Does it ever feel pointless?
In combat I dont jump.
If I'm just messing around in town, I might hop around.
Sometimes it's useful out in the world especially when you don't have a flying mount yet. And the occasional platforming/jumping puzzle/minigame.
I jump all the time, and I can't say it's ever felt pointless for me? Usually when I jump it's like pseudo parkour - I'm jumping to a rock and then off of it down a tunnel in a dungeon, or jumping between tiles in a paved road, or just finding things to jump up to a higher spot.
I love jumping.
I don't always jump, but when I do, its twice my height in vertical distance.
Jumping is an essential part of my rotation, if I didn't people would get pissed. ;)
Also, Dragoons shouldn't take falling damage.
About every 3 seconds.
If you ever want the purest amount of joy, just play NIN, unsheathe your weapon, and just start jumping around in circles. Bonus points if you're a Roe/Hrothgar or a Lalafell because you're either going to be a huge spinning ball of death or a small beach ball being knocked into the air with daggers attached.
Jumping makes you go farther r-right?
I jump most of the time: When I'm waiting for duty start in the instance, jumping on my way to the boss as Tank -- but not while fighting --, when I'm bored or feel like jumping *pyon-pyon* It's always fun to make people also jump (for a bit) when you start jumping up and down XD.
I jump alot honestly it has little point but I tend to jump around in circles
I remember back in the beta for 1.0 (I never played 1.0 on live) the was no jumping and I found it really awkward, being sort of glued to the floor. Even when you don't need it, it just feels more natural to have the option. Otherwise you hit a point when your instinct is to jump and your train of thought just crashes to a halt.
I jump over the guard rails after aggroing the spotlight groups at the end of Castrum. I use jump for various other things. I'd rather jump exist, than not.
P.S. Gold Saucer jump puzzles.
It is pointless a lot of the time. It would be nice if it actually worked.
I remember back in its day people use to jump over the poison puddles in AV but still get the debuff even though they never actually touched the poison. It's a little thing but be cool if jumping worked on stuff like that. There are quite a few other examples of similar things in various dungeons or encounters where it would be cool if jumping worked.
You gotta jump with the proper timing while connecting with the animations for paladin and warrior combo enders, the momentum just carries that extra oomph
I hope now and then when waiting in queue. Usually to fence post to fence post or something.
If I'm actually around others I maintain a semblance of maturity.
It was made pretty useless on purpose. The devs didn't feel jumping had a place in the game, and it wasn't in FFXI or 1.0. But enough people wanted it, so they were all "Ok, we'll add it, but we won't make it mandatory." Minus that one ledge in Totorak
Before every boss pull.
Jumping is a universal communication for
"Heal me"
"Hello"
"I am ready"/"Hurry up"
"$%*!"
In pvp? Jump beside a healer. Ready check? Jump up and down. If you don't understand this, well, now you do.
I make up jumping puzzles wherever I go just for fun. Those little posts in the water outside the Twin Adder barracks are a good place to stand around waiting for a queue.
If I ever get a large house, I intend to turn the basement into a jumping puzzle just for kicks. I have no idea how, but I'll figure it out.
For some reason my Viera alts jump more, but I do jump more when bored.
Pre launch there was a lot of discussion on weather or not jumping should be brought in or not. A crap-ton of people coming from FFXI (most) did not want as FFXI didn't have it. In 11 we all had to walk 10 yalms around a ilm cliff and we liked it!! 14 should of course do the same. ;)
Jumping is my primary source of communication with other party members.
Hardly ever. My FC criticizes my tank play telling me jumping during the pull increases aggro generation, and every good tank should be doing it, lol. I guess I'm not meant to be a tank main.
However, my jump rate increases exponentially when playing NIN. Now if only we can shukuchi onto elevated ledges...
For getting across terrain, I jump a lot.
As some others have said, it also works as a universal "acknowledgement" emote. It can be "thankyou", "I'm ready", "we did it!", "come this way" or anything that would be assumed in the context.
(I still remember playing the game Journey where your only way of communicating with your companion player was to jump or chime at them. It worked quite well.)
The occasional people who just jump all the time in dungeons here make me dizzy though. It's very off-putting seeing that constant motion in the corner of the screen.
jumping actually help me in a certain mechanic in UWU ultimate where i have to bait the landslide and if I have gaols, I run and jump to my spot. it actually a real helpful thing lol
Honestly I feel like it's a controller vs. keyboard thing. If I was using a keyboard, I'd probably only jump when necessary, like to get up a ledge or take a shortcut.
On controller though? I pretty much just jump all the time. It's just so easy. lol
Since ShB i jump much more since you can spin yourself in the air.
Its funny to see and when other jumps too it feels even more funnier :D
Not at all. One, I find it annoying (when other players do it around me). It's too much like:

Two, I stream this game. So constantly hitting the space bar just makes for unnecessary noise that my microphone picks up. It can become an earsore after a while.
If you're not jumping and doing full 360s in the air, are you even playing the game?
I use jump every time when I'm going to fly and I use it to jump over fences a bunch.
I used to have a reputation in my first FC for being "the man who jumps off towers."
Now if only they would let us dismount from flying mounts while in mid-air. I wanna go skydiving!
I’ve played since 1.0 beta and played FFXI before that. When I heard that ARR would have jumping and minions, I had feared that the end was nigh and that people would be jumping everywhere for no reason and that it would break my immersion and I vowed to never jump since it’s pointless.
Fast forward 6? years and I jump all over the place and even spend a lot of time doing nothing but jumping laps around my FC house walls while talking on discord and I constantly have a minion out and feel naked without one.
