I'll probably be a little late with mine today, but...
A new day, a new patch, and maybe some new revelations! Let's do this!
Unukalhai finally has new dialogue. Nothing we don't already know, but at least he acknowledges events now.
I didn't find the events on the First terribly remarkable, but everything at the end...boy howdy.
Garlemald swiftly degenerating into civil war with Varis being gone was rather expected considering how chaotic things were in wake of his father's demise. I'm still a bit disappointed that he's actually gone, though. They're evidently conducting some pretty screwed-up experiments in the capital too, what with seemingly turning their people into bio-weapons (Previously I thought it was just Zenos' legion being involved in such).
I'm curious as to who this new mystery Ascian is or what his motives are, since it's obviously not Elidibus if Zenos could seemingly recognize the color of his soul but was not immediately dismissive of him. I have a very strong feeling that things are going to end up spiraling out of Elidibus' control if there are rogue Ascians acting outside of his interests; much less sharing critical information with someone as powerful and unpredictable as Zenos.
As for Ardbert seemingly being back...I'm smelling more Ascian foolery, especially with that remark about keeping the light of hope alive. Not mention he's the only one of the First's Warriors of Light whose body was unaccounted for.
Alright. I will speak of the MSQ, which is what I have a better grasp of.
What. The. Everloving. Fuck.
I mean, I already knew that they would blow up our minds at the very, very end, but waiting for a continuation of this is going to be hell. I am already biting my nails up to my elbows and it is only patch day. Kill me now.
I will have to go through the 5.1 story with my alts to fully get what is going on, but for now, the three main points.
1) All the soul talk. Very interesting, especially the events with Halric and the familiar. The Eulmore arc seemed a needed formality after Vauthry's fall, but perhaps it plays a larger role later. The main point is that they discussed something I theorized it would become a main theme: untempering.
2) Zenos and the Garlemald arc. Taking control of Estinien was great, even though he is OP as hell. The Arch Ultima thing was both creepy and interesting, being powered up by a poor Garlean corpse-or-whatever. Civil war in Garlemald, yay. And a mysterious white-robed figure. Could it be the first of the supposed "Warriors of Light" Elidibus seeks to pit against us?
3) Call me skeptical, but by no means do I believe that is "Ardbert" at the very end. The Nu Mou did say our souls are denser than others, and we all knew that he did rejoin with us. I would have to pay more attention to his words in subsequent playthroughs, but... well, the craziest theory got into my mind. With all this talk of souls latching into items that we begin the patch with... This is not exactly an item, however, but... when we confronted Hades, we threw Ardbert's made-of-Light axe right through him. So, if we shattered his soul, or whatever... what if the fragments of Hades's soul, or a fragment, took the shape of Ardbert because of it? That way it would be a third interpretation of the arc words "become the Warrior of Darkness". Tinfoil theory, aye, but for now... it seems the most logical.
about the final stingerthat's elidubus right? I mean it would fit
MSQ just up to the end of the dungeon. Irrelated to the story, is anyone else crashing constantly after this patch? It's making playing it a real pain.
I'm a big fan of Beq Lugg already. I want them to meet Matoya somehow, that'd be great to see.
On the other hand, I'm rather disappointed Thancred and Ryne seem to be taking a leave of absence from the MSQ for Eden. I had hoped that them going "let's not talk about this with the others" during Eden would be Square's way of letting them stay in the MSQ too. Ryne quickly became one of my favorite characters in the game over the course of 5.0 so I missed her a lot here, and hope she has larger roles in future patches instead of staying in the Empty the entire time.
Yeah, I'm almost certain that's Elidibus, having yoinked Ardbert's corpse from where it was buried. The rest of Ardbert's crew got re-animated by Vauthry into the Cardinal Virtues, but we didn't see Ardbert.
It would also fit with Elidibus's mutterings at the end of the 5.0 stinger, where he was going "the Warrior of Darkness should fall at the hands of a Warrior of Light", and Ardbert counts. We've also seen Elidibus make use of Zenos's abilities when he was inhabiting that body, so possessing Ardbert's corpse might also give him Ardbert's Blessing Of Light skills.
Not entirely sure what his mumblings about hope is all about, though. That's the one bit that would make me doubt it's really Elidibus.
(Adding the tyranny of ten characters.)
MSQ
Also disappointed about the lack of Thancred and Ryne in MSQ, but honestly since I expect Thancred to stay with Ryne in the First, it makes some degree of sense to me.
All the soul lore dump was vaguely interesting; weird choice of spooky glamour though Beq Lugg. Reversing Tempering because Sin Eaters are basically over-aspected/Tempered is weird, but okay—and glad there was some attempt at an explanation of the "voidsent" in the tank role quest (some kind of soul shenanigans). Halric mumbers "Nect... Al..." now... I wonder what that could be? Angelo being the name of the Leivelleur's dog (if you go back and talk to Alisaie in Amh Araeng later) is cute.
Eulmore arc was necessary and didn't feel too drawn out, but I'm not sold on Chai-Nuzz being a good mayor. At least he himself acknowledged that as well. (Also is he really an "entrepreneur" if he inherited his company? I digress...)
The ending though, oof. What is this new foe Gaius seeks out? Why did Arch-Ultima appear to have four Hearts of Sabik? I suspect that's the "auracite" they mentioned in the pop-up text but that's also been my pet theory for basically ever that the Heart was a 'black auracite.' So I feel a strong amount of bias toward it.
All of the Legions fighting for the Throne feels weird... unless we're supposed they're backing royal claimants again. Good to finally see the First and Third Legions, I guess? Also, my go-to-guess for our white-robed figure is another of the Warrior of Light/Darkness/PC's soul shards. Weird that we're just now getting reveals that Zenos can see the colour of folks' souls. Given that he's wearing white, I also suspect it's Elidibus' doing since he tends to send his servants in that colour, also given that the body is a diabolic coat (or later facet) I'm also betting on it being our Thirteenth reflection, who was also put in stasis with Unukalhai.
And our weary warrior? Definitely betting on Elidibus structuring an Ardbert suit. Beq Lugg's words do seem to indicate we absorbed Ardbert so that puts any doubt about that to rest. Anyways, Elidibus wearing the Ardbert suit makes another "Warrior of Light" to stir up trouble, and would likely give the WoLDPC some pause. (Let us not forget, while the actual player has the knowledge, our PC didn't know Zenos' soul lived on until this patch...I think, anyways)
Definitely thinking the next expansion is going to be Ilsabard and Garlean provinces now, but I also thought that would be 5.0 so... It just feels like a good set up and we're spending a lot of time in the First so it gets around the "we waited so long!" because the players might've, but the characters did not.
Pixie dailies
I didn't cheat and look ahead this time. I suspect our white pixie is the reincarnation of the Titania we killed though and we'll get backstory on them, I guess. Disappointed Ezel is a porxie and not nu mou, but I actually was rather fond of him even if he seems far removed from his namesake, lol.
NIER
Very excited to how they utilize the Collections feature going forward!!! I don't have a lot of other thoughts on it, other than the machine lifeform head that was locking the door is noticeable after the cutscene when blowing up the lock. (It's by the entrance/exit to Kholusia) However, after the raid, the head is gone. EMIL!
Character requirement, blah blah blah.
I am reluctant to say "Ardbert" in the end is Elidibus simply because he has already used the body-hijack trick once and it backfired spectacularly with Zenos. Of course, there is the possibility, but using twice the same plotline feels... weird. That would be two stingers for Elidibus in a row... then again, he got them too in Stormblood, so whatever.
There is something that bothered me as well: the conspicuous absence of talk about Emet-Selch. Aye, I know we got the EX trial and whatnot, but in previous patches we got at least mentions of our foes. You know, for having asked us to remember the Ancients, it would seem it has been quickly forgotten. That is what makes me think they are reserving it for bigger things in later patches.
For the MSQ :
I really really REALLY found it great -But the last mission of course ... Why SE are you doing it ???? making more questions about "who is that" and "What do you want?"...
I read the interview and I was expecting a lot more "actions" at least on last 2-4 missions, so after the dungeon I found it annoying till last one.
Well the arc with Beq Lugg was fine, I wonder though what we'll end with all this knowledge... I mean, yes we will probably find a way to save our friends but could get more use of it ? How about to "restore" an initial soul ? We could use that way to "put an end to Zenos without kill him". Just make him "mortal" once more and judge him for his crimes. I could find it more interesting than just kill him since he doesn't care to die.
For Zenos, I really wonder how he can use so much abilities of Ascians so easily. If he looks a lot more powerful than an Ascian, how could we beat him ? And if he really merge with Zodiark... what could we do but merge with Hydaelyn as well ?
For that new figure next to Zenos, I really hate when they are doing it, just throwing a new character who could be an Ascian rebel or something else. I'm so sad we have to wait a lot of time to know the next step.
About Garlemald, yes finally something happens and we will probably be involved to help (I hope at least, the palace was really nice, I wanted to see more! ). Still wondering what kind of new threat Gaius was talking about. And for him, I wish we'll see/meet him again soon to know more about it.
For the warrior at the end... well, who could it be... (again) warrior of light ? we'll see :/
One thought on the MSQ I have not seen brought up:
I know this is a very small personal peeve in light of the cliffhanger ending, but in regards to the Eulmore arc -- are we ever going to be permitted to set the record straight about Vauthry's father, and what was done to Vauthry and his mother? It's so frustrating smiling and nodding and agreeing with everyone about Vauthry now, knowing the truth, and it was especially off-putting listening to what a good Eulmore his father ran, which is contrary to his deal with Emet-Selch. He had at least twenty years to continue ruling Eulmore before Vauthry took the reins. The writers dropped such a bomb on us in the Immaculate cutscene, it's so weird they just ignore it entirely everywhere else and simplify to "Vauthry evil", although the guy never stood a chance. It doesn't feel heroic, I guess?
But then again the creep who sold Yotsuyu got off scot-free too, so welp
about the 24 man
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER, THEY NEED TO REPLICATE IT ON ALL THE OTHER RAIDS 111!!!!!!!!111!!!
MSQNieR RaidWell... that confirmed a lot of headcanons about the link between bodies and souls.
The one thing I find weird about the whole "untempering" thing is what do you do with a Primal that has no obvious aether element? Like oh... Lakshmi? As much as the process for "fixing" people with too much light is about decreasing souls that have too much of a certain aether-type, we've seen primals that don't have obvious aether elements to go on, and instead are more about the concept. Thordan comes to mind... as does Tuskiyomi... or Moggle Mog... or Bahamut, who is infamous for being the only example of a Primal that has "reversed" someone's tempering...
The part with Eulmore was predictable, but good. Tying up all the loose ends there is important.
Garlemald is where things get dicey. Black Rose has been taken care of, but apparently someone has been playing around with Ultima Weapon type stuff, which isn't good. As a side note, we've seen an entire line of Ultima Weapon-like machines come out of Allag that didn't make use of the Heart of Sabik for an aether source. I can easily see Garlemald adapting some of those ideas. I think the main issue is if there's more then one of those things or if they can be mass-produced. Since that would be a big problem for Eorzea.
Given what happened with Solus died, I'm not surprised we're seeing Legions fighting over Garlemald. Or rather... it's probably more their Legati who are fighting over Garlemald. And to make matters worse, they probably know the provinces would have a field day going against the Legions themselves if they thought it could work. Garlemald is a powder keg ready to blow and anyone who might be interested in saving it has better things to do.
Zenos... he's a loose canon. I fully expect him to go drag the plot off in a random direction just because he's incapable of being entertained. Still hate him. Really want him gone from the story. I view him more as a walking Diablos Ex Machina for the story team more then a character at this point. He's just so boring when it comes to character development. Wondering about who he's dealing with is just like... why bother? The story will tell us when it wants to and he'll try to break the world again and we'll try to mitigate what he's doing again. Yawn.
I am very curious what the item was that Gaius thought was in Garlemald and turned out not to be. If he's going after it, it's probably important for his vendetta against the Ascians. I smell a McGuffin on the horizon...
Ardbert showing up again... I don't think him trying to be the "Warrior of Light" will work quite like he (whoever it is) will. Light almost destroyed the 1st Shard. Even we go by the title of Warrior of Darkness there. I don't see people thinking he's a good guy if he goes by that title. If this was the Source, I think it would work. On the 1st Shard... not so much.
Spoilers for NieR: Automana in thisPixie Beast TribeFirst up... everything in this looks and sounds right. Remembering how certain bosses' attacks worked in Automana works just fine here. I keep getting hit by stuff because I think I have my dodge key, and I miss it terribly. A huge round of applause for SE for nailing the aesthetic of everything, whether that is the new machine designs or all the hacking effects.
The first three bosses were about what I expected. The last one... oh boy. Seeing what feels like 9S from the end of Route C meet up with a version of 2B that doesn't seem to have any emotional attachment towards him is a punch in the gut. And it makes how the story will go a lot more unpredictable which... it's Yoko Taro... seeing him play around with AUs of his own characters is fun. I am very interested why 2P is what looks like a reskin of 2B in this while 9S is not. And even more interesting... there's more androids out there...
The section after the 24-man raid of exploring the raid itself was a great idea. There's often been times where I've wanted to go back to dungeon/raid maps to leisurely explore them and having it built into the quest itself was a nice change of pace. And of course, it couldn't be a Yoko Taro story without a bunch of left-over data to find that fills in some gaps in what is going on while creating even more questions.
Finding out where the story goes from here is going to be fun. Also... which route did people take? And do you take 9S with you at the end of both routes? I went with Anogg and we did take 9S with us at the end. Thank goodness this will probably be on New Game+ eventually...Kai-SheerSeems like we'll be going into what Titania was like before they became a Lightwarden in this one (and maybe after?). Seeing how the pixies fun loving nature effects people outside of Il Mheg is neat. Especially since they seem to have a nice "everyone wins" approach to it. At least for now.I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like there's something lost in translation with this quest over all. Maybe because with the bonded, you've got the issue of people all but being forced to work at jobs they don't necessarily want to do... and then have what's pretty much a nightclub staffed by those people, but run by someone who doesn't have those restrictions. Like... I get the idea of what they're trying to do with this quest I think, but it feels like the issue of "do the people working here really want to work here" is being danced around. And that makes me... apprehensive...
I kinda hope it gets addressed at some point, since it's a little too obvious what tropes they are invoking with the Beehive without going too far over the line... And that kind of setting gets really messy in real life.
We don't see him in this patch, so he certainly would be able to pull off something like that. The only question is why Ardbert's body wasn't turned into a Cardinal Virtue by Vauthry.
Probably no deeper significance than that.Nectarine (the food Tesleen was getting for him) + Alisaie.
The third Legatus would be the most reasonable assumption.
A number of characters greater than or equal to ten
MSQ
I think Rocl's right (and I'd already suggested the same myself prior to 5.0) that at least one of the Scions is not coming back, and Thancred is probably the prime candidate. If the Shadowbringers story is wrapping up in 5.3, that's a patch too soon for the end of Eden, so either all of the Scions stick around in the First until 5.4 (and probably 5.5), or Thancred accepts he can never go home.
On a lighter note, I don't think I've laughed as much during a set of quests as in 5.1.
I was yelling at Urianger that white auracite was bad from the moment he suggested it, so I'm glad they seem to have shelved that plan.
The Garlean grafted into the Ultima protoype was pretty grim. There is some strange stuff going on there.
Post-MSQ Quest
I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING
ok after reading Hades' elegyit's Elidubus 100%, the ministrel even says to keep hope Alive just like what Ardbert said, or close to, I say that we'll get our final duty with the warrior of darkness in MSQ
Garleans: Eorzeans are dumb and uncivilized, not like us.
Also Garleans:-immediately start murdering each other as soon as Varis is revealed to be dead-
Characters characters characters ~
Hmm. I guess there is the possibility that at least one of the Scions gets stranded in the First. Thanks, G'raha. /sarcasm
I keep thinking about the Ardbert lookalike. If he were Elidibus he would be stupid as hell for using the same trick twice. Also, the Ardbert we see is in his Warrior of Darkness mode, armor dyed black and all, so he is not likely a Warrior of Light as Elidibus threatened. It intrigues me that he is labeled as "Wayward Warrior"... as if someone forsaken or who lost his way, maybe? Gah. I can see my Hades-soul-fragment theory happening but also it might be merely me being delusional. This is frustrating. I want to know. >/
A lot of thoughts right now, but Post-MSQ-Cutscene:
A friend of mine had the best theory concerning the mysterious new figure in Garlemald. Colour scheme is red and white, and when that certain grin came... my friend just threw out 'Asahi'. And I mean, concerning how they talk about them looking for a new master...
My thoughts on the MSQ's:
A slow burn, though it did a fair job at exploring the aftermath of Vauthry's defeat. It developed a bunch of the characters we met there further, too, which is a bonus. I enjoyed the dungeon, it wasn't at all what I expected but I loved the aesthetics. The Nou Mu is quirky but interesting. That there's a glimmer of hope for Halric and his brethren intrigues me, though I'm a little wary that Tempering is being proposed as being something that can be reversed. Do we really need to see Primals rendered less dangerous? I'd be fine with it if it carved the way for the Ascians being freed of Zodiark's grasp but if it's an excuse to let everything work out for the protagonists then I'll be disappointed.
The Garlemald scenes were interesting. Emperor Varis, as I suspected, was very much the glue holding Garlemald together. His hands were tied not only by the Ascians but the various different factions within Garlemald. It's exactly why Zenos was never suitable for the throne, as Varis proclaimed. It's also clear now that he's definitely dead - so barring him being brought back through shenanigans I'm hoping we'll see him again through flashbacks. Things are slowly moving into place to justify a Garlemald focused expansion at any rate.
As for the two figures at the end, I'm inclined to think the white-robed figure is a wayward servant of Elidibus, potentially one scorned by his schemes whereas 'Ardbert' is Elidibus. It could go in a completely different direction though.
I suspect 5.2 will introduce us to the players in the civil war.
I haven't had time for the Nier raid yet but for the msq
so I'm taking it pretty much as holy write that Ardbert is completely merged with our soul due to what Luq Beqq said about our soul being denser than the other scions.
I groaned with Alisaie naming that porxie Angelo. Also found it hilarious with her flicking the exarch in the forehead like she did. Hell a lot of it I found funny.
The stinger at the end... I dont think that's the first's Ardbert since he merged with us. (I've taken to calling him Albert). I'm more thinking that he may be one of the many WoL that Elidibus grabbed from the 13th before it became the void and is our soul from there, but that's a theory of mine.
Cant wait to try the Nier raid and the other stuff.
I'm not sure about that.Asahi died from being stabbed to death, so he doesn't have the means to become an Ascian, and also demonstrated no special powers in life. Furthermore, he'd have no reason to hide his identity from Zenos considering how obsessive and worshipful he was of him.
Characters blah blah blah—
Gods, please not Asahi. He got his miserable moment of so-called glory in Yotsuyu's arc and he got offed the way he deserved. Elidibus might be fond of reviving the dead but this is too much. Though I wonder if there might exist a fanatic cult of Hydaelyn worshippers out there. And the white-robed figure could be one. I know Y'shtola was joking when she said that about "our divine judgment" to Alisaie and G'raha, but... what if, somewhere, there is a sect who idolizes the Warrior of Light... maybe summoner of Hydaelyn? Ooh, that would be lit.
And I highly doubt that our soul fragments in the shards happen to be all lookalikes of Ardbert right down to the WAR armor. Either he is Elidibus or a confused fragment of Hades, but certainly not Ardbert and highly unlikely a Warrior of Light.
Also, where the fuck are the Emet clones and G'raha dropping the bomb of Allagan cloning techniques retaining psyche. I am eyeing you, 5.whatever.
5.1 MSQ thoughts
Cool dungeon.
I hope Angelo comes back with us to the Source!
I'm glad that they are tackling the logistical issues Eulmore is facing. Hopefully this isn't the last of the Eulmore storyline and it doesn't get sidelined by the incoming conflict with the other five aspects of the WoL. I'm sad that the reconstruction of Doma was sidelined, only seen in the Enclave turn ins, and Ala Mhigo was completely glossed over.
Why wasn't the echo flashback voiced?
WTH Gaius casually holds back Estinien's jump with one hand, and then blocks Gaius' attack from behind? Is this a buff from the resonant? Zenos demonstrated no ability to use shields when he was just a normie Garlean; he was just a really good weaponmaster.
Oh my gosh, he's a straight up Ascian now. Guess that explains how he manifested the shield. Also means he can straight up teleport to the moon and consume Zodiark now. Does that mean Zenos can reincarnate upon death too? If so, that means were potentially dealing with a semi-immortal, superpowered serial killer who will haunt the universe until the end of time. Well, I guess he already did reincarnate, but he wasn't reborn; he just possessed the body of a dead Resistance soldier. Gonna need Urianger's white auracite to perma kill him. Also, yay Fordola is also an Ascian now. Hopefully she comes back into the story!
Really cool fight scene choreography.
Gosh, that's creepy. Was the Empire kidnapping their own citizens - young Garlean boys - and hooking them up to Ultima Weapon replicas?
I'm guessing the new threat Gaius is dealing with are either the Ultima Weapon replicas, or the Heart of Sabik. Or something completely different. I think the Heart of Sabik is the only outstanding mcguffin left at this point, so it's either that or a new plot device.
Hm... the new white robed guy's jawline reminded me of Asahi's, but obviously it can't be him. Um... IDK who he is. Would be pretty interesting if he turned out to be a new character, though.
I'm guessing that the "Wayward Warrior" is one of the five remaining shards of the WoL. Hm... if the Ascians haven't been manipulating events on the other five remaining shards, then does that mean they are effectively the same timeline, as there was no change on those worlds that would cause them to diverge? Would that mean the five remaining shards will look and act like the "Wayard Warrior"? Or will they be completely different characters? Are the the other five shards of the WoL working together, or has Elidibus told them that they are the only one who can stop the WoD, and they are working independently of each other, unaware of the truth about themselves? Anyway, thanks Elidibus sending the remaining five shards of my soul to me! Saves me the trouble of having to go after them to recombine myself into a complete being.
On Haldric:
With the nectarine - he's asking to die, not hungry or missing Tesleen. Patients were given their favorite fruit mixed with poison at the end...
On Garelemald's new threat:
Surely this is Tartarus, currently in the hands of the 4th legion? It'd be weird for the same cutscene to introduce TWO previously unknown mechanical threats
On the 1st and 3rd legions:
FF1 and FF3 were the only two games in the series to take place after (not during) the Apocalypse. Maybe a good sign? Though the 1st and 3rd Umbral Eras were kicked off by the calamities of Amaurot and Allag, so maybe not.
On the White Auracite:
Instead, we're going to rely on Allagan technology. Especially G'raha's red Allagan Eye, mark of a descendant of Allagan royalty. i.e., Emet-Selch. This strikes me as an even worse idea.
On the final two Mysterious Figures:
Paired like this, it strikes me that we're looking at the work of Hydaelyn and Zodiark ... maybe even their avatars, but at least their servants. Either one of them approaching Zenos with a plan to 'hunt Zodiark' has very interesting implications...
On one of the Mysterious Figures:
Did Zenos recognize its soul? Could be a fragment of our own.
So we got our glimps at the first Warrior of Light who is going to hunt WoL/WoD and the Scions
With his appearance being Arbert's appearance
I can only assume he is also a fragment of our character because it seems as if all fragments of the Original Soul has that appearance except for our own character for unknown reasons.
I am still curious what his reason for fight Wol/WoD is though.
He speaks about bringing Hope back to the world but I have this feeling his reason for doing this maybe blind belief he is Good and WoL/WoD is Evil simply because WoL/WoD follows the Darkness or is being blamed for some kind of incident.
MSQ
Kind of underwhelming, though I expected that going in. Most of what needs to happen in the immediate future is dealing with the fallout from Shadowbringers, and most if not all of what we did was directly or indirectly related to that. Half was messing with souls in an effort to figure out how to ferry the Archons back home, the other half dealing with Eulmore's governmental issues in the wake of Vauthry's power vacuum.
The stuff on the Source was interesting in setting up future events, but now that the calamity from the First has been forestalled and there are no other preeminent crises demanding our attention MSQ stuff there is just denouement... though there are applications for some of it elsewhere.
YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse
Well, nothing at all was explained. At all. I expected this as well due to a recent interview from... somewhere... saying we wouldn't really get much information on what the deal is until the 5.3 (or even 5.5!) raid, so I didn't expect to get a whole lot of info.
I liked how the fights were easier than the Return to Ivalice fights though. Still had to pay attention to avoid dying, but not so bad that a few people not being perfectly on-point will wipe the raid. You can learn as you go with the fight, instead of needing a tutorial video or pre-battle explanation. I like those kinds of fights.
The gear looks nice, but I didn't see a single tank piece drop. I guess I can run it again till I get one... I did get the 2B cosplay set, but nothing else.
I'll be disappointed if 2P bites it so early. It feels like a waste to introduce her and kill her off so early into the quest, but I wouldn't put it past Yoko Taro...
I'll start on the pixie Beast Tribe quests tomorrow, eh...
MSQ
A nice addendum to Eulmore and good to know that the sin eater victims can possibly be saved. I am glad about having the pseudo-confirmation that Ardbert rejoined with us as well (am sort of confused why they weren't able to say the same thing about G'raha when he comes from a time after an 8th rejoining but eh).
It was nice to play out the events after the ShB cliffhanger, though who the new white-robed figure actually is and how they plan to get Zenos into contact with Zodiark is anyone's guess. The Ardbert look-a-like is probs one of the 'warriors of light' Elidibus was talking about... but I feel like they are just gonna be "lesser Ardbert" if they don't throw some curveballs.
Alliance Raid
I dont have much to say on the story so far, and will keep on musing until more concrete information becomes available in 5.3/5.5. However, I WILL say that the "collection" feature and (more specifically) the ability to revisit a version of the instanced raid area after the duty has been completed to gather more lore is something I actually love and have previously wanted for other instanced duty areas like dungeons and raids. I realise the dev team probably can't do that for every piece of group content, but it is gratifying to see at least ONE thing having such a feature, and hope they continue it with the rest of the raid series.
Pixies
So the pixies can make/influence dreams.... that's a somewhat chilling thought. An Lad really gives of the vibe of being reincarnated Lightwarden Titania, especially since they seem to react negatively to us. Maybe after being doused in light for so long, after being freed, they just thought it was too dark. Nonserious speculation, but we'll we see how it plays out over the next few weeks.
This is Nier after all and if you been following the series in the first game then prepare for some serious Emotional Truck hitting you much later in the storyline.
On that note: Anyone know if the Path you choose for Nier Storyline may affect the cutscenes and end results of current Nier Raid Storyline events?
Currently at the end of Nier Raid story you are presented with 2 Paths...
1) Trust 2P
2) Don't Trust 2P
Knowing Yoko Taro, this choice will certainly affect the Ending of the Nier Raid Storyline.
Alliance Raid:
I enjoyed it. I played Nier Automata so I knew what to expect and was not left disappointed. The 'Collection' tab for snippets of lore is a neat addition and I hope we see it used again in the future. I also like how we could explore the raid zone itself outside of the duty. More opportunities to do that in general would be great! I think it fit well into FFXIV's game world. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. I'll be crossing my fingers for a certain opera singer to show up as well as a certain two brothers.
It's a bit painful having to wait roughly six months for the next bit, though!
Well did the MSQ and my thoughts on it:
I did not like it as much as I did the 5.0 story. But lets go at it from the start to the end.
I am a bit sad that Ryne and Thancred are missing from the plot..especially Ryne who might never really be seen again after shadowbringer, so having her in more story would be great. Also since they will be with the raid which is going to be there until the end of Shadowbringers, we can at least say that either the problem to transport their souls will be stretched over all the patches or they somehow decline to go back which is bad for Thancred and Urianger since they are the ones that are there the longest. Also its kinda a confirmation that Thancred might not be able to stay there either.
I liked the dialogue between the exarch and Alisaie. Thanks for showing him that this could really hurt us even though he meant well. Hopefully he will stay alive.
I did not like Alisaie and her behavior at the boat. We get it SE, she admires the WoL...but why does she need to nearly always react that way when someone else admires us too? The jealous type is already there with Feo Ul we dont need Alisaie to turn into that too. You say that you can interpret it as her loving us or just admiring us but the way she acts really makes it hard to not see it just as love, which makes me a bit uncomfortable since she is still underage..please tone it down a bit with her. There was simply no need to act towards the exarch that way. (But I also dont understand why our character looked so surprised at this..shouldnt they already know by now that Graha wanted to go on adventures with us?
Anyway...I noticed that in this patch there is in general (at least in German) either an option to be 100% positive or be negative and rude..sad that there is less of a middle way in the dialogue options most of the time.
The dungeon was great. Interesting boss mechanics, great music and I loved the look of it. I guess that the knights and the king are kinda the Thordan and knights version of the First? Some of them looked quite a bit like them. Here I loved the interaction between Alisaie and Alphinaud..her teasing him about the ghost. More of that and less of her admiration...
The Nuo Mo was cute as ever even though I wished that we would have gotten more information on the souls..still nice to see that there might be ways to undo the tempering and good to see that Alisaie could help those people in Amh Areng. (But man did they give Haldric a way too deep voice for a kid..and he still quite creepy...)
Sadly now the part of the patches comes that I liked less..I know its necessary to give Eulmore a closure but I really wished we got more information about souls and that stuff instead of most of the patch being there and helping there. Not much to say there, I am still just a bit surprised how easy it is for these people to move on. Great in a way but also imo a bit unbelieveable. Also everyone of the rich people still wearing their rich stuff and still living in the rich part of the town while the rest still has to live in the harser parts...would have been nice to see a bit of a change there and I do wonder how they will solve that problem.
And then we are kinda already over with the patch, somehow the fist solution would not be the best (I wonder if an Ascian would lose their memories too if they are too long in the crystal?) and we go back and finally have the talk with Estinien.
I liked that sequence even though I have to say that I still dislike the look of Garlemald itself..so bleak..its interesting to see that our predicitions were wrong and Zenos simply does not take over the throne and anyone will probably believe that it was Gaius and Estinien that killed the king.
Still I am not quite happy that Zenos somehow even got some Ascian power..I mean if all it takes to get that is to get out of the body and back again in it....I just dont like how he really seems more and more to be the big bad that somehow now got cool abilities and that has now someone with him that wants to focus on taking down Zodiark...ugh please dont let this really end with him "eating" Zodiark...
Anyway Garlemald is now into civil war which will give Eorzea and the rest of the world a time to breath and maybe even serves as the fire for others to rebell against it once more.
The fight as Estinien was cool but also very creepy...if I remember it correctly that man in the machine had the garlean eye..they again used their own people for experiments..
And then the last scene...I am 100% that this is only Ardberts body with someone else in it. We got the confirmation that our soul shines brighter which means that we have Ardbert with us. But I remain skeptical on how great that fake guy will be...the first glimps of the WoD brought hype too yet their parts in the HW story was so small and disappointing for me that I kinda stay skeptical on how his role will be...
Anyway some positives from this but sadly it does not reach the same line as the 5.0 did for me.
