Scholars still need help in PvP

The changes to Sch were ok, needed changes but the changes were *too* small. The amount of damage output and burst is so high a sch can't even keep up with the damage unlike the other two healing jobs. The sch still needs to be *offensive* to get his most important skill to work "Summon Seraph" but unlike his counterpart the white mage, can pretty much keep their team up with a mix of Cure 2&Afflatus solace spam while able to burst someone up from the bleak of death, but while as a SCH, i struggle even to get their health back up or myself for that matter. A white mage and AST both they have a powerful cool down skill on DEMAND to use to burst heal while a sch has none unless they dps for it, leaving them at a disadvantage at the start of any match.


1. Adloquium heals for too low thus makes the shield too weak to protect the person, bump up the cure potency to 2,500 and increase the mana cost at least, punish the sch for using it too much allowing them the choice of it or Physick. This will allow the SCH to get *time* on dps if you gonna make them dps to get their gauge up. YES I know the skill is equal to a cure 2, 2000 potency heal + 2000 shield = 4000 potency but the problem is the amount send out = the amount time needed to dps.

2. Summon seraph needs to be changed BIG TIME,. It needs to be available from the START of the match. Its isn't fair that this healer out of the 3 needs to be *working* on gaining *half* their gauge to use one of their burst cooldowns unlike White mage Temperance or AST. This leaves the healer at a disadvantage at the start of the match or fight wither it be frontlines or the feast.

3. BUFF the seraphs HEAL! IF you gonna make me "DPS" for my ***ulitmate*** skill, at least make it where it heals more than my adloquium. 2000 potency heal is too little on the amount of work for the payoff, this goes back to my first problem (The heal is too little for the little amount of time for me to dps to even *GET* my gauge for the amount of damage output being put out in pvp.

4. Buff Excogitation to have a shorter cooldown, 35 seconds is too long for a 3000 potency heal, while a white mage Afflatus solace can have 3 charges, have the same amount of potency, shorter cooldown (10 seconds for per lily) AND gives them a regen.

5. BUFF FOCALIZATION, I can not stress that enough. Both white mage and sch have the same increase 20% healing skill, same timer BUT big difference in the two is that white mages also have a 10% reduce damage TO THE WHOLE PARTY! while the SCH only increases healing by 20%. Now, I know what you are thinking "But Pinkie, your seraph also creates a shield on a target it heals hur hur huurr." PROBLEM! it requires me(again) to gain gauge for me to use it, I don't have it at the start of the match and it doesn't heal the whole party with a powerful heal, only *one* target it *thinks* needs a heal unlike wings which instantly gave the group 10% reduce damage.


The Feast coming soon and once again, like you saw last season and the season before that of seeing nothing but AST, now you will see White mages and (maybe) AST but no SCH cause as soon you see a SCH on the other team, its a instant win. nobody will play SCH competitively with how it is now. Please, what are your guys thoughts on SCH, what changes need to happen cause lord knows I've given up on SCH at this point.

I remember discussing Scholar a lot at fan gathering, because personally it's one of my favourite jobs in the game but has had very few good seasons where it's been enjoyable to play. It's rarely been awful, it's just never been nearly as good as the other options.

1) Adlo is fine potency wise. The issue is the mana cost. WHM has better MP management, and Astrologian gets Aspected Benefic from Neutral Sect which theoretically is an MP saver. Both of those handle mana-less healing better than Scholar. So either we need the ability to cast Faerie abilities without one (akin to how they reworked Summoner's pets/trances in PvP), or the mana cost has to be lower. Adlo is too expensive to cast and Physick is intentionally weak. Lustrate and Excog remain the only ST instant heals avaliable to Scholar, but with no way of reducing their cooldown are extremely pricy to use and if your team doesn't not apply enough pressure through Biolysis, you will lose. The intention was clearly to allow Scholar to shield and then damage behind the shield where possible, but there's simply too much damage in the game to reliably take advantage of this design. The issue is if Scholar can do too much damage behind shields, then certain LP comps will be far too strong.

2) Seraph should just be removed at this point. Pets in PvP don't work. They barely work in PvE as it is sometimes. At fangathering I had a discussion with Clem about the state of Scholar and both of us agreed mechanically the issue with pets in PvP.

3) See 2. Remove Seraph, give us something else. Maybe Dissipatation resetting lustrate and excog at the cost of gauge.

4) Solace isn't comparable. Excog can save you or a range from a limit break because the heal tends to land before the follow-up damage, tick-wise. With Solace you do not have that same safety net guarantee. The larger issue is how quickly Lilies regenerate. Lilies have plagued the job's balance in PvP for a while now.

5) Focalisation is fine.

6) Scholar should get ED.

and you said it was untrue with AST controlling the ladder, last I saw, you saw very very few white mages and nothing but AST cause AST just had too OP of a kit in pvp

Well Focalization does increase hp recovered from pots + other self healing skills. Idk about bloodbath/nascent.

I feel like your main goal is to keep seraph out 100% of the time, while weaving healing ogcd's between broils/bio's to heal most of the damage output.

My fastest method to summon seraph at the start of the match is put bio on 3 enemies, while weaving ogcds to heal, then try to hit 2+ people with aura blast, should net you 50-70 fairy gauge all together in the first 7-10 seconds of the fight.
For additional I usually bring largese and atunement. I mainly use atunement for when I see feint on me or phantom dart/trick attack. If they cc you after the 3 secs, purify for 4000 hp.
I try to get Fae gauge to 100 for the full 22 secs but it's really a challenge.

Biggest issue for me is adlo spam + mp starvation lol.
I think indom should have 3 charges.

The last time sch was good, was when we had all of our abilities in HW/ARR, and there were still spell interrupts from incoming damage in PvP, which shields would protect against. Ever since they changed that, SCH has been the lesser of the heals, and need help.

5) You don't compare the similar CDs, you compare overall toolkits.
6) Energy Drain - this would probably solve a lot of MP issues.

I took the liberty of doing a healer breakdown for the last 2 seasons on my DC as per top 100:
S13
AST - 4
WHM - 5

S12
AST - 5
WHM - 9
SCH - 1

That to me, hardly looks like "seeing nothing but AST" and "AST controlling the ladder"

I think Adloquium should grant "Next Physick can be instant casted".
I literally never use physick, and this would make it actually useful.

Instant physick would allow you to double weave some healing ogcd's and some much needed movement, while saving mp and preventing adlo spam, which feels horrible.

For example, Cast adlo + instant physick proc. That's 4000hp + 2000 shield. After both you're able to move and weave any ogcd.

Not comparable, ED has 2 charges and the target has to be near dead to get max potency out of it. Which on a range especially, is highly improbable lol.
Lustrate has 3 charges and will give 3k potency heal regardless.
Scholar has an AoE instant, theoretically, Astrologian does not outside of Abridged and Celestial Opposition. CO is much stronger than Indom, but Indom has a lower CD, isn't countered by Wither and obviously also isn't a flat heal and the strength of it is extremely conditional.
Scholar has a safety net in Excog, Astrologian doesn't have this at all.
Focalization. Astrologian doesn't have anything like this as the healing has partially been sacrificed for offensive pressure.

However Astrologian is the stronger healer because the offensive pressure is just that much better, but the weakness is if it falls behind/team plays too defensive it's pretty horrible. It's not as strong as you think it is and you'd only have to play a few customs with good players to see why WHM is still a meta pick because it's extremely safe to play with way better MP regen. The larger issue with Scholar is SE keep insisting on making it some kind of gimmick healer but since HW the job hasn't been deep enough to really play on SE's perception of how they want it to play so the end result is a job they designed to be played offensively but also get punished easily ended up being extremely good at being punished, but awful at playing offensive and as a result, is good at nothing.

I mean for starters you're playing Scholar wrong based on your previous post, but as it's pretty obvious you've been doing just training queue I can't really hold that against you, because there's so much wrong in that post including but not limited to - using aura blast for gauge and not saving it to be used defensively, actually caring about Seraph when it's probably the weakest healing CD in the entire game and not just in PvP either lol (but it's weak in PvP for reasons other than potency), multidotting bio (and then somehow complaining about mana issues, SCH has horrendous mana issues - but this is the worst thing you could possibly do - just bio the kill target lol), and attunement is one of the worst healer CDs in the game especially now. One because ok, I feint you, you attune like you do pretty much every other time, I then hard swap to you with double CC and burst. You have no answer to it because you aura blasted for gauge and we baited your attunement already and you weaved your lustrates whilst applying bio. That is possibly the worst way I've ever heard Scholar being played. Never ever rush Seraph

Biolysis is broken so buffing sch has to be extremely precise or else it would place sch leagues above whm and ast

It's just an unhealthy spot sch is in now where it has the best offensive kit and buffing its heals in a meta where relieving pressure is valuable may suddenly shift sch to godhood, all these potency increases are terrible, more focus on shield potency is a healthier approach but still risky, blame SE for digging their own grave with overloading sch's kit but giving it weak numbers on purpose
