Looking to clarify something

Hello, new player here and im trying to find out if this is true.

Someone told me i could quest for all of my gear in ffxiv. My ls isnt very helpful and no one will answer me on this so i came to as you guys. Is this true? and if so how do i go about doing this?

Im stilling running around with lv 8 gear at 15 lol

some leves and sidequest will reward gear. but the best way is leveling DoL and DoH, it might take time,but it will benefit you in the future. if your main class is cnj, you can try to level weaver (for robe,hat,pants) , leatherworker (gloves,boots) and crp/gsm (weapon/accessories). you can level botanist and miner to support that, for weaver usually u need to farm sheep.

Yar, the gear which is questable is job-specific equipment. Cnj gets the stone to turn into whm, and there is an armor set for whm that is questable and only wearable on whm. That equipment, however, can't be worn til 45+. Until then you'll have to buy or make whatever gear you need, or find someone who'll make it for you or so on aside from the sparse gear drops from leves.

There are also items you can get from mid-level dungeons like Totorak (instanced dungeon in the Black Shroud) and Shposhae (non-instanced dungeon in La Noscea).

Well... there's a pretty long-running debate over what gear is even necessary below ~40, since levels are pretty fast in parties. Without materia, lower-leveled gear (other than the weapon) often doesn't even provide enough of a bonus to make it "necessary" considering that it'll probably only last you ~3 parties. Don't get me wrong, it definitely helps, but you have to consider the cost (in time or money) and whether it's worth it. People won't normally kick someone out of an exp party for low gear, within reason. Level 40 with Level 8 gear would be pretty bad, but Level 15 with Lv.8 gear shouldn't bother anyone. If you're level 35 and wearing Lv.25 pants, but there's no gear between 25-35 that provides more of the stats you need, just stick with what you have. I wouldn't upgrade for defense alone. And if it's going to cost you more than you think it's worth for +1 or +2 MND, you can probably skip it, as well. Tanks are the exception; if you plan on getting hit, your gear definitely does matter.

There are a lot of drops from open-world NMs that have green names, and are definitely worth getting for the way up. For Conjurer, I would ask your LS to help you get:

• [item=8032301]Loyalist's Bliaud[/item], a Lv.30 body from Downy Dunstan (Lv.42)
• [item=8010130]Divining Hat[/item], a Lv.30 hat from Bardi (Lv.42)
• [item=5030112]Bloodcry[/item], a Lv.35 staff from Spitfire (Lv.47)

I'd also say accessories are useful. You should try for

• Pearl Choker (Lv.38)
• Mind Rings (Lv.29,39,49)

Other than that I wouldn't worry yourself trying to fill in other slots; just buy what you can afford and keep your weapon up to date. There's a plethora of nice items from Toto-rak (Lv.25 dungeon) and Shposhae (Lv.15 dungeon) but in the time it took you to get them, you would probably already be Lv.35.

I'm sure I forgot something, and don't take everything I say as perfect. ^^;

Thanks guys for the info on this, i figured doing DoL and DoH were the way to go with getting gear. I actually am planning to do some of that before i get my first 50 DoW.

Plus it will give me time to work on what i want to level, its between mrd and cnj atm. Im doing armorsmithing hoping that works out. Not sure if i should do blacksmith instead for money.

I'm hoping they meant it's the way to go to make the GIL to buy the gear. Don't level up a craft to make them yourself, that'd be stupid.

You don;t need to level DOL or DOH all of your gear can be easily obtained by regular old town quests and guildleves combined with "company issued" stuff from your grand company of choice. There is NO reason to buy gear, for a job under level 40.

See this is what i heard in my ls, but im not really sure where to even start looking for these quests. They seem to be spread out everywhere with no rhyme or reason, no central hub as you will. And there really isnt any other efficient way to my knowledge of finding out which quest gives what unless i go town by town and quest by quest until i find a set i want.

Use the internets bro lol.....

there are a couple of wiki's that can tell you every quest and all it's rewards ^^

Barring that just do your leves for the day...then take a swing through town and look for big """"!"""" above someones head. They will automatically show up when you are the appropriate level. And the rewards are perfect for your class and level.

You can farm the lower-tier NM's with a small group when you get a bit higher for some gear that should take you from 35-50. I only say this because by the time you hit 45 you are looking at a 2-4 hour grind to nail 50.

Some other tips:

1. Find a better linkshell suited to your situation. Get in an "up and coming" LS and build relationships through the journey together. Some people believe MMO to be all about end-game but I value the "multiplayer" concept.
2. If you can't find one, make your own and invite people you party with!
3. Be helpful when you can. Even offering to help goes a long ways because, to your amazement, people will a) pay it back someday and b) hopefully they will pay it forward.
4. Don't get caught up in the rush to hit 50 - enjoy the aspects of the game that you want to at the pace that you want to.
5. Use the seek function and also use the /sh method in uldah to build parties.
6. Be honest if you don't know. Pretending will only get you in hot water. Tonight we responded to a moogle /sh and four people said it was their first time. We won 4/5 which is pretty nice for a pick-up group but only because we knew what we had on our hands.
7. Kind of the same as 6 but ask if you don't know. If someone is a doosh then they aren't really worth playing with to begin with.
8. Level a DoL to make cash. The money isn't in cars - it's in oil. Raw materials fetch way more money (generally) then finished items. Exceptions are potions and high-level food.

Some very sound advice. Do NOT pick up a DoH to make gil. It is an abnormal spatial tear in space time but the classes meant to create gil actually consume it like a financial blackhole.

Gathering classes pump out straight profit and only require an investment of time, which is what you're in for synth away in Uldah anyways, and can be sold to either players or NPC's quickly. You won't get as much gil compared to high level crafting BUT you can start making a return on investment within days instead of weeks and honestly it doesn't take that much money to level up. You can go from 1-50 on most classes for only about 250k which is more then obtainable between leves and selling shines you find.

Before AH crafting was still a tremendous risk and only had real payoffs for the high level players or the clever ones. If you cannot figure out how I made 2.7 mil gil selling items all below Lvl.28 in 2 days then I sure as crap ain't gunna tell you. Now that AF is a comfortable replacement for melded gear and can only be truly bested by high risk double or triple melds the economy has kinda tanked. Getting into it now is like swimming up a waterfall. Just go fool around and live cheaply. The gil will follow after you have your first 50 DoW or DoM.

Others have covered the gear question pretty well but I wanted to suggest you find additional linkshells, you can hold several pearls.

A good LS can make or break your enjoyment in this game. Post in your server forum for help. Also, some people reported success shouting for a newbie friendly shell in Ul'dah.
