Makai stuff missing from Calamity Salvager

Hi there !

I have a rather stupid question but here it is : back in the days, i bought the Makai PvP stuff from the Garo event (healer and ranged).

I stopped the game for a while but when I cam back I realized the stuff is gone, so I thought "lets go check the Calamity salvager".
Nop, nada, nothing Garo related appearing :/

I checked every tab but, even in the Garo tab, nothing is appearing.....so, am I *** or am I missing a tab/vendor somewhere ?

Did you earn the achievements from the Disreputable Priest? If no, then the items won't be available from the Salvager. You have to have earned the achievements when the event was active.

The Garo items were removed as of patch 5.1

Did not, I'm ot a pvp player so I just farmed the pieces I wanted....I guess i'm f*** then Y.Y

most item sold on calamity salvager is tied to achievements
so if you didn't take the garo achievement back then, then sorry to say, the calamity salvager will not sell them to you

The scavenger will only show the items you purchased as well, I never got the jewelry or belts but I can buy all the armor/weapons from having achievement

The belts and jewerly are also not tied to any of the achievments, so there was never the option to buy those back.

I wish there was more of a stink raised about this because all they ever said was "you can buy it back from the Salvager" but never did they mention that you had to get the achievement to actually do this. So when people just bought the pieces they wanted, if they got rid of them for any reason they are gone forever.

Really this is a huge oversight on SE's part. I'm keeping my odds and ends locked away forever. My alt even has a full set with accessories (because it was better than augmented Lore gear back in the day and not locked behind story).

I hope they do this again sometime with another franchise.

It wasn't. I made a post about it precisely because it wasn't to make people aware. It was mentioned (oddly worded) in the patch notes, but telling us by then is obviously too late.

To be fair, this is what the lodestone said: "Gear you have previously earned can still be obtained from the Calamity Salvager after Patch 5.1."

So... it could have been clearer - but it seems also perfectly reasonable on their side to expect that people know how the Salvager works... or to maybe check if they're able to get the gear back from there before the event ends... I'll admit though that its almost naive to expect the playerbase to be reasonable, pay attention or educate themself about such things beforehand...

Players must first obtain the corresponding achievement before they will be able to reobtain any gear.
For example, players wishing to reobtain the Face of the Golden Wolf must first gain the Echoes of the Golden Wolf achievement.

That is a Lodestone article for a patch that is over 2 years old. Do you really expect that all players know all patch notes/Lodestone articles from the last 5 years inside/out ? There are new players that never have looked at those articles.

Patch notes about it from two and a half years ago aren't really relevant for people that weren't playing then. It should've been restated before 5.1.

Honestly for a limited time event they should have made all of these things much easier to obtain/reobtain. For the amount of effort that we put to get everything from Mako it should have been a permanent event like the Monster Hunter event.

But...who knows at this point everyone should try to get the Monster Hunter stuff asap because they might remove it in the future like they did the Mako.

Maybe not - but knowing how the Salvager works is something I feel you can reasonably expect from anyone playing the game long enough to care about the Garo-stuff... or if they dont know the Salvager works, to maybe check wether or not they can re-buy the gear they're intrested in in the 6 months leading up to Garo being discontinued, instead of taking a peak 2 weeks later...

The "limited time" we're talking about here was over 2 years - which is plenty to obtain whatever you wanted from it. They informed us 6 months in advance that the event would end - and even 6 months is plenty of time to collect everything...

They also announced from the very start that it would not stay in the game forever, so it was to be expected that it would be removed at somepoint. This isnt true for Rathalos, which isnt a limited time event but part of the game now. So no, they're not going to remove that (...as you even said yourself...).

I don't think it's too unreasonable for some people who are not aware of the reasons why the salvager works the way it does to think that this could have been different, especially when their announcement post made no reference to the achievement being required, only that you must have "earned" the gear.

I'm always of the mind that you as a player must stay informed if you wish to play a game like this. you are only doing yourself a disservice if you are in the dark about how things work.

Or they could have.. you know, looked into it beforehand? Oh wait, that's tied to doing something themselves.

And I'm of the mind that it's the dev's/community manager's responsibility to make sure they are giving us clear and accurate information, not muddy half-truths.

My girlfriend finished getting all of the achievements required for the mounts just before servers went down for 5.1, expecting to be able to claim 2 of the 3 remaining mounts she needed after servers went up again. She had the achievements and the equipment would be re-obtainable to those of us who had the achievements, so it makes sense, right?

She logged in to find that she couldn't claim her horse mounts despite having the achievements. Similarly, she also has a Whisper-a-Go-Go, and that still appears with Jonathas since she has the required Achievement, but the Garo mounts are nowhere to be found. She contacted a GM and they informed her that she had to claim them before the 5.1 patch came up.

Why is it this way for the Garo mounts, yet people can still claim Whisper-a-Go-Go? Whatever the case, something's wonky and there is no standardization between which rewards based on 3rd-Party Properties stay and which go.

The event you get Whisper from is a recurring one as I understand it. I've seen Yokai Watch happen at least twice since they first introduced it. Not sure how regularly it happens because I usually ignore it (the rewards aren't different--I got what I wanted the first time around). Maybe that is the reason you can still claim the mount.

Yokai Watch happened a second time through a series of strange events two years ago. XIV was in the middle of a 14-Hour Anniversary Stream and had Level-5's CEO on as a guest. Randomly he brought up that he still wanted to get the Whisper-a-Go-Go mount and that Yoshi should re-introduce the event to have more chances towards receiving the rewards. With amusement, Yoshi P complied and the event came back within only 3 days of planning.

Nothing since then. If we see it again I'll be surprised (but happy, truly). We haven't seen Shantotto or Iroha in quite a long time either, not since their second go-arounds. I think we may see Noct once more as a reprise, but that's about it for now.

But I digress. I still find it strange that Garo's mount achievements don't work in the same manner as the Yokai Watch ones. I would like my girlfriend to be able to actually see the rewards for the work she put forth. :(

Again, I get the "you should have check beforehands" "and the "that's because your lazy to do things by yourself" but, again, I stopped playing almost 6 months ago, was not sure I would come back and came back last week end...
In that situation I'd be honest and admitt I did not check the Lodestone during those 6 months considering I was not concerned by the patches...

It's not Square-Enix's decision to make as to whether it will be a permanent event or not. The collaboration was just that - a collaboration. It could only last for as long as the franchise owner would allow (not sure who owns Garo - TV Tokyo, maybe?).

Capcom was willing to allow the Monster Hunter crossover to be permanent, but it was all laid out in the contract. Since we've been told the Monster Hunter event is permanent, likely nothing short of a lawsuit will allow Capcom to force Squeenix to discontinue the event. I'd say the odds of the Rathalos fight being removed are very slim.

The Garo stuff we were told from the beginning that it was going to be temporary, and were given more than a year's advance notice when the decision was finally made to end it. It's a shame, though, that it wasn't made more clear which lingering items could still be obtained after the event, and how. No one should have to look up two-year-old version updates to learn the specifics of how these items are added to the Calamity Salvager.

I'm sure I read it somewhere in the Lodestone notices recently. Maybe the patch notes, maybe the specific announcement/reminders about the end of the collaboration.

That's not what they're talking about. It is fully acknowledged in this thread that people were aware when the collab was ending. The problem is, all they said in recent patch notes was that you'd be able to obtain previously gained items from the Calamity Salvager. The ONLY proven mention of having to have the achievements to be able to repurchase them from the Calamity Salvager that's been provided so far is 3.55a patch notes from over 2½ YEARS AGO. So, clearly people newer to the game would not fully understand what to expect when they didn't say anything in the RECENT patch notes about needing to have the achievements to repurchase items.

I know that, and that's what I was talking about.

I'm certain there was a recent post in the context of "Garo collaboration ending" that detailed what would've available from the calamity salvager and how, and to ensure you do not discard the other pieces.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it's what I remember reading.

I peeked through and all I saw was the one post from August, with a reminder from a post in April, that just said this:
"* Previously earned gear, mounts, and titles will remain usable after Patch 5.1.
* Gear you have previously earned can still be obtained from the Calamity Salvager after Patch 5.1.
* Attempting to complete unfinished achievements after the release of Patch 5.1 will not be possible as the achievements will no longer be obtainable."

And then the more recent one from October:
"It is also important to note that the Heroic Spirit Shield cannot be repurchased via Calamity salvagers even after unlocking the Echoes of the Golden Wolf achievement. Be warned that if this item is discarded, it will be lost forever, so please take extra care when handling this item. We recommend placing it in the glamour dresser for safe keeping.
* Updated Tuesday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. (PDT)

We are also looking into the possibility of adding another invisible shield in a future patch."

Granted I already knew how the achievements worked, which is why I did way more pvp than I ever wanted to in a solid week to try to get all the gear in time, buuut y'know. Maybe I missed an announcement somewhere else, but I can understand the mistake if anybody missed it.

Well, I also would have liked the gear to be there too without the achievement requirement since I didn’t have all of the jobs leveled and also could use the inventory space.

And I would have liked them to be more specific about the time frame early on rather than just saying 5.1. They could have been clearer in every Garo warning saying something like “5.1, which we currently expect to drop in late October, although this is just an estimate and may change as development progresses.”

Then again, I also would have liked immortal flames to play in a more organized manner on my data center - usually everyone just splits up, runs around randomly, ignores objectives and dies. If anyone tries to do callouts they are usually ignored by at least half of the alliance. :eek:

This is even more frustrating as I have the Makai Fists glamored to my current MNK weapons. They're still showing but since I never got the achievement I just can't get new ones and glamor them to anything else. Guess I'm just never changing my MNK weapons I guess.

Bring it baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

Make sure you also do an /isearch [partial item name] in game too, could be you just don't remember where you put the items.
