Curiosity strikes me: Do you use the 'Join Party in Progress' option in the DF?

Hello everyone!

Short explanation
I'm here to basically ask around if you the players use the... well, obviously the thing is in the title of this thread. Anyways, if you would, could you answer with Yes or No at the start of your post and then please tell me your reasons why you do or do not use the option.

Now for the long part.
While I haven't been actively playing for very long (8-9 months or so), I've noticed that sometimes you get into a duty that just 'dies' - as in, people leave and you cannot get replacements at all and simply have to abandon it then requeue.
As a tank or healer, requeueing isn't too much of an issue most of the time. For DPS, however, it can be rather painful. If you're trying to simply get the duty finished for quests or for the sake of getting that sweet role bonus, you kind of want to complete it.
While I do understand that many people who've played a while do have a tank, healer, and DPS role available, I also get that not everyone does - especially new players who might not have a tank or healer role leveled.
So, I'm wondering why some people do use it or why some people feel no reason to use it.

If I queue into a duty that’s almost finished, then I get a full reward for it, even though I only complete some of the duty. Good reward-to-time ratio.

Yeah. I've found the reason these slots open up are usually because someone didn't like the dungeon they got and figured the 30 minute penalty was worth it or because the party wasn't uber elite and their entitled self couldn't be bothered associating with them another moment. Either way I get to queue, they get a full party again, and the relief experienced usually lends itself to a pleasant chat.

Yes, easy rewards for near completed duties.
Pint I’m quick to leave a failing party that was the original reason others lost.

It really comes down to if it’s a dungeon or trial.

Nah. I used to, but i've since found that there usually is a reason the party is down a member.

Yes - I like being able to step in and help people where they need it. Getting an easy duty is nice, but so is being the person that the others have been waiting for.

Sometimes there's someone dreadful in the party, but at least as often it's the dreadful one who was kicked or didn't have patience and left.

even had a 38 minute in duty Titania NM once

Yup. Just had a A12 fight with four new people. It was a healer and 3 DPS. They wiped once and everyone bailed. The party refilled relatively quickly and we killed it no problem. From my experience they leavers were looking for a carry and didn't get it.

Also I've been on the receiving end and waiting on a healer that never shows up, so I always make sure I have to have that box checked if I'm on my SCH. And even if it is the tanks fault, I'm fairly confident in my healing to get us through roulette.

Theres a reason the party has an opening. That reason might have left, but i have no way of knowing that.

Role bonus requires you to finish. But if youre just trying to clear a quest or unlock you can always skip the DF entirely. Put up a PartyFinder group for the run you want(mention having bonus if its your first clear). More likely to get people who want to finish/help you with the run.

Yes, absolutely. A bunch of my stories in the Tales From Duty Finder thread often involve me being a fill for some party of another. I usually ask what happened to the person I'm filling in for, but sometimes I forget. Usually the missing player got kicked for being an asshole.

Yeah, easy roulette rewards for half a low level dungeon most of the time. I don't often get put in parties with assholes (for lack of a better term) either as they've most likely been kicked, and even if I do get a party with assholes I can just leave or vote to kick, 30 min penalty isn't a big deal to me.

I've used it for several years now. Most times it is not clear why the person I replaced has left, and other times is glaringly obvious but not exactly bad enough where I will leave. I LOVE getting join in progress as a healer though, because I know which dungeons it could possibly be XD. Yesterday I had the shortest JIP ever, SASTASHA at the last boss lol. I literally did nothing but dps because the tank needed no healing.

Yeah, started using it last ~2months or so and haven't gone back.

The only duty I've seen "die" like you said is the Castrum MSQ roulette, because some people are just mean and have delusions that a certain other one is "better" and worth taking a penalty for. After a long delay, even that one eventually refilled with enough essential roles to continue.

I myself have queued as a tank filler for one of those ragequit Castrums some minutes in, and totally fine w/ missing the first 100k xp or so.

Sometimes I ask nicely for the reason the last person left, and most often the response I got was "an emergency". At least on my server, people are generally kind and rarely stop to votekick someone from their party -- that person would have had to do quite a lot and many times to trigger people enough to kick for troll reasons, or afk quite a while for afk reasons.

I usually always have it checked. Many times I zone it and the party is already on the last boss which is nice. Had this happen in Alliance raid and its the best.

Since realizing it was an option, I've almost always kept it on. Exceptions being when new content releases, as I want to experience it in its entirety including opening cutscenes, and during a recent event (was it moogle tomestones?) since you wouldn't get event rewards for in progress runs. As others have said, I'm often joining perfectly capable parties. Sometimes I'm told the person I'm replacing disconnected, or that they had to leave suddenly for reasons. Other times its clear I'm replacing a problem player (either someone who caused multiple wipes, or someone with a bad attitude). Very rarely am I joining a bad party, and it seems to be nearly exclusively trials when that does happen.

Probably an easy way to farm coms for mentor status since a lot of the time you're replacing a bad player, plus it also seems just like a kind thing to do: helping out stranded players to get the job done.

Never actually, though there's no real reason for it. I think I had only around 3 runs, maybe a little more, where a party member actually left in the midst of it, including one weird Castrum run where people left in swarms as soon as it started (the only Castrum roulette run where it happened xD). One was a healer who seemed to have left because he either got a missing piece of leveling gear or a required level-up and yesterday a tank who seemed to have disconnected and never came back (or force-quit the game).

The only time I've had 'join party in progress' turned off is when doing the Moogle tomestome events. I've ended up coming in as a dps in partially done dungeons multiple times.

Usually leave it on, aside from the moogle tome events. Or if I forget to turn it on when leveling an alt.

Most of the time it seems like someone just DC'd and had to be kicked, so i can skip a chunk of a dungeon/raid and get full rewards quicker. If it's because someone in the party left is bad, depending on my role, I find we can still get through.

Yep, it's mostly pretty good (especially for DPS jobs).

But there is always the 1/10 chance of it being a total disaster instead of a 'boss only run'. And if that happens, you are in for one damn wild ride.

All the time. Especially with roulettes. Get in one for the final boss, get my daily rewards, and leave. Quick and easy. It's even funnier when it happens on a HARD mode of an easy dungeon (final boss), AND a regular dungeon (halfway) of the same name. [EX: Copperbell Mines]
