Just discovered the lvl 80 job quests

I just found the level 80 jobs quests (Drg, Whm, and Blm).
Gotta say I really enjoyed these. It was a nice change of pace going back and speaking with characters from my past travels. It'd be fun if there was more quests like these - just story without always fixing problems by stabbing things.

Shame there's nothing similar for the Crafters or Gatherers. Lemme tell Fufucha about

how I discovered the Loch Ness monster.

The lvl 80 job quests were much better than the role quests too imo. Job quests don't need to be all pew pew and stabby stabby, sometimes just a short story is enough. And the ones I played, were done extremely well. Even the less likable characters were not as bad (looks at little girl in rdm quests). I honestly didn't want to throw a one over a cliff this time lol

The role quests delved too deep into the RP battle thing. I don't mind these sort of quests, but on average, they drug on way to long for no real reason. Just gimme something quick to kill, I am more interested in the story than pushing 2 buttons for 10 minutes.

Story is exactly what the lvl 80 quests delivered on.

To be honest I found them to be unexpectedly short.

A few were really good tbh. I think Paladin, AST, and SCH were probably my favorite so far... also enjoyed the WHM and BRD ones.

Dancer had a cool cutscene... but their story overall felt pretty eh to me. The L80 one was one of the least eh though so it's got that going for it.

Wait they still have our job quests? I thought they replaced it with role.
I did not know this...Where do I start them?

You need to complete all the Role quests for that Job's role as well as completing SHB's main scenario, then you just go back to where your Job NPC was originally and speak to them (like, for the PLD level 80 Job quest it's Jenlyns in Ul'dah's Hustings Strip).

It's not a full questline, just a single quest at level 80. They're treated as sidequests rather than job quests, so they don't show up on the 'quest tracker' bar.

As Enkidoh said above, you'll need to finish your role quest and MSQ, then speak to your job tutor.

Out of the few I've done so far, I found MCH and WHM to be pretty solid. RDM was pretty short and disappointing, which is a shame because I had really enjoyed the job quests for RDM all through SB only to finally see the characters again but have really nothing at all happen.

I didn't realize there was a job quest at all either until I happened to end up in Mor Dhona for some reason after hitting 80 on my RDM and seeing the new quest marker there. They really should have sign posted this better.

I only have tank left to do but the role quests have been up and down so far. I really liked the healer role quest and even the RP segment was a fun distillation of being a healer that didn't last longer than it needed to. The caster role was fairly meh. It was a decent enough storyline on it's own but when viewed in a larger context just felt like a truncated redux of what was basically the same story we'd already seen before in the job quests for several roles going all the way back to ARR. The DPS role was, to my tastes, kind of trash. I liked the hunter that we followed the story of but just found Reeq such an annoying host that he pretty much ruined any promise the quest chain had.

Despite the length, I felt the DRK story was perfect closure. Made even better at how the journal dialog changes if you have your job stone on/off. Have not done my other jobs at 80, because unfortunately their stories overall were just bleh.

Each one of the gives out 3 grade VIII materia so there is some worth in doing them. I also suspect that the 6.0 role quests will have the various class and job NPCs teaming up.

What would be absolutely rad would be the former cross class jobs. PLD/WHM (Because GLD/CNJ), ect. And the jobs after that obsolete system getting interesting team ups like MCH/DRK, DNC/SAM.

Well, Curious Gorge is still ridiculously lame, but I wasn't really bothered by anyone else aside from him.

The level 80 quests are short and sweet. DRK is still my favorite out of the ones I’ve done thus far, and I feel like it won’t be topped. But I’m a huge fan of the DRK storyline in general.

Dark Knight was great. The rest kinda vary in quality. Putting some thoughts in spoiler tags, so beware.

Dancer's cutscene was great, although I didn't find the job story as a whole to be very compelling.

Summoner was less about the job than a follow-up on Arenvald and Fordola. It wasn't bad, but it had basically nothing to do with the job. Really should've just been a normal sidequest.

Paladin felt more like a Gladiator quest again. Eh.

Warrior gave me a chuckle, but poor Curious Gorge really needs to actually get some development if he's gonna show up again. He's gone through the same arc three times now.

Machinist was fun, seeing Joye and Hilda interact (and Hilda's hilarious reaction to Joye's "transformation". Talk to her in the Brume afterwards, she's still confused).

Bard wasn't bad. When are Sanson and Guydelot gonna hook up, though?

Dragoon was an interesting look at Nidhogg from the other side of the War. Although, again, I think it could've been a normal sidequest.

Monk was a good piece of closure and peace for Widargelt. I do love that he actually admitted his own backstory to Lyse, rather than trying to hide it and have it erupt into drama later.

Ninja was funny, even if Karasu's disguises are still as thinly-veiled as ever.

I've only done the ones for DRG and SMN so far, but I did enjoy both. I was also pleasantly surprised they either caught up with or brought closure to things from the MSQ involving certain characters. For SMN, while we did get some of the info involved already from last year's Tales of the Storm, it was nice to see this actually touched on in-game.

Also as someone sitting on thousands of hunt seals and dozens of clusters, I am far from wanting any more materia.

I was really disapointed by the paladin one. Just like with SB it was more a gladiator story than a paladin one. I'm never going to get a paladin questline where we go around doing free paladin knight errant type stuff am I? ARR was okay, HW was weird and convoluted and all about restoring a sword where the moral of the ARR story was the sword wasn't important, and then SB and SHB are really more about the gladiator characters.

DRK and BRD were my favorites as always, simply because of the characters involved.

Dealing with the virtues made sense in ShB context but I still hope SE continues re-visiting the job NPCs and their storylines in future expansions, even if it's not a part of leveling.

The Warrior quests can basically be summed up as

It's because they are meant to be like that, just a small "epilogue-ish" detail for the jobs in ShB... So much that their icons are of regular quests (hence why maybe a lot of people miss them out)

I liked HW because it was just as much about the sword as it was Solkzagyl still wanting to recover the blade as actual symbolism of himself as training a new Paladin and empowering someone to be able to do good. Got Constainte was so shafted in SB...


But yeah, I have been extremely disappointed with the PLD quests defaulting back to the goddamn Gladiator quests. It's getting boring. We already did a Tournament Arc, and the last quest didn't even let me beat the crap out of that blockhead! He just sees me and realizes he sucks and like. At least let me dropkick him? Once?

I want actual Paladin Quests. Not "Let's go back to the Gladiator Guild!"


God, even us trying to unwravel corruption in Ul'dah (hah the entire city's corrupt I know) where the Sultansworn can't would be awesome. We go be Knight Errants around Thanalan, taking down corruption and trying to make things better within the law, unrestricted by red tape.

I actually liked the PLD one, less for the PLD-side of the quest (there was none) but more for the spiritual behavior and mindset of Aldis. Actually not having to fight in this situation was something refreshing, as we are not dealing with an hothead wanting to prove himself but with someone with enough self-awareness to find himself lacking.

But what I don't like about it was the same Aldis standing at the gladiator gild after the quest, offering to fight me anytime I want when I talk to him now. It's like the quest never happend.

In general, I've found the lvl 80 job quests to be kinda meh, little more than "so, what are the NPCs you met in previous quests up to now?"

DRK was probably the strongest; I thought it was neat to be reintroduced to NPCs that were sort of incidental to our journey, rather than central to it. People who were little more than objects to us, things that needed to be saved, were given a bit more agency and personality. I felt that playing up the humanity of the rescuees was an important component to the overall lesson of the Dark Knight quests, that we're more than some kind of "hero machine" serving a thankless and entitled populace (insert coin to fight evil).

And while the DNC lvl 80 story was pretty lackluster, I really liked the dance sequence. It was well done.

At this point I've just given up hope of getting to do anything like this when in Stormblood, while there's a war going on, we're just...having a tournament instead of doing something actually useful, like defending refugees or something. Doesn't help that there weren't even really any stakes. No actual prize in lore (though of course gameplay wise we get the artifact armor and level 70 skill), and the only stakes were what's his name getting blackmailed into leaving the tournament. Oh no.

As a gladiator story 1 to 30 it would have been okay I guess, but it just really hurt to see that's what we got in SB.

I am so heavily disappointed that paladins yet again get nothing about being a paladin and we go back to the gladiator guild to have even that kinda end fairly poorly.
I like the machinist's one for the most part in checking back in with old peeps.
The scholar one felt like I actually did something in these things beside reminisce about past stuff.
The summoner one I liked well enough but... to actually understand why it's happening I feel you needed to read the random side stories (Tales From the Storm) that were published on the website and not in game...

All that info was a copy/paste from the 5.0 patch notes. I haven't leveled nin, but the ones I have, have been correct. so idk what's going on with that. All it says on the patch notes for requirements are...
- Players must first complete the job quest "When Clans Collide," the level 80 physical DPS role quest, and the main scenario quest "Shadowbringers"

It is in the boat house, you need to enter, it not shows on the map itself if you only ported on the map that is. Overall, check your last quest entry in your quest log for ninja.
