soon? For not immediately taking the Exarch back to their base as a prisoner? For dying? Who knows.
* Granson is out and about!
Not long to go now at least. :D
Some random observations:
- Granson (the Hume from the tank role quests) is present in the trailer.
- Garlean airships can be seen in what appears to be the upper levels of Goug, suggesting a followup to the Gabranth plot thread.
- Ryne is present alongside Cid on what appears to be the Source.
- The imagery of Hydaelyn looks to be rather creepy and sinister!
So much to unwrap here, so much lore hype activated. Biggest one being that voice at the end, it did NOT sound like Elidibus. And the way it spoke...reminded me of how Hythlodaeus speaks.
I have many question but only ONE will is the most important....
Will that Laser Rocket Launcher be a Machinist skill?!
Other than that it seems the Job Role Quests will be playing very important roles in the MSQ as so far it seems each 5.X MSQ will involve someone who play a part in the Job Role Quest with this 5.2 involving Granson now.
I am also curious if we will get to see and meet the Pilot of the Weapons as this new Chronicle Saga is a important Side-story to the MSQ showing Gaius and the War on the Source side of the MSQ events. (even though it is a optional Quest Saga)
It is a IMPORTANT part of the MSQ storyline (while optional if players choose to just skip it) being the War progress side of the story since it seems the Garlean are still fighting even with Civil War happening in their homeland. I can only assume the Weapons are their last attempt to turn the War in their favor as quickly as possible and if they fail with them they will lose the war due to not being able to continue due to the Civil War happening in their homeland. Still no matter what players choose it seem the Weapon Saga will happen but the only difference will be if WoL was there to aid with stopping the Weapons or Gaius did it without WoL's help.
I suspect they found a way to bring them back to the Source this MSQ and a side effect is Ryne joining them.
Do we know where Bozja Citadel is for the relic quests? I always assumed it was on the empire's continent but now that I think about it I'm not sure.

I don't remember what he sounds like... he's currently possessing Ardbert, so he's shed whichever host he was using on the Source prior to Zenos. It's hard to pin it down since it changes along with the host.

I find this image interesting. I guess its an image of the Calamity from what little the Ronkan remember of it. But in the center looks to be 2 figures back to back? On one side is a person wielding a staff with wings and is notably black, while the other has a white face. Could this be Zodiark and Hydaelyn? Also they seem to be in a circle, so maybe its the moon?

I think it's just one, at least based on this when you zoom in more.
im not gonna lie seeing zenos like that put a fire in me i want a grand fight
I didn't expect to be more excited for the relic questline than for the MSQ, but with the news of Gabranth being the enemy and a story requiring the Ivalice raids first, here I am practically bouncing in my seat. Holy crap I'm excited!
Although, not to sound like a broken record, but seeing Zenos in Amaurot sure puts a damper on my mood.
I reckon it's to do with his plan to "gorge" on Zodiark. Still wondering if his new friend has some connection to Elidibus and it's a coordinated plan. The outfit is a huge improvement.
I want a grand fight with Zenos as well, but I don't want to kill him. Just make him mortal once more and so he could purge for what he did. But I guess, more people want him to die once and for all.
Yet his Dissidia's outfit makes him very good(sexy) !
I wonder what crafting actions they gonna remove... there is like, not much left anyways? and all the demimateria will be gone as well... my god >_>
It reminds me of this old patch art:

Hydaelyn has always had rather creepy vibes to her, to say nothing of her persistent evasiveness.
The colour scheme and headpiece remind me a bit of...

The insect legs look like an "interpretation" of the wings. :D
^ If the mosaic is not actually Hydaelyn but Ultima and it's from the relic questline, I'd be all for that!
On another note I'm glad to see Ryne and Thancred in parts of the trailer outside Eden. After they were absent from 5.1 I was worried Eden was being used as an excuse for them to sit out the MSQ. What's really interesting is at 2:25 in the trailer, when the Scions all manifest around Cid. I guess we find a way back to the Source in this patch.
Also yo the SAM's gear in the Eden gear picture is awesome.
Well, they've already done Ultima in the Ivalice raid. I think it is Hydaelyn, but inspired by Ultima in XII's design to some extent.
so we will be going against gabranth at bozja citadel to free the place?
Calling it now, Elidibus has nothing to do with the Ardbert body, but it's actually possession that's Hydaelyn related.
I thought it was vaguely similar to the art from Qitana Ravel:

Granted, this has a lot more detail.

The last time we saw any depictions of her outside of this was from the ARR CE art:
https://i.imgur.com/PGP115H.jpg
(incidentally, that does look like the High Seraph from Orbonne! Especially since the statue version of her has the halo)
So I'll grant that it does look a bit different to anything we've seen. It's both adequately similar and different to potentially be a misdirect. I'm placing my bets on it being a depiction of her.
The trailer started with a remix of my favorite XIV song. Yes, I'm hyped.
The moment I saw that very brief Scene I went "OH NO".
Me and some friends been expecting that if they ever explain Aumarot's calamity they could've used that 1.0 thing back and I can't believe they actually brought it up. Only time will tell what for, though.
Also, big fan of the Garuda/Ifrit, seems o be a refference to Devilman. A mirror of the main character and the antagonist, I can't say much more without spoilering but do google about it if anyone is curious. I also expected to have 3 of the primals this time saving Shiva for first fight of 5.4 so they could pack more unexpected stuff later on. Kind of similar how the Omega tournament ended by Chaos' encounter.
Now, to join on the mural discussion. I assume its related to the Cidatel. Weird to see the Scions joining with Cid since he will be taking the front lead of that sidequest. Hope they can pull that off nicely.
I have no clue of whatever is going on with the weird Ardbert. But my money is still in that it might be Elidibus provoking us.
