Blacklisting is flawed and that’s that.

Blacklisting should be a two-way street and isn’t.
One person can blacklist another but once that initial blacklisting takes place, they can just toggle it on and off and harass another player remorselessly and the other has no choice but to endure their petty banter while a GM report goes absolutely nowhere and reverse blacklisting isn’t even remotely possible when the players prewriting messages, sending them and then instantly reblacklisting.

Good job making it easier for people to harass each other knowing there isn’t enough resources to get GMs to combat bullying and blacklisting was meant to be that failsafe and now isn’t.

I do wish blacklisting someone or removing them from your friendslist would also remove you from theirs. I got quite the shock logging into a character I abandoned due to harassment after thinking it was finally safe with a name/race change and several months between then and the incident, only to have my harasser immediately poke and ask who I was. My bad for unblacklisting them thinking that time would make them lose interest but knowing they had been tracking their friendslist like that and watching for immediate changes was a kick in the gut.

I'm not certain you understand how blacklisting works based on what you've written here.

You placing a character on a blacklist prevents you from seeing chat messages initiated by that character (not other characters the same player might have) and prevents that character from joining a party you are leading and have listed in party finder (doesn't work if someone else is leading the party and has put up the PF listing).

The other player has no control over their character being included on your blacklist. There's nothing for them to toggle on/off. If you are seeing their chat, it's because you removed the character from your blacklist or never placed it on your blacklist in the first place.

If the player is doing something to circumvent your blacklist to continue harassing you, like switching to another character, the GMs will take that into consideration if you report the continued harassment.

But generally blacklisting the character takes care of the problem - as long as you are not sending messages to that player after adding them to your blacklist. If you're doing that, the GMs might decide you're attempting to provoke the other player and they'll disregard your harassment claim.

Then blacklist them back, don't make stupid thread and not feel stupid about it.

Blacklisting should be account wide in all honesty. If you Blacklist someone all their characters on that account are counted as well, the only key being it will only show the character you blacklisted. But wont show the other characters said person owns they will just automatically be ignored.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Is them blacklisting you somehow preventing you from blacklisting them? It's not like you need to say anything to them, right?

A lot of people hurl crap at me... thinking I actually give a damn. They thought wrong.
They assume their own narcissism and ego somehow affects me... it does not.

The faster they come to that realization... the better off they will be.

...but in all seriousness, you can't simply stop being blacklisted in a trivial, easy-to-toggle fashion.

I mean, you can go out of your way to make alts or attempt to invalidate the blacklist handle. (There have been reports in the past of people paying to world hop to another DC and then hop back and having their blacklist status reset.)
However, at that point, it's the same thing as paying your ISP for a replace-on-demand IP and having tons of email addresses in order to bypass forum bans. You're giving yourself extra work, and they still won't listen to you.

Okay, you lost me. Blacklisting means to block all incoming messages and text from a specific individual. Even if the blacklisted offenders could get around such a block on their own end, I can't see the messages actually making it through to the recipient who initiated the blacklisting without some form of bannable circumvention.

Okay, after re-reading the OP's post several times, I finally understood what he/she meant. I would suggest fixing the wording for people out there who are as dense as myself.

Pretty sure there is nothing that keeps you from blacklisting a person who has you blacklisted.

I was given an official warning after making jokes about my crush on Aymeric de Borel during an MSQ raid- evidently, someone took offense to it & went out of their way to report me. I've never received any warning before or anything... So, reporting people DOES work- but only if you joke about the NPC's, but people who harass you by blacklisting you & toggling it on & off with your parsing #'s are ignored.

Blacklisting a player doesn't stop them from finding you. Once I had person that was harassing me. I blacklisted him and made sure wasn't in any linkshell's with him but he still found me after I did a race change and name change was some how able to still chat with me even after he was on my blacklist. I'm pretty sure if blacklist them it doesn't remove you from there friends list but only from yours. Finally had to have a GM take care of it. You still get blacklisted players in your party sometimes from duty finder. Blacklisting needs fixed.

Nope. I think Barraind might have cracked it. I don't think they like the fact that the blacklister (to borrow DumdogsWorld's helpful terminology) can un-blacklist the blacklistee just long enough to taunt them, and then re-blacklist them before they have a chance to respond.

If that's the case, then my take is that if you're unwilling to blacklist someone harassing you because you want the opportunity to retaliate, then it's that's on you.

I wasn't inserting my opinion into it one way or another, since I have little experience with the blacklist system outside of blocking RMT spammers. I was just reading it literally.

They dont allow both Way Friendlist removal or Both way Blacklisting Because of "social" reasons but restrict how many of your Friends you can take into pvp. I think we're looking for the H-word we are not allowed to use.

Because sometimes, you do a group thing together and you want to make sure several people in that group are blacklisted for incidents that may have happened during said group thing. Very common in clear/farm parties.

Also helps to declutter spam from your city state chat.

I can give you 2 Examples...
- Hunts don't bring out the best in people. Things don't have to be aimed at me for folks to get B-Listed. If I see some 'toxic' things being said to anyone, I probably wouldn't want to speak to them.

- Folks who s- talk others in Trials/Dungeons/Anything. Again, doesn't need to be aimed at me, but if I see that kind of behavior I don't want to deal with it in any capacity anymore.

Used to be possible, but the name display changes with the world visit system took that away. Don't see what the issue with Character Name@Server is tho, it throws an invalid player name error, but /tell works with it (if cross-world tell conditions are met).

Can't see that ever being fixed tho, you can't have blist brigading as easily now, for better or for worse.

Wait... you can't blacklist someone who has you blacklisted? Am I reading that right? If true, that's beyond stupid. Why would they set it up that way?

If not true, then what's the problem? O.o
