Machinist Lunchboxes Should Match Weapons - It is WAY past time.

This is a major oversight in the job's development since its inception. Our machinist lunchboxes have no appearance change at all based on what the weapon actually looks like. This has always been a major annoyance for me when it comes to glam (the real endgame).

This is completely unfair considering bard's quivers change based on the weapon, and samurai's saya (scabbard) change based on the weapon, and I think astrologian's card holder thing changes too? (not sure since I don't like healing and have barely ever played astro) You decide to also give machinist a weapon with a "built in" accessory, yet you ignore the fact that it always looks the same (terrible), and never matches your weapon, or anything else you want to wear (and being able to dye them is irrelevant, because that's only based on the weapon itself being dyeable, the lunchbox still doesn't match).

At the very least, put in the minimum effort and just make an option to hide them so I can lower my annoyance level enough to feel like playing Machinist again. I know some people won't care, and I know many people do...not that I think this should be any kind of priority, just some day (hopefully soon)...please fix this massive years long oversight in the job's design.

The reason the aetherotransformer does not change appearence to match whatever gun you have equipped is it was specifically made by Stephanivien for you, it's one-of-a-kind and custom made for you using the MCH's Guild's own theories on magitek, so it's natural weapon stores do not sell different ones.

I guess some kind of glamour for it through the MCH's Guild made by the Skysteel Manufactory under Stephanivien's direction might be possible, but to be honest, unless there was a lot of player requests for it, I don't see SE implementing such a minor cosmetic change sadly.

Since weapons and helmets can be hidden, we could at least get a option to hide it, or in form of macro similar to the option to adjust Bahamut size.

That is not enough justification. Since the exterior could be easily modified by anyone.

That sounds like a stupid lore excuse to half-ass their weapon design. It shouldn't be any surprise to SE that people want to glam stuff and MATCH. Making a stupidly rigid design choice like that is tremendously short-sighted.

Except gear design and restrictions on how they are used has been deliberately implemented since the beginning because Yoshi wants the lore of the game to be consistant - it's why AF gear is Job restricted even when used as glamour for instance, he stated this way back during the Beta test.

People may want to 'mix and match' gear for glamour (and even I've had times I've seen gear I would like to glamour on another Job but are unable to due to gear restrictions), but the development team have decided to make it more restrictive and given fully logical reasons for doing so, and are not going to change their stance on this. That's just being realistic.

Yeah, I'd love the ability to hide it - there's way too much clipping with many of the outfits/emotes I use.

I'd be perfectly happy with being able to hide it. Its main purpose is to justify why we never run out of ammo, but nobody really questions why bards never run out of arrows, or ninjas out of kunai, or any other ranged/thrown weapons.

And here I am just wishing the handgun models could be equipped at the waist or leg.

I'm not saying anything about not wanting the lore to be consistent, I know and agree it is important. I'm saying it was a stupid lore decision in the first place to explain the lunchbox in a way that severely limits the appearance customizability of only ONE JOB in the entire game.

People wearing bikinis as tanks is totally acceptable though.

I imagine hiding the lunchbox would be easier to do (I actually never heard it called that before until very recently haha), but I'd settle for a smaller form factor as well.

I'd just rather hide it. If I can hide the weapon, why can't I hide it?

You're talking about the fannypack-looking box thing that machinists wear, right?

So let me get this straight:

-It looks the same no matter what weapon you use because of a lore excuse, meaning it is lore-unfriendly for a weapon to make it look like something else by default.
-The lore explanation for glamours is that it's merely an illusion to make an item look like another item. So technically, it IS lore-friendly for tanks to run around in bikinis, because they're really suits of steel.

...then wouldn't the answer be to decouple the 'lunchbox' from the weapon? Like, make it a statless, ilvl-irrelevant 'weapon' for the secondary weapon slot. Then we could use the glamour system on it.

Ideally I'd like to just not see the stupid thing to begin with. Clips with a lot of my favourite outfits.

I don't think that's quite true. I think it is more to explain why guns scale off of the power of the wielder. It is easy to explain why a lance scales with the might and finesse of the user, bows with fantasy materials might require more draw strength, and of course magic rods are the easiest analogy, but guns are difficult. Games have often struggled with explaining why, say, more strength = more gun damage. I always am in favour of not thinking about it, but sometimes writers just can't sleep at night.

If the bullets are produced from your aether, the theory is that as your Warrior of Light becomes more powerful, so does your ammunition. That is quite different from a bow or kunai, and why characters like Thancred or pure-blooded Garleans are at a disadvantage.

Honestly, i think it would be better, and probably easier, to just hide it.

I ran into a healer today wearing the level 1 mended imperial clothes you receive from the main scenario quests. No they weren't glamoured but they were wearing the actual item. People will surprise you with their forgetfulness or stupidity. Take your pick.

I've been in many parties with many undergeared idiots before, but never someone wearing an actual ilvl 1 piece. I'm not sure if thats fun, or sad XD

It was painful for the tank, because she was wearing some of her other white mage armour as well.

The question is solely whether the man-hours for redesigning the box for every weapon is a worthwhile investment.

I personally couldn't care less. We barely even seem to use the damn thing anymore, and it rarely ever seems to outright clash with the weapon designs, so I'd prefer to merely get the option to hide it and instead get fewer weapons that are mere recolors of those before.

And if we for whatever reason have additional resources to throw at MCH, I'd far prefer a holster and clip, belt, or strap depending on the chest and leg-gear. Not having a pistol floating off my back matters far more to me than a slightly mismatched toolbox.

I agree, even with gear sets that look tailor made for a gunner, the aetherotransformer still had huge clipping issues. I just wish I could solve it by just hiding the darn thing.

It does mean there's no reason to find a matching custom case for it alongside the antique gun you found in a dungeon. It's a newly-invented device designed to augment pre-existing guns.

If you have a dyeable weapon, the case does change colour to match.
