Dancer Questions

Dancer seems largely intuitive but I have two questions about the job.

1. Should standard step be used on cooldown, or should you try and refresh it shortly before the buff falls off?

2. When flourishing, should you use your aoe procs from flourish to fish for fan dance procs on single target, or ignore them and only use your single target procs? What about the single target procs in aoe situations? Is it better on average to fish for the fan dance or just to let the procs fade?

On CD! With a full potency of 1000, Standard Finish is your second best attack! (second behind Technical Finish (1500))

You don't let them fade. Those are massive DPS you would waste. The AOE-Spells are still very good against single targets, especially because they hit with full potency for the first target.

Standard and Technical Finish do massive damage, that's one mistake people make, they treat it just as a buff, but it contributes strongly towards your personal DPS too. So always worth making sure you are in range of the enemy you are attacking and not to use it when there is no enemy to target.

As for the AoEs, this is one place where DNC can be rthymic, I usually en avant to jump in to do my 2 AoEs and jump out. The damage from the AoE is strong enough to be worth while on single target when you Flourish.

And to add on this, during the flourish phase it can be better to use the phase to build your fan dances instead of using them as soon as you get them.

Use Standard Step every 30 seconds on cooldown. The total potency of the skill is very high, making it one of our strongest hits alongside Technical Finish and Saber Dance.

Yes. Rising Windmill is 300 potency and Bloodshower is 350, the same as your single target procs (Reverse Cascade and Fountainfall, respectfully). Since Flourish procs then for free, you should always use them—it’s free damage at zero cost.

In AOE situations, you begin to ignore Reverse Cascade and Fountainfall at 3+ mobs because it’s a higher gain to AOE combo (Windmill > Bladeshower) over pausing to use single-target moves. In addition to this, you stop using Standard Step on cooldown when facing more than 5 mobs at a time, as the gain from your AOE combo and procs is higher than pausing to dance. Just make sure to refresh it before it falls off to maintain the +5% buff!

For your Fourfold Feathers, make sure to stockpile them for your Technical Finish+Devilment windows (it gives them an extra +5% potency plus the +20% increased chance to crit/direct hit), but also be mindful to not overcap on them. Our feather gauge plays a sound now at 4 feathers, so you don’t have to watch it as closely as you did prior to Patch 5.1.

Use on cooldown, unless a fight has missaligned it to be very close to technical cd. Technical before standard unless boss is about to jump.

For single target, Use the aoe procs, aoe + fan > single + no fan. Granted your procs should be used as follows: highest single-> highest aoe -> lowest single -> lowest aoe, this changes if flourish is coming off cd if you are forced away from boss but the procs last long enough to do them all. Just make sure to use all procs, do not let them drop.

For aoe targets, if > 3 enemies just use aoe skills they work out better than single + fan dance II, for 2 or 3 targets use the single procs but use fan dance II over fan dance I if they are close. together

are they the now most popular ranged dps over-taking bard do you think? or with 5.1 bringing back small song buffs do you think perhaps MCH edges out for fun, but overall mostly balanced?
anecdotal but had 14 dnc in 1 raid yesterday lmao, but could just be people finishing off 80's

DNC should be still fairly popular as a new job. But really, it just depends on your playstyle and what you want to do. If you go by personal DMG it's MCH > BRD > DNC, if you go by raidDPS it's DNC > BRD > MCH.

Of course, it also depends on the fight / content.

For example, TpS - the guys with the world first clear in Alexander Ultimate - stated that this is a fight designed for BRD and it's best to bring one over DNC or MCH.

It's a bandwagon job and I don't like that. DNC is seen as the "easy" job, and SS/TS gives the illusion that DNC is real strong - but it actually isn't.

I mean people will pile onto new jobs, especially requested ones. But those people soon die out because they find they enjoy something else more once the novelty has worn off and I think plenty of time has passed for that to be the case.

I still main DNC and I enjoy it and I don't mind the illusion that it is strong, because I know overall its weak in terms of personal DPS, so having the odd powerful nuke can be nice for seeing big numbers because you won't see big numbers in your personal DPS.

How it flows and plays to me feels good, and I am still maining it because of this and have no had the desire to play something else instead. Contrast to my baby, SCH, which I am still not enjoying despite having tried, which is boring to play.

I like DNC a lot tbh: the animations, story, abiities, big bursts of dps, etc... I usually run maps with it because it's mostly just AoE fest, and DNC is pretty amazing in this department.

The only aspect I didn't like, and the reason I never took it as a raiding job is only because the 2 layers of RNG was getting on my nerves... You need to bypass 1 layer of RNG to proc a flourished skill... THEN another layer of RNG for this proc to award a Fourfold Feather

I don't mind procs affecting how good or bad your dps is... But I kind of mind procs affecting if either the gameplay will be smooth like butter or clunky like sandpaper to buttclean.

Aoe gcds besta the single target at 2 please do math for whoever aoe 3>
