Ground Target Hold & Release?

Do you think it would be a good quality of life change to implement a ground targeting option, such as instant casting Salted Earth where your mouse is; holding and releasing where you are putting asylum, and of course keeping the classic style we are all using right now(i.e. press Shukuchi, click where you are going)?

As a side question, would you want an option to lock your ground targeting to maximum range if your mouse goes over the range limit? Example: you quickly need to Shukuchi, so you press it and click but you are too far out of range, so you have to search for the maximum range, whereas this option would just snap it to max range for that specific ability.

Either having it activate at maximum range if you use it out of range, or having a clamping system (where the targeting area can't leave its logical range) would help tremendously.

What the above poster said, and/or a proper @cursor one input press method would make the most sense.

I am not much knowledgable in macro stuff, and this will probably look like a silly question, but is it possible to sort of have such covered by a macro, like casting salted earth on active target?

Something like this is in many MOBAs (LoL, HoTs, etc), and I'd really like the "smart cast" feature~!

Where you can press the ability and let go and it'll cast at your mouse position, or if too far the furthest it can reach in that direction. But if you HELD the ability key you could aim and hover the AoE reticle about, casting simply being letting go of the key, and if you wanted to cancel it you can just right click.

I have such a macro for Asylum, cast on target. No clue about Salted Earth but it should be the same for all ground targeted skills.

I hate ground targetting because it's too clunky and takes too much time, so anything that makes it better is welcome on my end.

It is possible via adding a target command on a macro, that turns it into a single click cast on target, bypassing the ground select. Tho it does have limits, on the ninja's Shukuchi jump abil for example, when doing it manually choosing location you can jump anywhere, with the macro you can only jump to what you have targeted.

This one casts salted earth at the location of your current target with a single ability press, bypassing the ground aiming.

/micon "Shukuchi"
/ac "Shukuchi" <t>
This one turns ninja's jump into a one click jump to target, but as mentioned above, at the cost of not being able to manual aim and jump anywhere you want.

Any ground target cast can be turned into a cast on target with the <t> modifier, just beware some it is a huge qol improvement for the ability,others it is a trade off between quick cast and loosing some of the utility available using manual target. You need to decide on a per skill basis wether to t modify it, leave it as it is or use an extra still bar button to have both versions.

I would deffinatly be up for the insta cast where your mouse is suggestion for targeting the op made, the method as it stands is rather clunky and could use some streamlining.

I just want targeted abilities to be able to be cast at a second click of the key. Tired of trying to click with the mouse and clicking on a person or mob (especially in 24 man content).

Which is why I've essentially used <t> macros for most of them.

I hope it happens honestly. Like it'd seriously be such a big help as a customized function

Yes. As with all macros, you can't queue it, though.

Max range would work for me. Just keep the target reticle from exceeding max range. This way, you could just hold it there as you run toward whatever, and click when it gets there, instead of having to feel out the max range every time, and missing it half the time.
