Character Creation Survey

So whilst playing with character creator the other day (guess who got fantasia for xmas) I found myself wondering which faces were the most and least popular for each of the races. The internet being the internet I assumed this would be exactly the kind of thing someone would have collected previously, but I couldn't find it anywhere, which means I guess I'm kinda duty bound to do it myself.

So I've created two surveys, one for male characters and one for female characters (to make data collection a bit easier). If folks could fill them out I'd really appreciate it, and if I get enough results to be a reasonable data set I'll, dunno, put some results/graphs up or something?

So, I have two characters. Both are male Keepers of the Moon (miqo'te). My main uses face #4, and my alt uses face #2.

When I create characters, I pretty much base them off my RPG characters. My alt was supposed to be a male viera when they announced viera was a thing (but before they announced viera would be female-only), and I had planned to just Fantasia him when viera came out. If male viera ever became a thing, I'd still go for the more masculine/older face for that particular character.

For my main, he's younger but still an adult. So, I went with #4 because facially, it looked most like him with some jaw/nose/eyebrows/etc. adjustments.

I really wish they had these statistics. FFXI used to have that info available but I suppose it's more difficult to tally when players can just fantasia to change it anytime. It'd still be interesting to see a general average though.

I don't remember having ever seen a female Elezen player. I don't remember seeing female Roe either, but they do look like female Hyur so IDK.

They really don't though? Different body shapes, heights, faces, postures, and even skin tones.

That said I'm not too surprised by these numbers. There likely would be more female elezen if they weren't jipped in terms of what facial features we have offered. Two faces with the other two basically being make-up wearing variants isn't enough to encourage variety. Couple that with the 'giraffe' neck and I can see why the general population isn't too fond of them. I do miss mine though a good deal... :<

I responded for both my characters. I don't really have an argument for the face preferences I picked lol. I just liked them the best. Good luck on compiling your information! :)

Edit: My Seeker is face #2, and my Veena is face #1 if anyone is curious.

I tried playing elezen but it felt really weird to be a burly job like MNK or WAR. They look frail.

I had to go to the character creation to see what face I have as I don’t remember what number he was.

The female replies have already doubled the male replies. That’s interesting as I thought the genders was almost 50/50.

I thought any time we have taken data from active players, we got something either 2:1 or 3:2 depending on what period of time it is being sampled.

I wish you could choose Au Ra face and horns separately. I understand the reason behind it, but I would have liked to use face #1 with the forward-curving horns from face #4. I ended up picking the face over horns and went with #1.

I would like to have the horns from face #1 myself, but I personally don't like the face of face #1, the super pointy chin weirds me out. At least the fins are pretty interesting to look at on face #2

I think they would like to some day improve character creation. From what I could tell there is a lot of hefty internal workings they have been compounding on over the years making it hard for something as simple as the Hotlander beard to be made an option for midlander men. Like it would be something where they address a very expensive (in terms of developer resources) problem, and suddenly things will become much easier and more modular. Probably some nightmare of spaghetti code like a lot of FFXIV.

Maybe when they release on PS5 and XBox systems the FFXIV team can sit on Mama Square-Enix's lap and ask for a budget to bring in some support dedicated to software renewal, and then we can have such luxuries as more control over character parameters like au ra horn customization or muscle definition as an option for more women. As it is right now, the way the game works and the scope of how much data they are allowed to define for character actors, expansion is difficult.

I went with a classic ronso look. But as of right meow going with my hamurai jack glam.

This has been something that I have been wondering about since shadowbringers launch. We've just had a hugely successful expansion launch making tons of money and a lot of fresh blood are coming in, yet there are tons of long term issues that are expensive in terms of dev resources that we just haven't had a peep about and coupled with poorly thought out design decisions at this rate all that will happen is the game will decline in 6.0 instead of continue to improve. It is known that SE has a relatively small team for an mmo working on ff14 and sure its devs work really hard (remember we weren't supposed ot get any headgear at all and the devs went behind Yoshi-ps back to get 700 ish items working) but it surely is about time FF14 got some more support from SE

the game needs a funding boost to address some longstanding issues. Hell, it deserves one anyway for doing so well with SHB

I feel like face 1 is the most popular for female Au Ra by a significant margin while there's a fairly balanced amount of the others.

I picked face 1 for my female Au Ra. At first I wasn't sure which one to pick. I wanted to use face 3 at first but didn't like the horns as much as the horns of the other faces. I knew I wouldn't pick face 2 because I didn't like the mouth at all. In the end I picked face 1 because I really liked the eyes, and the rest was also ok. I prefer the head/jaw shape of the other faces though, and would have liked to have the eyebrows of face 2. Face 4 was a close second, but I didn't like the lips as much.
So for me it was:
Face 1: best eyes, good horns, nose, scales and mouth, okayish eyebrows, bad face shape
Face 2: best eyebrows, good nose and face shape, okayish horns and scales, bad lips
Face 3: good mouth, nose and face shape, okayish eyes, eyebrows and scales, bad horns
Face 4: good horns, face shape, nose and eyes, okayish eyebrows, scales and lips
